VIRUSES

Definition of a Virus:A computer virus is a piece of code that is secretly introduced into a system in order to damage it or destroy data.

What damage can they do?

They can go from wiping out your interior files or even worse they can take snippets out of your work and change it, and then they can damage your backup files, then its too late.Different viruses:

• Trojan

•Worms

•Email Viruses

To stop getting viruses you can use anti-virus software which will regularly scan your computer and wipe off any unwanted files.

Good anti virus software costs a lot of money, plus the yearly (and sometimes monthly) fee, and some anti virus software updates every day, which can slow down your internet connection when you start it up your internet regularly.

ILOVEYOU,

is a worm that attacked tens of millions of Windows computers in

2000 when it was sent as an attachment to an email

message with the text "ILOVEYOU" in the subject line.

"LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.vbs". Has an extension hidden

,leading unsuspecting users to think it was a text file.

Upon opening the attachment, the worm

sends a copy of itself to everyone in their address book and

user's the senders email address.

Hacking is when someone takes control of an account without permission and edits or uses their details for themselves.Hackers can damage your belongings in a variety of ways:

•Deleting files

•using credit/debit card numbers,

•Use your address and even your personality

•Edit work details like your CV

•and maybe send unwanted files or info to your friends and family

How to avoid hackers:•Put passwords on anything you can, but DON’T TELL anyone your password as this could be any easy way to start hacking.

•Turn off your computer/laptop when you aren't on it, if you leave it on with full internet access open its easier for ANYONE to take advantage.

•Make sure your firewall is always on. Firewall prevents unauthorised intrusions into your

computer system

Hacking Story..

16-year-old Wes Leonard collapsed on the basketball court in Fennville, moments after making a game-winning shot. He died a short time later from a heart problem.

Leonard's friends and family quickly set up a Facebook page in his memory, but hackers trashed it. Now, it's happened again. On Wednesday night Hamilton was stunned when she saw the messages take a dark turn. “It looks like the people have no affection for anyone who is grieving,” said Hamilton. Since Wednesday night the page has filled with terrible messages, most vulgar and insulting, as well as disturbing pictures. What really caught Hamilton's attention was one of those insulting messages showed up as being from her, with her name and picture. “I was kind of scared,” said Hamilton. “I didn't know if they were trying to stalk me or what.” The disturbing message were an attack of what people who deal with internet security call trolls. There have been similar types of attacks on memorial pages for people all over the country, including other pages dedicated to Wes Leonard, a truly shocking insult to families that are already suffering. “They don't have a conscience,” said Hamilton. There is a law on the books against hacking someone's online accounts and sending messages meant to harass or terroize. Experts say one way to prevent such things from happening is to make sure your Facebook password is strong enough that no one can guess it and send messages as you.

A backup is when you keep a copy of the files, details and important data. If something happens to your files on your PC you already have an extra copy.

Backups can be on USBs, floppy disks, or online also known as “cloud”.

But never keep your source of backup where it can be easily approached and accessed by

strangers, definitely don’t keep it in your computer if it’s a floppy disc or USB.
