The Four Functions of Management

Description of Event

Describe a time when you were tasked with management, such as in the workplace, at home, or coordinating a party.I was planning a dinner party for father’s day consisting of five adults and seven children. I had to decide on a date if on father’s day or after. I used a traditional barbeque them for the party, food and decorations.

In the table below, categorize your actions during the event under each of the four functions of management.

Planning Organizing

The goal was to celebrate father’s day with a dinner and fun activities.

I had to organize the time of the party, what food to grill, where to sit, coordinate decorations and dinnerware, send out invites, have kids table and activities for outside and in to keep kids happy, and have my kids help with décor and party set up.

Leading Controlling

Leading the kids with them helping to decorate and set up for the party, getting streamers taped up, making cards setting tables and setting up outside games.

Checking to see if the kids are decorating and staying on goal, accomplishing tasks and if not redirecting them and acting on helping they set up.
