From The Principal
Hello Parents/Guardians, it is hard to believe how quickly this Term has
gone. I wish all of our families a happy and safe holiday and remind you that
we begin Term 3 on Monday the 15th of July.
Attendance
As we are now in the cold and flu season, it is important for all
students to maximise their time at school in anticipation of
inevitable days off due to illness. We know that there is a direct
correlation between strong attendance and strong academic
performance. Every day absent from school leads to gaps in your
child’s education. Taking your child out of school early and
arriving late also contributes to gaps.
Change to Reflection Process
Currently, if a student has had a lunchtime behaviour reflection, their
teacher contacts that child’s parent/guardian that day to inform them of
the inappropriate behaviour. Starting Term 3, parents will be informed by
text message to their phone if their child has had a lunchtime reflection.
We are doing this because our teachers are still very busy working after
3.00pm and they may forget or not get the chance to contact
parents/guardians.
Pre-Moderation
This week we have our teachers with all the other small school primary
teachers in Gympie engaging in a pre-moderation process. This involves
teachers from the same year levels meeting to discuss and plan the English,
maths and HASS assessment tasks for term 3.
This process is highly beneficial as the conversation that occurs between
teachers helps to develop an understanding of what an A, B and C should look
like and it guarantees consistency in results. Meaning, for example, an ‘A’ at
Glenwood State School will look and sound similar to an ‘A’ at all other
schools in Gympie.
Taking photos at School
If you are taking photos of your child/children on our school grounds (e.g.
parade or sports day etc), please do not post those photos on social media if
they contain images of other students/children. Thank you for your
understanding.

Travel Safe: When you’re on the bus, store your bag correctly. Sit in your seat with your
seatbelt on and talk quietly to your friends. Help your bus driver by acting safely on the bus.
Remember Blind Spots: When you get off the bus stop on the footpath, wait for the bus to
move away, check the road is all clear in both directions, then cross if you need to.
Congratulations to our two students who received the ‘Best Bus Behaviour’ award for last week. These two
students received a certificate and a $5 Tuckshop voucher each. Well done for being safe on the bus!

Yr 2-3 News – Ms Heathcote Term two is now at an end, which means we are half way through the year. I am very proud of the effort that

Year 3-4 News – Ms Jeannie Brookhouse
Hi from Grade 3/4.
The class have had a busy and exciting term. Our students are amazing! We hope everyone has a happy and
safe holiday and return refreshed for term three.
Our class YCDI discussion this week was on the importance of being socially responsible and valuing
honesty and helping others. Students worked with enthusiasm to complete their assessments and enjoyed
using their creative skills in the practical tasks for this term.
They created their own packaging for a cereal box using persuasive elements. Students created
characters, settings and a name for their cereal box, wrote a persuasive speech, and made presentation to
the class to persuade us that their cereal was the best.
Students have worked enthusiastically to complete their design challenge in Technology. They repurposed
wool and fabric and created a useful item. They made mini-blankets, pillows and scarves for themselves
and others by weaving wool and sewing fabric.
Worm Farm News.
The gardening group have been busy feeding and checking the worm farms. They have watched the garden
grow and produce and enjoyed eating fresh corn on the cobb, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes and cabbage.
Lemons are for sale for 50 cents each - please enquire at the grade 3/4 classroom.
Year 5/6 News – Mrs Michelle Hanson and Ms Peta Milne
And another term bites the dust! Wow, who can believe we are already half way through the year? Year
5/6 students have had a stellar term 2. A huge congratulations goes out to all students for their efforts
in completing class activities and assessment tasks. We look forward to an equally productive term 3.
Have a safe and relaxing winter break!
