VISION AND MISSION

Briony

Butterflywise coaching is basically touching the essence of the child, translating it into a lan-guage that the child can understand and using many different forms of expression.

You coach the child in a playful way so they can discover, give shape to, and radiate their deepest dreams.

If we use our entire butterfly brain it would be like the wings of a butterfly that spread out and fly away. That way these chil-dren can bring their dreams into the world and make it a better place.

The essence of the butterflywise schooling is to stimulate each child so they can develop as complete possible. They are then capable of finding rest within and from this inner peace they find the art of reinventing and creating their ideas and dreams in balance with the environment.

Within the Butterflywise education system we co-create a new vision of education as a lifelong natural, powerful and playful learning process.

children are the seeds of the future. They carry inside the keys and talents indispensable to the creation of a new society, a new standard of living. They carry within them the possibility to push humanity into a new evolutionary process. Therefore we need to reconsider• how we look at children,• how we look at the learning process,• how we look at life in total.

Why do so many children have problems in schools and do they have learning disorders & behaviour problems? The mainstream education desperately tries to fit children with new skills and talents into an old school system. But if we give them the space to develop their talents and ex-press these, they will come up with new solutions and new creations which we as adult even cannot imagine.

Furthermore, she is also the inspirational force of the Child Wise Network, the Fairy School and the Fairy Theatre, and organises various Child Wise events on a yearly basis, such as the Fairy Festival, the Child Wise Fair, and the Child Wise Conference. Some of the projects are duplicated in Colom-bia and Spain. As artist, dancer, singer and writer of children’s songs and fairy tales, she performed during the Fairy Theatre Projects in some 40 Flemish primary schools. The educational project of the Butterflywise school has its origins in the various events and fairy project.

Briony Vanden Bussche is managing director of the Butterflywise school and is a social entrepreneur. She is a creative Jack-of-all-trades, and has obtained a Masters in Applied Economi-cal Science. the fairy symbolises the mystical child which is present in everyone. Chil-dren are spontaneous, authentic and full of joy. They are in balance with the natural elements inside and in balance with the natural elements in the out-side world. The fairy symbol connects you with your inner dream and believes that all inner dreams can come true.

Why is it that adults do not always carry this purity? It is often be-cause as children they were not seen and treated in their authenticity. Their parents had their own needs and their school wanted them to get good grades. So after a while the connection with their inner dreams was lost. Then someone else’s dreams were being lived and not their own dream. As an adult you may always feel like there is something missing in your life, you do not know why you are here and why you are actually doing what you do. If you really want to feel fulfilled and happy, you must make contact with your inner dreams and realise them.

In the fairy school we learn to make magic with the power of the four elements of nature: earth, water, air and fire. We discover the qualities of the different natural elements together with the help of the earth elves, the water fairies, the fire elves and the fairies of the air.

By stimulating artistic development, the child maintains his/her inborn predisposition to imme-diately translate ideas into action; to express as in a natural flow what lives inside the thoughts and emotions; and to give it a face, a place, a colour, a form, a name. Every child is born an artist.

Every child creates, invents, dreams. They are the experts of creation and transformation. They possess these natural gifts, though they often lose them by the age of adolescence, at the very time that these skills can save their mood and channel all the awaking life-force energy into positive crea-tions, expressing and making tangible what lies treasured within them.

The young students, employees, inventors, manag-ers and leaders of tomorrow require the facilities of a flexible mind, a deeper human comprehension, intuitive skills, creative entrepreneurship, and positive forces to elevate the world we live in.

By maintaining and stimulating the artistic process, where a critical point of view can be expressed, but most of all the value of the process itself is kept in mind, the student is given the tools to es-tablish, comprehend, nurture and heal him/herself.

WhAT IS A BuTTErFlYWISE SChool?

A Butterflywise school is a powerful learning environment where everyone can develop in a holis-tic way and stimulate multiple intelligences in a playful manner. Within this school, everyone is involved and is provided with the space to discover, give shape to, and radiate their deepest dreams in a child-wise and “Edu-creative” way.

Butterflywise education is a movement that unites, develops, and offers unique methods, that stimulate children, youngsters, parents, tutors and teach-ers in a gentle way towards finding their individuality and authenticity. It is flexible and adapts itself to every specific social, cultural, economic and ecological context. The ultimate goal is to stimulate mankind into creative enterprise in balance with themselves (authenticity) and in balance with the environment (man-society, animals, and nature)

Mind power and dream creation: Children learn that every word and intention creates a reality and that they can use this creative power to realise their dreams.

Butterfly Brain Education: we train the brain to be happy and more in balance, and we support the learn-ing skills by using specifically designed exercises and “quick-learning tools.” our present-day education system is almost completely focused on learning through our daily conscious mind with short-term memory capacity. This means that we only utilise a fraction of our total brain capacity. In Japan and various other countries this brain education, combined with dream-power development, has been applied very successfully for over 50 years, and often leads to “ingenious cognitive capabilities”.

“Educreation”: is an educational method that is alive. It stimulates creativity and encourages a real exchange between teacher and student. The lead is the connection of the child with him/herself, other people and the world. The starting point is function development. The possibili-ties of daily life are the educational tools. (“Educreation” by Marijke Sluyter, the inspiration behind and chief of, the magazine “Educare” in the Netherlands.)

The evaluation system: we observe by monitoring the student/child so that we can follow the evolution of his or her skills and personal development. We pay attention to learning with joy and self-reflection and firmly believe in stress-free education. Every week the children fill in their talent-trees and make their own plans for the next period. After this period they evaluate the progress with their coach. All talents are positioned in the rainbow talent plan, a system designed to evaluate the student as a human being. This evaluation system stimulates the student to develop increased conscienceness in every aspect of their lives. An essential point is that they only can move forwards. There is no negativity: you have either developed a tal-ent, or you haven’t developed it yet. The more children are conscious of their talents, the more authenticity they develop. A clear and practical view of one’s talents and one’s expression in the world is essential for one’s success in life.

Multiple intelligence: this concept differentiates intel-ligence according to specific (primarily sensory) “modali-ties”, rather than seeing it as being dominated by a single general ability.(cf. howard Gardner and Pedagooogia3000, Noemi Pay-mal)

BUTTERFLYWISEWhat makes the difference?

Playfulness and fantasy: is a very important key to learning. When a child is born it is playful, ready, and ea-ger to learn. Children should similarly be supported and coached in a playful manner, and not feel that learning is a burden, or is a chore to do. learning and discovering the world is fun, and is your basic human right.

The talentclass: students can go to the talentclass when they have just arrived at the school and want to orient themselves. It is also a space where they can discover who they are and what talents they possess; or also to be allowed privacy for a moment if they need time for a personal process.

Butterflywise education for parents and teachers: in order to fulfil your potential, it is vitally important to have a supportive environment. The people who have the biggest influence on a child are its parents and teachers, and therefore they need to be very open-minded to the child’s individual needs.

Autodidactic skills development: children need to feel they have the right to follow their own rhythm, make their own plans and choose their own organic structure to base their learning on.

BUTTERFLYWISEWhat makes the difference?

Curriculum and creative enterprise: is all about de-veloping skills based on the passion and talents of the child/student, and coaching the student to put these talents into action (creative enterprise). As the market is changing rapidly the jobs related to that market are changing rapidly as well. As a consequence, you can’t study for a job that doesn’t yet exist at this moment. The digital revolution gives us a major opportunity to pay more attention to personal development and leader-ship at a young age. Gaining and spreading knowledge has become easier by way of the Internet. Accordingly, a teacher can be more of a coach these days, and show direction to a student. The students learns various creative enterprise skills and are coached on how to realise their passion and dreams. Organic class structure: the norm for creating a class group is not based on the age of the children, but on their skills, talents and interests. It is proven to work better for highly gifted children, and children with, e.g. ADhD, autism, and dyslexic disorders.

The learning system: We focus our attention on leader-ship and high performance; we divide the basic reading and writing skills and mathematics into specific modules. We put other skills into projects in order to create a real-life study experience and an active learning system.

BUTTERFLYWISEWhat makes the difference?

Digital learning platform: learning with games, smart-boards, tablets and a virtual learning experience is a fun and efficient learning method. There’s no need for exams, because you can measure the learning process and you can adjust it any time as and when needed.

Sustainable resources and environment: without Mother Nature there would be no economy, no comfort, no air to breathe, no water to drink, and no food to eat. Actually no life. respect for nature and her organic struc-ture is not only a guiding principle, but also a fundamen-tal element of our school system.

Health and sports: fresh, clean and energised water is important as well as organic vegetables and fruit, and sugar-free food in order to properly take care of the brain and the body. relaxation techniques, like yoga and meditation are integrated into the daily school structure.
