At the age of 94, Tom Blevins is still going strong as the owner of his own ap-pliance parts business.

“I sell washer, dryer and electric range parts most-ly,” said Blevins, the owner of Tom Blevins Appliance Parts Place.

Blevins, whose 95th birthday will be next Febru-ary, says he initially opened his store about 35 years ago. He no longer services appli-ances, however.

Blevins doesn’t specialize in certain brand name parts. “I carry a pretty good line of parts,” he remarked.

He emphasizes that he sells parts for washers, dry-ers and ranges for Sears, Whirlpool and other brands. “I carry a good line of parts for them,” he said.

Blevins operates his busi-ness with a simple goal in mind. “I want to just be busy,” he said. “I don’t care too much about what I do or what I don’t do. What I’ve got is just about all I can do. All I need is just a few cus-tomers. I just like to have something to do.”

Blevins says he has low-ered his prices on some of the parts.

Blevins enjoys interacting with his customers. “They come by and call me,” he said.

Although he is less than six years away from his 100th birthday, Blevins en-joys operating his business and says he has no plans to retire.

ented and motivated to do a good job for his custom-ers. “I enjoy working, and I enjoy the outcome of a car-pet that is dirty when you

start and clean when you get through,” Holder remarked.

“Tile floors that are in rough shape, you strip them, put wax on them, buff them and they turn out look-ing good. I like the finished

product, and I enjoy work-ing.”

Holder, who is available for residential, commercial and industrial jobs, says the business was named Hold-er’s Floor Care “because I care about your floors just like I would my floor.”

Many of Holder’s clients are generated from word-of-mouth advertising.

The Elizabethton Star Business Review, Holder notes, has also helped his business. “The Business Re-view keeps my name and my picture in front of the public, and they know I’m still in business and still working,” he said. “So therefore, I get calls because of that.”
