ABOUT BLOOD PRESSUREWhat is Blood Pressure?Blood pressure is the pressure exerted onthe artery walls while blood flows throughthe arteries. The pressure measured whenthe heart contracts and sends blood out of the heart is systolic (highest) blood pressure. The pressure measured whenthe heart dilates with blood flowing backinto the heart is called diastolic (lowest)blood pressure.

Why Measure Your Blood Pressure?Among today’s various health problems,those associated with high blood pressureare very common. High blood pressure dangerously correlates with cardiovasculardiseases. Therefore, blood pressure monitoring is important for identifying those at risk.

• Use blood pressure monitor only for itsintended use.

• Do not wrap the cuff around body partsother than your wrist.

• This unit is intended for use in measur-ing the blood pressure and pulse rate ofadults. Do not use this device on infantsor those who cannot express their ownconsent. This unit should not be operated by children.

• Use only 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries forpower supply.

Blood pressure measurements determinedwith this device are equivalent to thoseobtained by a trained observer using thecuff/stethoscope ausculatory method, with-in the limits prescribed by the AmericanNational Standard, Manual, electronic, orautomated sphygmomanometers.

BLOOD PRESSURE STANDARDThe U.S.Department of Health andHuman Services and the NationalInstitutes of Health have developed ablood pressure standard that identifiesareas of low- and high-risk blood pressure.This standard, however, is a general guide-line as blood pressure varies among differ-ent people, age groups, etc.

As the supplied batteries are for test only,they may be discharged earlier than batteries you buy in stores. Replace the batteries in pairs. Use only 1.5V AAA alkalinebatteries. Remove batteries when unit is notin use for extended periods of time.

DATE & TIME SET PROCEDURE1. To adjust the date/time, press the Set button

located on the side of the monitor. The display willshow a blinking number showing the month.

2. Change the month by pressing the button.Each press will increase the number by one in a cycling manner. Press the Set button again to confirm the entry, and the screen will show a blinking number representing the day of the month.

3. Change the date and time as described in Step 2 above, using the button to changethe numbers and the Set button to confirmthe entries.

APPLYING THE CUFF1. Remove all watches, wrist jewelry, etc. prior

to attaching the wrist monitor. Clothingsleeves should be rolled up and the cuffshould be wrapped around bare skin for correct measurements.

2. Apply cuff to left wrist withpalm facing up as shownin Fig. A.

3. Make sure the edge of the cuff is about1/4”~1/2” (1 cm) from thepalm as shown in Fig. B.

4. In order to insure accuratemeasurements, fasten thehook and loop strapsecurely around your wristso there is no extra spacebetween the cuff and thewrist as shown in Fig. C. If the cuff is not wrappedtight enough, the meas-urement values will not beaccurate.

5. If your physician has diagnosed you with poorcirculation in your left arm, place the cuff aroundyour right wrist as shownin Fig. D.

CORRECT MEASURE-MENT POSTURE1. Place your elbow on a table

so that the cuff is at the samelevel as your heart as shownin Fig. A.Note: Your heart is

located slightly below your armpit.

Relax your entire body, especially between your elbow and fingers.

2. If the cuff is not at the samelevel as your heart or if youcannot keep your arm com-pletely still throughout thereading, use a soft objectsuch as a folded towel tosupport your arm as shownin Fig. B.

3. Turn you palm upwards.4. Sit upright in a chair, and

take 5-6 deep breaths.

MEASUREMENT PROCEDUREImportant Notes:• Position the monitor at the same level as your

heart during measurement to ensure accuratereadings.

• Blood pressure changes with every heartbeatand is in constant fluctuation throughout the day.

• Blood pressure measurement can be affected by the position of the user, his or her physiologic condition and other factors.For greatest accuracy, wait 1 hour after exercising, bathing, eating, drinking beverages with alcohol or caffeine, or smoking to measure blood pressure.

• Before measurement, it is suggested thatyou sit quietly for 15 minutes as measure-ments taken during a relaxed state will have greater accuracy. You should not bephysically tired or exhausted while taking a measurement.

• During the measurement, do not talk ormove your arm or hand muscles.

• See page 26 for additional notes regardingyour blood pressure measurement.

If you are using this blood pressure monitor for the firsttime, please remove the protective film from the screen.

3. After all symbols disappear, the displaywill show “00”. The monitor is “Ready toMeasure” and will automatically inflatethe cuff to begin measurement. The cuffwill then begin deflating as measurementcontinues.

Note: The monitor will re-inflate auto-matically if the system detects that your body requires more pressure for measurement.

1. Press the User Select Button tochoose User 1 or User 2.

After the user number is selected, pressthe START/STOP button to confirm thechosen user.

2. With the cuff wrapped around yourwrist, press the START/STOP button.Do not inflate the cuff unless it iswrapped around your wrist. All digitswill light up, checking the display functions. 4. When the measurement is completed, thecuff wil deflate entirely and systolic pressure,diastolic pressure and pulse will be shownsimultaneously on the LCD screen. Themeasurement is then automatically storedinto memory.

RISK CATEGORY INDICATORThe U.S. Department of Health andHuman Services and the NationalInstitutes of Health have developed ablood pressure standard, classifying bloodpressure ranges into 4 stages. This unit isequipped with an innovative blood pres-sure classification indicator, which visuallyindicates the assumed risk level (normal,prehypertension, stage 1 hypertension, orstage 2 hypertension) of each reading.Symbols are described below and classifi-cations follow the guidelines as describedearlier in this manual (page 7).

SOBRE LA PRESIÓN SANGUÍNEA¿Qué es la presión sanguínea?La presión sanguínea es la presión que se ejerce enlas paredes de la arteria cuando la sangre fluye porlas arterias. La presión medida cuando el corazónse contrae y sale la sangre es la presión sanguíneasistólica (la mayor). La presión medida cuando elcorazón se dilata y entra la sangre se llama presiónsanguínea diastólica (la menor).

¿Por qué medir la presión sanguínea?Entre los varios problemas de salud de hoy, losasociados con la hipertensión son muy comunes.La hipertensión se relaciona de manera peligrosacon las enfermedades cardiovasculares. Por lo tanto,controlar la presión sanguínea es importante paraidentificar a las personas en riesgo.

• No coloque el brazalete en otra parte de sucuerpo que no sea la muñeca.

• Esta unidad está diseñada para usarla enmediciones de la presión sanguínea y del pulsoen adultos. No utilice este dispositivo en niños nien aquellas personas que no puedan expresar suconsentimiento. Los niños no deben operar estaunidad.

INSTALACIÓN DELAS PILAS1. La tapa del compartimiento

de las pilas está ubicadasobre el lado superior delmonitor. Retire la cubierta delas pilas presionando haciaadentro en ambos ladosy halando hacia fuera.

2. Instale la pila superior primero siguiendo las indicaciones de polaridad que se encuentran dentro del compartimiento. Esta piladebe estar en la posición de más abajo según lo que indica la figura 2. Tipo de pila: 2 pilas alcalinas LR03 tamaño (AAA)

3. Coloque la otra pila, segúnlas indicaciones de polaridaddentro del compartimientoy según lo que se muestraen la figura 3.

Como las pilas que se suministran son de pruebaúnicamente, puede que se descarguen antes que laspilas que compra en la tienda. Reemplace las pilasen pares. Solo use pilas alcalinas AAA de 1.5V.Saque las pilas cuando la unidad no esté en usodurante mucho tiempo.

Nota: las pilas son desechos peligrosos. No lasdeseche junto con la basura doméstica.

PROCEDIMIENTO DE CONFIGURACIÓN DE FECHA Y HORA1. Para ajustar la fecha/hora, presione el botón Set

que se encuentra en el lado del monitor.La pantalla mostrará un número intermitentemostrando el mes.

2. Cambie el mes presionando el botón . Cada vez que lo presione aumentará en uno elnúmero de manera cíclica. Presione el botón Setnuevamente para confirmar la definición, y la pantallamostrará un número intermitente que representa el díadel mes.

3. Cambie la fecha y la hora según lo que se describe enel Paso 2 anterior, usando el botón para cambiarlos números y el botón Set para confirmar lasdefiniciones.

APLICACIÓN DEL BRAZALETE1. Quítese el reloj, las alhajas que

tenga en la muñeca, etc., antes decolocar el monitor para la muñeca.Deberá remangarse si tiene mangaslargas y deberá colocar el brazaletealrededor de la piel para obteneruna medición correcta.

2. Aplique el brazalete a lamuñeca izquierda con la palmade la mano hacia arriba, comose muestra en la Fig. A.

5. Si su médico le hadiagnosticado malacirculación en su brazoizquierdo, coloque elbrazalete alrededor de sumuñeca derecha, como semuestra en la Fig. D.

NOTAS IMPORTANTES CON RESPECTO A LASMEDICIONES DE PRESIÓN SANGUÍNEA• Tome su lectura en un entorno cómodo ya que las

medidas pueden verse afectadas por las temperaturascalurosas o frías. Tome su presión sanguínea a unatemperatura corporal normal.
