Blackburn with Darwen Countryside Services department is responsible for the management of Witton
Country Park, Sunnyhurst Wood and the West Pennine Moors. My role involved working alongside the Countryside service manager, wardens and other park rangers to devise an extensive programme of events for the borough.
One of my main roles was to work on large scale visitor projects such as the Witton Country Fair and West
Pennine Moors Walking and Riding Festival and producing visitor guides and maps. I also updated council web sites, the facebook group site, green flag web sites and tourist information sites to promote the events and
services. My other roles included administration duties, manning Witton Country Park Visitors Centre, opening and closing buildings, site maintainance, checking playgrounds and public areas and general cleaning duties. I was
also responsible for the health and safety of Witton Country Park Visitor Centre, all council buildings and facilities
on the site and to increase footfall, work as manager when the manager of the parks was away and worked alongside the educational teams to promote the parks around the borough.
Key Achievements:
Successfully producing full and varied events guides including all parks and countryside activities around the
authority.
Proven record in increasing visitor numbers within events I have organised such as the Witton Country Fair

Shakespeare performances, local company family fun day, RSPB events in the parks etc)
Working within budgets set out by the Parks Manager, gaining quotes for work and creating budget
breakdown sheets. Creating useful and diverse databases to help make processing data in any form efficient (e.g. organizing
events, collecting visitor numbers and producing reports etc)
Working on large civic events such as the visit to Witton Country Park by Prince William and Kate Middleton
in April 2011
Working with groups such as BTCV, probation, friends of groups, councillors, chief officers and executive
members to achieve organisational goals throughout the borough. Promoting the new Witts play area at Witton Country Park (a large £600,000 pathfinder play park on the
showfield)
Producing and implementing the parks development and marketing strategy to achieve Greenflag status for
Witton Country Park. Working with environment department staff from other parks to produce their Greenflag management plans.
Manage different visitor centres across the borough and help lead and backmark walks, to support cycling
groups and develop the off road Tramper facility at Witton Country Park (Access for all).
Help develop maintenance plans and instigate work for cycle routes, pedestrian pathways and bridleways
that are in and around Witton Country Park and the West Pennine Moors. Help organise art exhibitions at Sunnyhurst wood Visitor Centre every 12 weeks.
