About LeMoyne‐Owen College 

LeMoyne‐Owen College is a four‐year

Mrs. Angela McDowell-Baines is a proud Memphis native who has been married to her high school sweetheart for 26 years. She is a mother to three beautiful adult children and grandmother to six ador-able grandchildren. Once her children became more independent in their youth, Angela’s dream to earn her college degree was reignited and in 2010, Angela earned a Bachelors of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Lemoyne Owen College; gradu-ating Cum Laude. To that achievement she adds an induction into the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, Who’s Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges and she was Vice President of the Business Students Association.

Her professional achievements originated from serving over 15 years as a Business Coordinator and in 2013, Angela put her busi-ness degree to further use and helped her husband build Five Star Iron Works LLC.; a successful ornamental metal manufacturing and installation company. Later, she acquired the specific knowledge necessary to earn her the titles of Certified Tax Professional and Li-censed Insurance Producer. These designations, combined with an entrepreneurial spirit, have helped to catapult her into the financial industry as the independent business owner of ALife Financial Ser-vices LLC.

As an avid life-long learner, Angela seeks to discover and apply positive principles to every area of her life and it is her purpose to edify and inspire personal and professional advancement in others. She passionately approaches life and work in accordance with the goal of promoting understanding, collab-oration and continual growth. Her accomplishments are attributed to her trust in God, family support, her associations with the National Association of Professional Women, The Renaissance Center Small Business Association, as well as, many associates and community organizations in her network.

“Navigating Beyond Neglect" is intended to bring awareness to the affects of the neglect of our divine spirit. In our purest state we are more in tune with our Creator’s spirit within us; however as life challenges oc‐cur, some of us tend to lose sight of our purpose and our own divine inner spirit which keeps us connected to an Infi‐nite Source of love, guidance and protection. In this book I have simply put into writing what was proven practice for me to rediscover my spiritual navigation system which helped me to change the tra‐jectory of my life. This story will inspire individuals to over‐come barriers and life chal‐lenges while sustaining the core essentials of their individ‐uality, integrity and confi‐dence.

About the Author 

The author, Mrs. Tammie Porter, is an alum and adjunct faculty member of LeMoyne‐Owen College Division of Business and Economic Development who in‐structs in business curriculum for the Accelerated Studies for Adults and Profes‐sionals program (ASAP).  She is happily married with two children, one grand‐daughter  and her dog, Rockie.  Mrs. Porter has been writing for 16 years, starting initially with children's books that build self‐esteem and ventured into drama.  She was raised with natural storytellers and those stories ignited an interest in writing books and continues to be a vessel for these stories.

 Born and raised in Memphis, TN, Melanie Anderson discovered her love for acting at a young age, but did not pursue her dreams right away. Instead, she was a teen mom at the age of sixteen. Melanie was also diag-nosed with Lupus in 2011. Initially, she thought this was her death sentence but eventually realized Lupus saved her! Despite all her challenges, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration on May 12, 2012 at LeMoyne-Owen College. Melanie began to think life is too short , it’s was time to follow her dreams of becoming an actress! Melanie stepped out on faith, left her corporate job of 10 years and relocated to Atlanta.

Today, Melanie is an actress, inspirational speaker, best-selling author, and entrepreneur. Melanie has had the pleasure of studying with Greg Alan Williams, Tasha Smith, Terri J Vaughn and has continued studying her craft with Taraji P. Henson’s personal acting coach Jemal McNeil.

Melanie has used her knowledge of the industry to create Actors Resource 101. This e-course is designed to walk the aspiring actor through the basic steps of getting started. It is packed with tons of reputable resources saving the actors time and money avoiding industry scams.

Melanie is passionate about sharing her life experiences to inspire and encourage other women and teenag-ers. It's never too late to follow your dreams. With God ALL things are possible!
