Many do not understand that at the age of 35 or above we are considered to be too old and often too expensive for the labour market.The fortunate ones that are blessed to have a job are paying a high price in terms of the quality of their life. We almost have to pay to be able to work. Hundreds of thousands of people, at all levels of the system, are ‘living’ exhausting days of work. Others are dealing with a lot of stress. The hierarchy in systems often leads to a high pressure from superiors to deliver (over) demanding results, from shareholders to line-bosses. Others arrive at our jobs with the constant fear whether we might be the next ones to be fired. Because of this reality, many, many of us are discon-nected from ourselves, from our relations with others, from quality time with our part-ners and families. Reactions often heard are: “I am busy, busy, busy”, “I don´t have time”, “I have to work”, “I am struggling”, a lot of us gave up, surrendered and got used to their discomfort, saying e.g.: “I have to accept this situation because of my family, my mortgage, I don’t have any other options”. For hundreds of thousands this has become their every day reality.

If we reflect a moment about the lifestyle we would like to have in order to have time with the family, to travel, to give the best educa-tion in the best universities for our children many of us realize that our desires can´t be filled in because of our actual economic situation.If we ask ourselves: Do we trust in the futu-re? Is our job giving us the lifestyle we long for? Life is getting more and more expensive. Will our current job give our family and us the freedom and the security for the years to come? Does it give us the opportunity to grow our income, as we need it?These are questions we need to ask oursel-ves every day. For example, the job security we know from the past, the savings for our pensions and the social security are not self-evident anymore let alone guaranteed. And our personal savings aren´t always enough. Our every day salary is being spent in invoices and expenses and like many people, to the point where we may have nothing left to save. But life is becoming every year more expensive. In the years to come we will need more and more money only to main-tain our current lifestyle. What will happen if we lose our source of income? This is an actual situation for a lot of people. Statistics

show that by the time we retire we will need to double the amount of our current salary only to be able to survive every day life. The enjoyable retirement we have envisioned for ourselves and our beloved ones might not be possible. Perhaps when we now think about the moment of our retirement, we see ourselves struggling with the income we will be receiving.Nowadays hundreds of thousands of people are disappointed with the actual, unjust sa-lary their job offers them. Many of us are sen-ding our curriculum vitae around, hoping for better opportunities, waiting for an answer that will probably never arrive. Others are trying to understand how it is possible that we are unemployed although the system considers us to be “skilled peo-ple”? Some are wondering whether it was worth it to invest many years in university to end up in low paid jobs or in something completely different than what we studied for; just because there was no possibility in the area of our profession. Others, also applying for jobs, are amazed by the answer we get from the system: “you are too high skilled”. This is even harder to understand, because the system always encouraged us to study more, to invest more money, and make

Si nos paramos a pensar por un momento el estilo de vida que a cada uno nos gustaría tener para poder tener tiempo de disfrutar con la familia, para poder viajar, para poder proporcionar la mejor formación universitaria a nuestros hijos, nos damos cuenta de que nuestros anhelos no corresponden con nues-tra situación económica del momento.Si nos preguntáramos ¿Confiamos en el futu-ro? ¿El trabajo que realizamos actualmente nos permite el estilo de vida que nos gus-taría tener? El nivel de vida cada día es mas caro, pero ¿la realidad actual y la del futuro nos proveerá de la libertad y de la seguri-dad que nuestra familia y nosotros necesi-taremos en los próximos años? ¿Tendremos la oportunidad de crecer y ganar mas de lo que estamos generando ahora?

Estas son preguntas que deberíamos hacer-nos todos los días. La seguridad de las pen-siones, beneficios de jubilación y la seguridad social ya no son tan seguros como antes y no hay capacidad de ahorro. Normalmente las facturas se comen el sueldo y ya no queda casi nada. En los próximos años necesitare-mos más y más dinero solo para mantener el estilo de vida que tenemos actualmente. ¿Qué pasaría si la fuente de ingreso actual

faltara? Según las estadísticas, para cuan-do nos retiremos se necesitará el doble del ingreso actual únicamente para poder sobrevivir. Actualmente, cientos de miles de profesio-nales viven en una permanente e injusta desilusión con el ingreso que les generan sus profesiones.Muchos nos hemos pasado el tiempo repar-tiendo nuestro curriculum vitae, esperando una respuesta que posiblemente nunca llegará. Otros, no encontramos respuesta a la constante pregunta en nuestros mentes de: ¿por qué estamos desempleados si somos considerados por el sistema como “mano de obra calificada”? Hoy por hoy, un gran número de personas nos cuestionamos si valió la pena haber invertido tantos años de universidad para terminar en trabajos mal pagados o haciendo algo completamente diferente a lo que nos formamos profesional-mente; sencillamente porque fue imposible encontrar una opción que tenga que ver con nuestras profesiones. Otros no podemos comprender la irónica respuesta del sistema: “Estás sobre calificado”. Cuando precisamente ese fue el motivo por el que estudiamos más, invertimos más y nos esforzamos, para tener una supuesta ventaja competitiva que luego

se convirtió en una injusta desventaja social. Hoy no podemos entender porque a la edad de 35 años o más ya somos considerados demasiado viejos para ser tomados en cuenta para un empleo. Algunos afortunados cuen-tan con la suerte de tener un empleo, pero a un precio muy alto en términos de calidad de vida. Casi nos toca pagar para poder trabajar. Otros nos hemos visto sometidos a presiones y malos tratos por parte de nuestros superio-res. Otros tantos hemos llegado al trabajo con la angustia de no ser nosotros los próximos despedidos. Esta realidad ha hecho que el hombre se des-conecte de sí mismo, de su relación con sus semejantes, de su calidad de vida conyugal y familiar. Frases como “no tengo tiempo”, “estoy trabajando”, “aquí… en la lucha”, “pero con esta situación”; han ido creando una es-pecie de resignación en el poderoso espíritu humano. Para cientos de miles, tiene que ser así, “porque no nos queda otra”.

ESPAÑOLComo la gran mayoría me forme como profesional y ejercí en ella durante 12 años de mi vida. Fueron años que se convirtieron en largas rutinas de trabajo. Aunque gene-raba buenos ingresos, me ocurrió lo que ocurre a un gran numero de profesionales; termine siendo esclavo de mi profesión y de mi negocio. Si no trabajaba, no generaba mas economía. I worked for more than 10 years as a consultant in an HR department. My profession cost me my time, my energy and even my health.
