Zone Chair Reports

August is the last full month of the Year 2019

I am inspired by the energy of the new Lion Year July

2019 to June 2020. I look forward to months of volun-

teer work, sharing ideas with other Lions Clubs, and

the community activities that Lions participate in. This

is another round for us to finish projects, and plan for

brighter future endeavors.

When we look at our inner self, we see creativity and

dedication to achieve our goals. Go out to your com-

munities, and search for potential new members by us-

ing our community assessment needs. Let us continue

to nurture our current members who supports our ac-

tivities financially or giving time and effort to our pro-

jects. What do you picture in the coming months? Is it

finding folks like your fellow Lions who are dedicated

to serving others and are hardworking for the sake of

their community? Well, visitations to other organiza-

tions may bring new ideas and new members. We are

always looking for those folks who are potential mem-

bers, invite them to a meeting,

get them to assist your volunteer

activities. They may see the re-

wards of giving back and will be

ready to join your club.

While we are continuing to be

Lion members, let us take the

opportunities to attend seminars

to add adventure and spice to our minds. Give a try to

be an Officer of your Club and see how you would be a

great leader and contribute to this special group of

folks, the LIONS.

It is said that in the early Roman calendar, August was

the sixth month, and only had 30 days under Augustus

Caesar, the First Emperor of the Roman Empire. Then

an extra day was added by Emperor Julius Caesar to

equal the number of days in July.

LCIF Global Foundation. Local Impact.

Our challenges are great. Our mission is pure, our hands and hearts are ready. Together, we will be able to serve more than 200 million people a year by 2021.

Zone B-5 Lion John LeMieux, Zone Chair

If you are reading these words,

stop what you are doing and go

to MyLion on your PC, or if you

have a smart phone, be sure you

have the MyLion app. I ask for

two incredibly big reasons. The

first is simple, anyone can easily

create an activity! Why is that

important? All your neighboring

clubs are instantly aware of your functions, and as a

result, may bring in more attendees and interested vol-

unteers! Obviously this is a great advantage when una-

ble to provide fliers through secretaries or announce-

ments at visitations by delivering this easy increase in

visibility. Secondly, one of the greatest side effects of

activity creation is that nearly half of the Secretary's

workload has been completed in regards to reporting

activities. Secretaries have less work to perform when

submitting reports when this front end of information

has already been provided to them - and in turn makes

their inquiries of members lighter on a monthly basis

too. What a tremendous all around advantage this tool

can be! PLEASE start using it today, this means YOU!

Are you still intimidated? Don't be, here is a cheat sheet

to help you! Since this tool now makes a separate calen-

dar redundant, I will no longer be facilitating the zone

calendar. So be a good neighbor - create activities to

keep more than your own clubs members informed,

and find out how you can support or volunteer with

other clubs by using MyLion right now. Also, it's a new

year, be sure to check out these resources that will help

you throughout the new year. Thank you!

Zone B-4 Lion Arnold Tew, Zone Chair

As the new Zone Chair for B4, I’m just learning about my job. But I’m

looking forward to visiting each of the clubs in the Zone this fall. I

hope your Lions year is a successful one of service. If I can help in any

way, please let me know at [email protected].

Zone B-2 Lion Mel Fernandez, Zone Chair As the appointed Zone B2 Chairman for Lions Year 2019-20120, I look forward in assisting the clubs in the zone for greater exposure and active participation in the district.

All clubs in the zone are participating in increasing member-ship and collection of eyeglasses and hearing aids.

Following are the activities of the clubs in Zone B2.

A major change for Zone B-1 is

that the District B cabinet official-

ly approved the Merger of Everett

South and Everett North into a

new club—Everett South. Most

of the members from Everett

North have moved into Everett

South as a result of this merger.

The two clubs had already combined forces and were

meeting together at Patty’s Eggnest Chuckwagon Inn

once a month on Thursday nights, so this change will be

more of a formal fix rather than something new.

Zone B-1 will have our first Zone meeting on Septem-

ber 9, 2019 at the Collector’s Choice Restaurant in

Snohomish at 5:30 pm. If you’d like to attend our Zone

Meeting, then just RSVP me ([email protected]).

This zone meeting’s planned focus will be about Lions

“service”. We’ll be working thru service issues and how

they affect our 4 clubs. Much of the continuing prob-

lem is having enough “active” members to participate in

the planning and staging of club events and having our

members become familiar using MyLion.

On the 9th, we’ll also be talking about involving non-

Lion groups and community members in our events.

And, the importance of getting the word out well before

the date of the event, so other nearby Lions in the re-

gion can volunteer and help every club put on a success-

ful event or activity.

Message from Membership: In an earlier article in the Busy B, I suggested, as a Project, as a Community Outreach, and as a chance

to spread the word about Lions, and as a Membership opportunity, a program called ACTIVE SHOOTER.

There are opportunities, and resources your club can use……for FREE! These opportunities can be pro-

vided by Law enforcement, Fire Department and many other resources.

My wife and I attended an Active Shooter program, while traveling, presented by Kona Hawaii Lions

and Elks. It was Amazing and Informative. You now can’t watch the news without hearing about a

shooting, so I have been working with the King County Sherriff’s office for several months to replicate

that program here in Renton. I have been working with Lions, Maple Valley Food Bank, and several

churches in the Renton community to attend and promote this program. After many months of organiz-

ing, the project has finally been scheduled to be presented by a trained Sherriff officer on September 17,

and we have near 50 people to attend. It’s sad that we find ourselves needing this training and infor-

mation, but it might save a life one day. This program is made possible by our Fairwood Lions Club.

I am excited for this opportunity and this upcoming presentation. Keep an eye out for the outcome in a

future newsletter! I invite you and your clubs to do an Outreach program for your community too.
