To the north the Atlantic Ocean, to the south the Caribbean Sea, to the east Puerto Rico, and to the west Cuba.

Demography:

The population of the Dominican Republic is 10,056,181 (2011)

Official Language: Spanish

Independence Day: February 27, 1844

Climate: Annual temperatures ranges from 66° to 93° F

About 95% of the population is Roman Catholic. The other 5% are from other religions.

Catholicism was introduced by Columbus and the Spanish missionaries.

Since the beginning of time, music and dance has been an imperative part of the Dominican culture and its people.

Music is a way Dominicans use to express emotions.

There are two main genres of music native to the Dominican Republic.

Is a style of dance that originated in the Dominican Republic.

Developed mostly in last forty years and it gained international popularity.

The basics to the dance are three-step with a Cuban hip motion.

Merengue is a musical genre native to the Dominican Republic.

By the middle of the nineteenth century, the Merengue was very popular in the Dominican Republic.

It is very popular throughout the Caribbean and South America, and is one of the standard Latin American Dances.

Baseball is by far the most popular sport in the Dominican Republic today.

After the United States, the Dominican Republic has the second-highest number of baseball players in Major League Baseball (MLB). 

There are around 260 active players from the Dominican Republic in MLB.

"La Bandera" (the flag), the most popular national dish in Dominican Republic. 

Is a combination of rice, red beans, stewed meat, salad and fried plantains.

This basilica dedicated to the Virgin of Altagracia (High Grace).
