1. Use the bull eye level to check the direction of the slope. Using a chalk, mark the direction of the slope on the ground with an arrow.

Correct Use of PH5 Slope Compensation Device (0 to 5%)

2. Use the digital level to check the gradient of the slope, and clearly mark the gradient % on the substrate or floor.

3. Rotate the head of the pedestal (1), to match the gradient of the slope. The gradient to be set is visible in the window (2). The direction of the slope is giving by arrows (3) for each value of the gradient.

The spacer tabs (4) are made so they can freely rotate.

4. Set the gradient by rotating the head of the PH5 slope corrector. Here, example of 3% is shown.

Correct Use of PH5 Slope Compensation Device

5. Place the pedestal under the corner of the tile, with the

direction of the arrow pointing into the direction of the slope.

6. The tiles should then be flat, 0% level in all directions.

DPH0 to DPH3 : the PH5 is clipped on top of pedestal DPH4 & DPH5 : PH5 is standard integrated in head of pedestal DPH0 to DPH3

In general, one shim leveller per pedestal. Additional shim levellers are used extra to compensate for different thicknesses of the tiles.

Double function : shock absorber and compensation for different thicknesses of the tiles!

Buzon Shim Levellers : E10 (1 mm) & E20 (2 mm)

To create smooth and level surface on top of decking, compensating for minor

differences in thickness of the tiles

Extra shims are placed under the already

placed shim

In order to adjust the height of the pedestal, the DPH5 pedestal is equipped with a ring between the HEAD and the BASE.

Before starting, the ring should be ALWAYS be positioned in the center BETWEEN head and base, meaning, the same number of rings should be visible above the ring, as below the ring.

Turn the ring for easy and quick height adjustment

No need to switch base or head, ONLY the ring to adjust height

23

From STARTING POINT, start with first line

1) Use guiding rope/wire to allow proper alignment of the tiles

2) Use the long aluminium profile (3 to 4 m) to easily adjust the height of the pedestals.

Placing the long profile on the first pedestal, it will allow easy and fast presetting of the

first line of pedestals

‘SP’ = Starting Point

Cuttings & smaller tiles (Optimal Solution – Use of larger sized tiles)Method 1) : Use large tiles and make groove for creating illusion of 2 separate tiles. This for better stability of smaller tiles and for proper allignment

standard tile + small cut tile

take larger sized tile

larger sized tile + groove (same width as spacer tab)

Inverted pedestal

33

Fixation of smaller tiles/cuts (connection with plug/pin)Method 2) : Connection using plug and pin system

GOAL : ALWAYS maintaining the width of the open joint between the tiles (spacer tabs!)

re-used spacer tab

Wood & Timber Decking (DPH batten holder for ALL types of Timber Decking)

Lock timber batten in batten holder with screws

(batten width = 65 mm)

Lock DPH batten holder on pedestal with locking pin &

holder plug

Fix slates to batten

38

Rules of thumb – practical guidelines

Pedestals should always be placed on STABLE and EVEN & SMOOTH surface

inspection & preparation of surface

Check whether pedestal is standing stable and firm on substrate

if needed, use levellingcement to stabilise pedestal on uneven surface

NEVER USE WEDGE UNDER PEDESTAL!

If height is not enough, use extra coupler (in case alternative is used, make sure it is BIGGER in surface than the base diameter)

Page 39: Buzon DPH Pedestal System – Installation Instructions ...€¦ · Buzon DPH Pedestal System – Installation Instructions (version 061231) 2 Basic Tools for Installation Recommended

39

Fix tiles at perimeter of decking/terrace with limited or no supporting border

“Tiles have moved at border without proper support of vertical upstand”

Always try to fix tiles and/or pedestals at perimeter border of terrace

Example of terrace with no proper border support – at right future roof garden

Example on bitumen waterproofing : if needed, to increase adhesion of adhesive, abrade membrane surface with burner

Fix pedestal to substrate using adhesive (example : ‘roofseal’ for bitumen membranes, SIKA 11FC for concrete surface)

Use enough adhesive so it enters the base and locks the base to substrate when hardening up

Install tile and fix tiles with screws to pedestals (or with proper adhesive)

Page 40: Buzon DPH Pedestal System – Installation Instructions ...€¦ · Buzon DPH Pedestal System – Installation Instructions (version 061231) 2 Basic Tools for Installation Recommended

40

Small tiles/cuttings need proper alignment measures

“Small tiles or tiles of irregular shape have ‘moved’ “ These problems can be easily avoided by :

Correct use of spacer tabs

Follow correct procedures to work with small tiles (optimal solution see page 32, method 1, and following pages)

Follow correct procedures to properly align and fix small tiles

in principle : ALWAYS try to avoid small tile cuttings by using larger tiles
