ROMANS 9-11• Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it

is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

• What about the Jews?• The majority had rejected the Messiah• John 1:11 He came to his own, and his own people did

not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

• 9:6 But it is not as though the word of God has failed.

• 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part?

• 9:19 You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?”

• 9:30 What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness did not succeed in reaching that law.

THEODICY • A justification of the ways of God to people• Showing what God is doing and that He is right in

what He is doing• Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the

glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

• Romans 9:1 I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit— 2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh.

• Romans 9: 4 They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises. 5 To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.

Hebrews 11:32 And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets— 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith

HOW THE TRIUNE GOD SAVES• Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through

faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

• Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.

• John 3:3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

• John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

PRINCIPLES

• Neither spiritual heritage, nor spiritual knowledge, nor spiritual behavior save a person

• There is only one way to be saved: by God’s grace through faith in the One Holy Triune God

• God is sovereign over who He saves• All believers should, by their new nature, grieve

over the unbelief of others

APPLICATIONS

• Who do you credit for your salvation?• Tell your family members how the One Holy

Triune God saved you• Evaluate how you feel about unbelievers -

does it line up with Scripture• Begin praying regularly for God to save certain

people that you know• Study God
