Adult males may be more than 8 feet long, from nose to end of tail, and generally weigh between 130 and 150 pounds. Adult females can be 7 feet long and weigh between 65 and 90 pounds.

Size: Mountain lions vary considerably in size. The head and body measure between 107-270 cm (42-96 in.) in length, and the tail measures 76-91 cm (30-36 in.). It can weigh as much as 100 kg (220 pounds), but most adult females weigh 34-80 kg (75-176 lbs), and males range from 67 to 103 kg (148-227 lbs) The height at the shoulder is 66-79 cm (26-31 in.).

They usually hunt alone at night. They prefer to ambush their prey, often from behind. They usually kill with a powerful bite below the base of the skull, breaking the neck. She defends them vigorously against males lions, which may kill them. New born kittens are about 1 foot long and weigh about 1 pound. The young stir only to nurse until they are about 2 weeks old, when their eyes open and they become alert and playful.
