Tufted saxifrage

The tufted saxifrage grow in think bunches on the tundra. Its flower stems which are stait on 3-15 cm high are surrounded by leaves only 5-10 mm long the flowers also contain little friut that has many seeds

Species: patensThe pasque flower can have 5-8

petals and can be colors in the range of lavender to white. This flower also produces a plum and is considered the prettiest of the tundra flowers.

bearberry

Genus: ArctostaphylosSpecies: uva-ursi

The bearberry is a low growing evergreen its stem has thick bark and fine hairs. Its flowers have five petals and can be pale pink or white. Its friut is a tiny red berry that bears love to eat.

Snowy OwlGenus: NycteaSpecies: scandiacaThe snowy owl is considered the largest and most attractive of owls. They have yellow eyes and large ears hidden under their mass of white feathers. Snowy owls mate every breeding season.

Artic FoxGenus: LagopusSpecies: alopexThe artic fox finds areas that are not frozen and makes it burrow there. It is a scavenger and sometimes follows a polar bear or other predator so it can eat the remains of its kill. The fox is about the size of a housecat and has short legs with a big bushy tail. Their mating season is from may to February and mother give birth to 6-19 pups.

Polar BearGenus: UrsusSpecies: maritimusThe polar bear is the largest carnivore on land. They have two layers of fur which keeps them warm. Bears mate in march and have their cubs 7-8 months later the dig burrows where they give birth.

Grizzly bearGenus: UrsusSpecies: arctos horribilisThe grizzly bear is aggressive and has no problem surviving in the tundra. It eats mostly plant and small mammals as well as driving other predators away from meat. Mothers give birth to 2-4 cubs in January but the bear cubs are usually twins.

Species: ermineaErmines make their dens in the crevice of a

rock or the roots of a tree. The ermine is a carnivore and has 34 sharp teeth. They breed each year having 3-13 cubs.

The climate range of tundra is 22 to 6 C degrees (-10 °F to 41 °F).

Average annual range of precipitation is 8 inches (20 centimeters)
