ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT RAYS
By: Natalie Alexander and Elisa Desclous
Firstly… What is ultraviolet?
Ultraviolet means “beyond violet.” Ultraviolet light rays
(UV Rays) follow visible light on the spectrum, the last color of which is violet, so this name makes sense!
Characteristics
UV Rays have slightly shorter wavelengths and slightly higher
frequencies than visible light, putting it higher on the scale than it.
UV Rays and Your Health
UV Rays are actually sun rays. These rays can make you healthier (they
make your cells produce vitamin D) but they can also have negative effects on
your health. These rays can cause short-term damage such as sunburn,
or long term damage like skin cancer. Prevent these with sunscreen!
Everyday Life
UV Rays can have more uses than just lighting your room. They can also
create electricity through solar panels that can be used for powering homes,
businesses, and cars!
