Last Updated Wednesday, 18 January 2017 Page 1 Parks Development Officer Dec 2008 to Aug 2011 Blackburn with Darwen Countryside Services department is responsible for the management of Witton Country Park, Sunnyhurst Wood and the West Pennine Moors. My role involved working alongside the Countryside service manager, wardens and other park rangers to devise an extensive programme of events for the borough. One of my main roles was to work on large scale visitor projects such as the Witton Country Fair and West Pennine Moors Walking and Riding Festival and producing visitor guides and maps. I also updated council web sites, the facebook group site, green flag web sites and tourist information sites to promote the events and services. My other roles included administration duties, manning Witton Country Park Visitors Centre, opening and closing buildings, site maintainance, checking playgrounds and public areas and general cleaning duties. I was also responsible for the health and safety of Witton Country Park Visitor Centre, all council buildings and facilities on the site and to increase footfall, work as manager when the manager of the parks was away and worked alongside the educational teams to promote the parks around the borough. Key Achievements: Successfully producing full and varied events guides including all parks and countryside activities around the authority. Proven record in increasing visitor numbers within events I have organised such as the Witton Country Fair (increased in two years from 1000 to 8000) and Walking Festival etc. Extending and involving outside organisations and artists to produce a more varied events programme (e.g. Shakespeare performances, local company family fun day, RSPB events in the parks etc) Working within budgets set out by the Parks Manager, gaining quotes for work and creating budget breakdown sheets. Creating useful and diverse databases to help make processing data in any form efficient (e.g. organizing events, collecting visitor numbers and producing reports etc) Working on large civic events such as the visit to Witton Country Park by Prince William and Kate Middleton in April 2011 Working with groups such as BTCV, probation, friends of groups, councillors, chief officers and executive members to achieve organisational goals throughout the borough. Promoting the new Witts play area at Witton Country Park (a large £600,000 pathfinder play park on the showfield) Producing and implementing the parks development and marketing strategy to achieve Greenflag status for Witton Country Park. Working with environment department staff from other parks to produce their Greenflag management plans. Manage different visitor centres across the borough and help lead and backmark walks, to support cycling groups and develop the off road Tramper facility at Witton Country Park (Access for all). Help develop maintenance plans and instigate work for cycle routes, pedestrian pathways and bridleways that are in and around Witton Country Park and the West Pennine Moors. Blackburn with Darwen Countryside Services department is responsible for the management of Witton
