Anna L Q ZhengChina DBA programme

“I have thoroughly enjoyed thinking aboutmethodologies and the different angles to re-investigate current issues. This helps to pullme out of the current fire-fighting approach thatwe tried every day, re-look at the issues that weare facing, and approach them more holistically, with a broader view and deeper thought.

“Throughout the programme I have found thesupport from tutors very impressive. Whether aface-to-face discussion, or via email, all thetutors’ comments have helped to bring up newideas or new ways of thinking. These will notonly benefit the writing of my dissertation butalso contribute to my daily work as well. Theprogramme administrators also did a great job. They consider our difficulties in managing studywhile also working and they provide us all withthe support and understanding that they could. The resources and online facilities at NTU alsohelp. I enjoy the journey of learning a lot.

“I hope I can be as knowledgeable as mymentors and believe my learning won’t stop, even after I finish this programme.”

“I studied my CIPFA course as part of my traineeaccount post in the NHS. Close to sitting my finalexams I secured my Group Finance Manager roleat University Hospital Birmingham NHSFoundation Trust. Completing CIPFA was abonus as it specialises in the public sector, whereI was looking for a permanent post.

“Studying CIPFA means working four days aweek, going to University for one day andstudying in your own time. This is immenselydifficult and pressured and everyone feels likethrowing in the towel at times. The motivationand enthusiasm of the programme tutors wasone of the things that kept me going: they werealways willing to respond to emails and phonecalls and give me confidence when needed. They are also honest, which is something youneed when there is such a short amount of timeto study for an exam.

“I never realised when doing my course that theskills I was being taught really would be the skillsI needed in a qualified accountant’s post. Thelecturers’ insistence on sticking to this principleand really hammering home the point hasmeant that I am able to cope with thechallenges I now face on a daily basis.”
