• ARM chips are less expensive and provide longer battery life

• Chrome is also accelerating the shift of PC’s to the cell phone industry

Chrome OS (again)

• PC to cell phone switch would make the service carrier have the hardware and software and have monthly service fees as well.

• Chrome OS is a huge business opportunity for Google because it will allow them to compete more successfully with Microsoft.

Plans of Competition

• In the early 90’s Schmidt tried to challenge Microsoft, but could not compete with Microsoft’s marketing advantages.

• In 2003-2005 secret meetings, code-named “Canada” were put into place to develop plans to foil Microsoft’s acquisition of Yahoo.

• Schmidt acquired the Microsoft VP (Lee) to run his Chinese business

• In 2007 Google came out with word-processing and spreadsheet software to compete with Microsoft Office.

• Android, software used to power applications on mobile phones, was recently introduced to compete with similar Microsoft software

Chrome’s Current Popularity

• Chrome is holding less than 2% of the market share. Compared to the 65.5% of Microsoft and 22.5% of Firefox

• The market share is not impressive, and in no way could Google be considered dominant at the current time.
