VoL. III, Issue 8 October 2015

The Pillar is the official publication of Ubar Grotto, MOVPER, located in Elizabethtown, PA. Constituted July 23, 2011. Stated Meetings held on the 4th Sunday of each month, beginning at 6 PM,

except July, August, and December.

So much is happening right now in the world of Ubar Grot-to that I don't even know where to start. The October Meet-ing, Ceremonial and Halloween Hootenanny is just days away and it may go down in history as one of the hardest Grottoing nights in the history of all of Grotto. Aside from questionable costumes (with or without pants) and excep-tionally eccentric behavior, we're bringing in new members to our Realm and holding nominations for elected office! Not only that, but we're also hosting a number of Prophets traveling from all corners of the Realm to take part in the annual Halloween tomfoolery. Let's show these boys how Grottoing is done at Ubar! In other news, the Big Six items will be retrieved soon bya couple Ubarians planning to take a road trip out west. And, rumor has it, that our Doctor of Smiles - Prophet Jack Harley - has successfully helped to facilitate special dental care to a local child through our charity, the Humanitarian Foundation! Way to Grotto, Jack!

As I'm watching my year as Monarch slowly come to a close, I can't help but to sit here and think that we have done so much this year as a Grotto... and I feel like I haven't done a thing at all, because we have an awesome group of Prophets that simply make things happen on a daily basis. Well done, gentle-men. Two more months to go. Let's keep up the momen-tum and end this year with a bang!

Good talk. See you out there.

Notes from the Secretary

Dues notices will be going out in late October / early November. Please plan accordingly!

As I write this, I’m wrapping up the weekend of my final meeting as President of the Pennsylvania Grot-to Association. I had a great year, with many wonderful friends and fond memories made. I want to thank everyone at Ubar for their support of my Grotto journey, both with the PGA and in other arenas.

With 2015 coming to a close, I find myself looking forward to a year as Worshipful Master of Abraham C. Treichler Lodge No. 682 in Elizabethtown. Just as with any Lodge, the requirements placed on the Master are large, with several meetings per month as well as additional responsibilities between meet-ings. Contemplating this next step in my Masonic journey, I’ve realized that I’m stretching myself thin. My two biggest commitments have been to my Lodge and to Ubar Grotto. I never want to put myself in a position where I can’t give my all. Unfortunately, with the greater demands at Lodge, I know that the time has come where I must make a decision on where my time and energy are being spent. I never want to do a disservice to my Lodge or my Grotto by being unable to live up to my obligations.

With that in mind, I have informed the officers that I will not seek nor accept the nomination for Secre-tary of Ubar Grotto for the 2016 year. I’ve Grottoed hard for the past five years and now it’s time to let someone else do so. I intend to remain an active member and continue my duties as District Deputy of the Supreme Council, if only because someone has to keep an eye on the chimps at Azim.

Thank you, Prophets, for being true friends and Brothers. So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Seth

Failed Units Wherein we imagine Grotto Units that failed to

capture the attention of the Prophets.

Get out and vote

Since day one, Ubar has championed free and open elections. Unlike some groups, we do not "pick" a person to go in the bottom of the line of officers. Rather, we encourage an-yone and everyone interested to offer them-selves as a candidate and let the Prophets choose who they want to be their leader. The Venerable Prophet you elect this year will be your Monarch in three years - so, essentially, you're electing a Monarch with your vote. The Chief Justice, Master of Ceremonies, and Venerable Prophet are expected to ad-vance one chair (to Monarch, Chief Justice, and Master of Ceremonies, respectively) - as long as the Prophets are happy with them, that is! The entrance into the line is the office of Ven-erable Prophet, which any Prophet may run for. Also up for election are the Secretary, Treasurer, and one three year Trustee. At the October Stated Meeting we will call for the nomination of candidates. Any person wishing to run for an office will need a Proph-et to nominate them for the office. That Prophet should give a quick run down of their candidate’s resume, hopefully with some hu-mor. A second is NOT required. Once the nominations are closed, the list of candidates will be published in the November notice and they are permitted to start to campaign for their seat. In next month’s notice, we’ll discuss how the

Ubar Grotto Commando Club Prophet Laser took the Unit one step too far. No members ever signed up. The uniform was sum-

marily burned.
