I'm Terry BryantI live in Camargo, Oklahoma with my wife Robin. I am the owner of Terry Bryant Fencingsince 1995. We live on a farm and have been raising BueLingo cattle since 2011. I first seenthem when I was at Darol Dickinson looking at Longhorns. When I seen them I knew Ineeded to buy some of those unique cattle so I ended up buying a couple and bringing themto Oklahoma. We have increased our herd and we sold our first BueLingo this past summerand have been able to sell more this winter. I would be honored to serve on the nationalboard. I am on the Dewey County Fair Board and the Rural Water Board. I have enjoyedgoing to the national conventions and plan on going to many more.

My name is Tonya Albarado, and I am excited to be running for a second term on theBoard of Directors for the BueLingo Beef Cattle Society. A little background about myselfand our BueLingo. I am a wife and working mother of two (Lauren/20 and Haden/15) andhave been raising BueLingo for 10+ years. It continues to be an awesome experience formyself and my family. Although we have a small herd, we work to promote the BueLingobreed, down south in Texas. I am proud to say that we introduced the BueLingo breed forthe first time to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo as well as contributed a cow/calf pairto the Austin Rodeo, “Hall of Breeds”. We believe that others don’t know what they aremissing, if they aren’t breeding our “belted beauties!” I have learned a tremendous amountfrom our other experienced Board Members, and would welcome the opportunity to serveanother term, representing and contributing to promote our BueLingo cattle.

My name is Sean Meyer. I have an awesome family consisting of my wife Marci and 3

daughters Mackenzie (23 yrs), Grace (16 yrs) and Sam (11 yrs). We have been raising

BueLingo cattle for over 10 years starting in Texas with 2 from Joe Steve and 10 from

Eagleton Ranch. After returning to the family farm in 2009 in West Central Illinois, my

BueLingo herd has grown to 30 cows and 3 bulls through retaining my own and purchases

from the Blair’s. We also have a commercial angus herd. Along with cattle, we grow corn,

soybeans, and alfalfa. Another venture our family is starting is building an apple orchard. It

is named “The Belted Cow Orchard” and you can follow it’s progress on Facebook.

Thank you for your consideration as director.

Secretary’s Message April 2017

Take advantage of the pricing promotion and get those animals over 15 months of age registered for the price of $15.00 eachuntil the 1st of May. If I have them in the office or you tell me they are in the mail before the 1st of May, I will honor the price. After the 1st of May up until the 1st of August, price goes to $20.00 each for over 15 months of age.

Look for membership Renewal forms in May along with your herd inventory and PMT status of registered animals.

Convention 2017: Looking for great attendance (people & Cattle) for the convention. New beef barn at the fairgrounds. Helpus all to plan and get organized by making your commitment by June 1, 2017. We need to know numbers to know how to plan.Interested in sponsoring a plaque or the Junior showmanship awards, let us know as soon as possible to get items ordered. The Board of Directors and General Membership will meet in June during the Convention, so get any items or matters ofinterest to a Board member or the office to be placed on the agenda.

Congenital Pseudomyotonia Disorder (PMT):I receive questions and comments, such as; Is it still necessary to test our cattle for PMT or has it played itself out and

become obsolete?Just a recap! Testing began in 2010 when a producer was seeing more than normal affected animals and they sought

answers to what it was, how to avoid getting it and what can be done to breed it out of the BueLingo Cattle. They discoveredthat PMT CARRIERS could be identified by genetic testing. The BBCS Society elected to make PMT testing available to helpmanage the disorder. So far, 1094 animals have been tested by 42 BueLingo producers. Of the 1094, there were 91 PMT CAR-RIERS (8%). Three animals were inconclusive because of poor sampling either by contamination or not enough follicles to test. The inconclusive animals left the herd (culled) before being retested.

So, the question of “do I need to test?” or “is it becoming obsolete?” can be answered easily for the 42 producers whohave tested their entire herds or the majority of their foundation cattle and bloodlines. Yes, testing will become obsolete witheliminating (culling) PMT CARRIERS or managing the PMT CARRIERS by sending their offspring to the feedlots. If theywish to retain the offspring of PMT CARRIER parents as breeding stock, they will need to continue testing until the PMTCARRIER cattle are completely culled from the herd due to age or other reasons.

The producers who have not tested for PMT may find it more difficult to sell breeding stock to PMT FREE managedherds. One PMT CARRIER parent, especially a bull, could increase the percentage of PMT CARRIER animals in the PMTFREE managed herd and again make it necessary for them to test for the Genetic. Thus, never becoming obsolete.

Hope this helps to answer some of your questions. Otherwise, give me a call and I will be happy to talk with you fur-ther about PMT.

Mud, Mud, Everywhere! We were fortunate to start calving in February. Instead of frozen ears to contend with, we had beau-tiful near record warm, dry weather. We even opened up a dirt lot for the cows/calves to romp and play, lay in the sun androlled out some old hay to eat or lay on. We were about half done calving when March came in like a lion. Rain, rain, mud, mud. No romping and playing, no rolling out hay, cause couldn't get out there with it. (I think most of you have had the sameor worse experiences). We are also fortunate to have our retired dairy facility with lots of cement yards. We got pretty crowdedat times, but kept shuffling cow/calves around to find more space. Now only 10 cows left to calve. May take another month toget them all wound up. As soon as things start to dry up. (Hopefully things will dry up a little). Lots and yards and sheds willneed to be hauled out before the corn can be planted. The grass in the pastures are growing and will really take off once theweather turns warmer. But, if still too wet, will have complications of its own.

Not sure of how many are into weather folk lore, but our ember days showed lots of wet, very windy conditions for the3 months of spring. Fog in January and Thunder/lightning in February signifies frost in May to corresponding days. So, aroundthe 20-25th of May when the corn is up and out of the ground (providing it dries off long enough to get it planted), we could bein for a late killing frost. Don’t I paint a really positive, optimistic picture here?

Hoping that your calving season is going safe and productively. See you at the National Convention & show in Juneand be sure and get your information in for participation as soon as possible...before the 1st of June, 2017. Be sure and contactme via phone, or email if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for being a member and supporting the BueLingo Beef Cattle Society.

Sincerely Belted,

Susan Blair, Executive Secretary

P.S. See you in June at the Convention!

I’m just intrigued with this little calf’s beautiful face.

Followed it around the pasture for hours for just the right

picture. Then it started following me around the pasture.

It was probably thinking crazy lady.
