Sigh. Second semester. Dreary, isn't it? But just think, second semester means one more semester closer to that inevitable freedom called Summer Break. Is it not quite so dreary now? Just stick it out for a few more months High School students. On another note, this month is the month of looooove. Yes sir, old St. Valentine himself is back again. Any plans for the month of February? Take a risk and ask out your best girl from Math, or perhaps that cute guy from Social. Honestly, most people don't understand the whole 'hard-to-get' tactic. So consider this the month of risk-taking, relief, and above all, love.

Sports By Josie BethairI'm not sure how many of you watched the SuperBowl, but just in case there are a few deprived people out there, I'll gladly fill you in. The teams were the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. New England had been celebrating their delightful 19-0 season, while the disgruntled Giants were just looking for a return to glory. The shocker came at the end. The dubbed 'perfect' team of New England were winning 14-10 with 2:39 on the clock. Eli Manning, Giants quarterback knew there was nothing left to say, because this was the drive they had been waiting for. The first play saw a first down, then a missed pass, then what looked like a sack. It wasn't going well, but Manning began fighting and flipped the ball to Tyree, (who fractured his wrist earlier this year) and was promptly tackled by Harrison. Impossible. Apparently that wasn't the end, for what happened next pretty much busted New England's bubble. The next play saw the hobbled and unfortunately named PlaxicoBurress (ankle and knee injuries galore all season) in the end zone with the ball in his hands. Now the score is 17-14 and New England quarterback Tom Brady had 35 seconds for a miracle. He didn't get one. Poor Brady (who was referred to as the male Britney Spears at my house) was sacked five times and knocked down countless more. And that was it. After that last second ticked down, the Giants had won it, and completed what is now being called the greatest upset in sports history. (58% of 272,293 people say so.)

This book is basically a collection of Mercer’s trademark “Rants”. He will review a certain action in politics, criticize it, and then tie it all up with

This inspirational and engaging movie documents the day (April 29th/06) that thousands of Americans slept on the

streets for displaced children in Uganda. (Inspired by the movie “Invisible Children”.)

something ridiculously hilarious. The only issue with this is that it is only one topic, that is, it gets kind of boring after a while and would not be appealing to a very large audience. However, if you know even a tiny bit about politics you will understand and enjoy this book. I give this book 3.5 stars out of 5 because it is hilarious yet on a topic that is not very exciting.

Today, a secret must be told,

Before my patience gets too old.

I come to you on bended knee

To give a softly spoken plea

Of love that’s burning in my heart–

I think I’d die if we should part.

So, let us gallivant away,

For it is Valentine’s today!

This past semester, Master’s high school art students have grown significantly in their artistic talents and creativity. An ongoing sketchbook assignment challenged them

to try new styles and mediums as well as explore their own style and interests. For their first major project, students looked at graffiti and contemporary art, finishing with theirvery own skateboards. Next, they attempted rendering a live model through drawing

or sculpture. The final major project was to explore 3-D art with the practical creation of unique light fixtures. The semester’s class came to an end in January, finishing with a showing of the students’ best work in the Collaborationstudio. Overall, a very successful semester for all the developing artists!

Ponderings By Naomi Harbeck (and no, this is not about me)– I wonder why the lockers are red. I don’t think I’ve seen any other lockers that are

red like that. It’s a weird locker colour. Hum. What’s that sheet on the ground say? Maybe if I squint… ooh! Looks like a – oh, nope, never mind, that’s math homework. But covered in some serious doodlework. I guess I should be doing Physics… Oh, dang! Physics test today I didn’t study I didn’t study I didn’t study I didn’t – Someone just ran by. I wonder what he could be thinking –– Not again! I can’t be late again! Bell’s just rung and it’s only been two minutes

since the first bell... please door don’t be closed YES! Okay, the attendance hasn’t been done yet. Collapse on chair… breathe… breathe… Everything’s out of focus and now everything’s back in focus again and Today we’re learning about chemical bonding, class. Binder is out. Commence doodling. Hey, look, that girl in the back is daydreaming again –– only a few more days till Valentine’s Day. Maybe this time, this time, I’ll get a

valentine… do I have a secret admirer? Oh, it’d be so sweet finding a valentine tucked in my locker with those three beautiful words… but I bet I don’t have a secret admirer. I’m too ugly my face is fat my hair’s a mess – No, I really shouldn’t think that way. Even if it’s true… sigh… Oh, hello, that kid’s on time for class for a change. Whoa, looks like he’s been running. I wonder what he could be thinking –– if I squint, it looks like the tiles are clouds.
