Buzzards Bay Writing Project
The Buzzards Bay Writing Project (BBWP) is a nonprofit
K-16 professional development provider for teachers
at all grade levels. The mission of BBWP is to promote
exemplary instruction in writing for every classroom and in
all disciplines.
As a designated site of the National Writing Project, the
Buzzards Bay Writing Project (BBWP) is authorized under
No Child Left Behind Funding, Title II, Part C as a provider
of standards-aligned professional development for
teachers and administrators.
Teacher and Writer Retreats
SeaQuestered:Do you find it difficult to set aside time for your own
writing? Join teachers and writers from across the state
for SeaQuestered, a weekend
retreat in picturesque Cape
Cod. As you explore sandy
beaches, wooded pathways
and oceanfront bluffs, you will
be given time and space to
focus on your craft. You will
also workshop your writing
with your peers and engage
in critical conversations about
writing and teaching writing.
SeaQuestered is held annually
in November. It is open to teachers and writers at all stages

Nantucket Soundings:Voyage to the ruggedly beautiful island of Nantucket for a
three-day immersion in writing and sharing writing. Work
independently or join a response group to workshop your
poetry or prose. Build community with fellow teachers
and writers, and become inspired by Nantucket’s stark and
storied coast. Nantucket Soundings is held annually during
February school vacation. It is open to teachers and writers

Inservice for K-12 Schools
The BBWP is an inservice provider for K-12 schools. We
offer comprehensive instruction in writing and teaching
writing to teachers across all disciplines. Our professional

Invitational Summer Institute
Calling all teachers! The Invitational Summer Institute is
an intensive four-week opportunity for teachers who are
interested in becoming leaders and mentors in the practice
and teaching of writing. The Institute provides:
Time to write and share your writing•
Opportunities to review literature on writing theory •
and teaching writing practices
Leadership training that will enable you to become a •
teacher of teachers
Coaching that will enable you to prepare and present •
site and district-level staff development
Participants will receive a stipend and may earn 6 credits.

Best Practices Showcase
Teacher Consultants from the Buzzards Bay Writing
Project’s Invitational Summer Institute will present dynamic
and engaging lessons
encompassing
writing across the
curriculum for
teachers of all grade
levels and content
areas. Technology is
utilized and strategies
for technological
implementation are
presented.
Participants experience several different lessons choosing
from mutiple offerings. Teachers, administrators, para-
professionals and pre-service teachers are welcome to
attend the Best Practices Showcase. All are eligible to
receive free lesson plans and a certificate of professional
contact hours.
Summer Writing Camp for Students
School’s out... let’s write! Summer
Writing Camp is an opportunity for
students to explore poetry, prose
and other creative genres in a fun,
summertime environment.
Students will participate in inventive
writing prompts and create exciting
new pieces of writing that will build
their skills and confidence. Students
will also have the opportunity to
publish their writing in a variety of ways.
Summer Writing Camp is led by a team of exemplary
teachers who are committed to providing exciting,
challenging and rewarding writing experiences.
