Presidents Message

Season 2014/15 was a successful year for the Kookas, I’ll break it down into sections of the club foryou:

JUNIORS: We had Milo In2Cricket (U8’s) and teams in under 9’s to 15’s. U9s and 10’s don’t playcompetition cricket, per say, however if you ask the kids they all take it very serious and all have akeen eye on the scorecard at the end of each match. That’s the competitive spirit in us, which ishuman nature. Chris Dickson led the U9’s through their first season of junior cricket and the spiritamongst this team is very high after a season of fun!

Of the remaining teams, we managed two minor premiers (13-14div 1 and 15div2), 4 teams insemi-finals and unfortunately no major premiers, but it’s not all about winning, right? These kidshave a great deal of fun and special thanks must go to the coaches and parents who make theSaturday experience an enjoyable and challenging one.

DISTRICT: A very successful season for us this year, with one of the youngest rosters in thecompetition we managed 3 teams into the semi-finals (2’s, 3’s and 4’s). There are plenty ofpositives to reflect on throughout this annual report such as the individual brilliance of manyplayers. Special mention must go to 3rd grade who won the minor premiership which is anexcellent achievement and recognition for a very consistent season.

The delight for us all is the youth at the club, they certainly injected a sense of enthusiasm andenergy into the senior training sessions and the development of these kids was apparent as theseason went on. The club is committed to continuing to improve how this demographic ismanaged and also putting a heavy focus to see this demographic develop to be a force in seniorcricket for a very long time. To the mums and dads who make the effort to assist in their kidsgoals, we thank you!

CITY & SUBURBAN: The injection of some talented C&S cricketers in the off season gave us theperfect opportunity to get our C&S model close to what we want it to be, whilst we didn’t get theresults we were after it does not discount the success we experienced in this section of our club. The greatest challenge we have is learning and adapting to the C&S brand and my hat goes off tothe players in our teams this year. Especially D’3 who have been winless for three seasons andmanaged 3 wins this season – that’s a huge positive – the almost perfect mix of youth andexperience allowed this team to be more competitive and from all reports it was a very enjoyableseason.

We are hoping a tinker with the grading’s next year will put us in a strong position to push forfinals at the pointy end.

COMMITTEE: My heartfelt thank you and congratulations to the efforts of the currentmanagement committee. It is a very productive committee and every single member plays anintegral part of the success this club has before it. We are in the strongest position for financialviability and are now able to make long term plans for capital improvements and planning to makethe Cricket Southern Lakes brand envied amongst our rivals.

SPECIAL THANKS: Firstly, Graeme “Jenko” Jenkinson. Has been scoring for over 35years andcurating for nearly 20years. This year Jenko has advised he will be hanging up the pen after earlierin the season retiring from the curating role. Fortunately the club implemented the Jenkinson-Brown trophy to reflect on the huge contribution both Graeme and his Wallsend counterpart havemade to local cricket, particularly between our two clubs. We will still enjoy a beer with our Jenkoand I am sure he won’t be a stranger to Ron Hill Oval.

Mike McKenzie has also decided to hang up the whistle and become a spectator. Mike joined theclub in the early 2000’s and quickly made an impact to the junior development programs withinthe club, Mike has individually coached many of our junior players. Mike makes it along to a juniormatch every Saturday morning before heading to First grade to critique it in the only way Mikeknows how. Mike is a ruthless competitor and is always looking to improve – even after anoutright victory!

I had the personal pleasure of working closely with Mike through the implementation andexpansion of the Toronto Academy of Cricket Excellence (TACE) program, Mike is passionate aboutjunior development and ensuring everyone is looking to improve, as well as having some fun.

Mike was nominated for life membership in April, Mike obviously didn’t know at this stage andonly days later he announced his retirement, the timing could not have been better to reflect theselfless efforts and Mike’s contribution to Cricket Southern Lakes. Apart from Mike’s coachingefforts and vision for the future, Mike has sat on the committee throughout his involvement withthe club and life membership – should it be accepted at the AGM – is thoroughly deservingrecognition for his contribution. Mike, we thank you!

We look forward to building on the success of this season and going one step further with a fewteams next year.

GO THE KOOKAS!

Management Report

It is with pleasure that I present the report on the management functions for the 2014/15 season.I would like to thank all members of the management committee this year for their efforts anddedication, particularly our treasurer and the social committee they made the season veryenjoyable with some exciting events.

The committee again enjoyed great debates on how we should be moving forward, all ideas werediscussed and many positive outcomes achieved this made this season a most enjoyable one, thecommittee was an excellent mix including 2 women who were very active and supportive inworking with the single purpose of good management and the improvement of the club.

Highlights for the season were

The on field performance of all the playing staff was much improved and the implementation ofmore coaches is paying dividends particularly in the fielding area however there is always morework that could be done in this area.

We improved in the club championship and had semi-finalists in the following grades

2nd Grade3rd Grade Minor Premiers4th GradeU15 T20 Winners for a second successive yearU15 Div 2 Minor PremiersU13 Div 3 Minor PremiersU13 – 14 Div 1 Minor PremiersU12 Div 2

U10 Div 2 Finished 3rd but do not play semi-finalsU9 Div C Performed with distinction

I am sure that the coaches and captains with point this out in their reports on each grade later inthe Annual Report.

The C & S sides both improved and our new model worked better however refinements willcontinue until we get it right.

I would like to thank all our coaching staff particularly the junior coaches & managers who tookteams this year your efforts were fantastic and I encourage you to come back next season andcontinue the good work, I would also like to remind you that if you would like to become qualifiedby doing courses we will help and that we have an excellent coaching staff associated with thesenior teams and they will also assist if requested.

I would also like to thank Mike McKenzie for his tireless work over the past 10 years and wish himwell in his retirement. He has been nominated for life membership at the AGM and I am sure wewill still see him sitting in his usual spot at Ron Hill.

The social functions run this year were hugely successful a lot of the credit for this goes to FionaSomerville and Sharon Hart – the auditorium set up for our presentation nights was fantastic well

Page 10: Contentssouthernlakes.nsw.cricket.com.au/files/2316/files/201415... · 2015. 6. 22. · GREG HUNT T20 PAUL TOOLE 2ND GRADE AARON GRAY 3RD GRADE SCOTT MARJORIBANKS ... 27 Steve Wheelhouse

as was the organisation of all social events – a well-planned operation during the season I hope tosee you back next year.

Congratulations to Andrew Somerville, Griffin Lea & Peter McCredie who have made theCNSW U17 squad – well done boys

Joe Price named Newcastle Representative Player of the season Logan Johnson named Newcastle Junior Player of the season The wickets at Ron Hill continue to improve since the soil change was made and new roller

has worked a treat once we got past some teething problems. We have some of the bestfacilities and equipment in town.

The practice square is improving but still requires more work to enable our batsmen todevelop to the level required to perform at the highest level, more work is required fromthe ground staff to make this vision a reality, the practice facilities need be as good as thecentre wicket.

A fabulous attendance at of our award presentations showed great club spirit andenthusiasm for the future especially the 250 at the junior presentation. The senior formalevent was very well received particularly by the official guests.

New equipment was purchased for Awaba Oval Ground improvements continued particularly at junior venues. The water leakage problem at Ron Hill should be fixed when the new roof goes on during

the winter. Thanks to the work of a few our financial resources are in the best state ever – however a

few more helpers would not go astray please put your hand up if you can help even onceor twice a year would be very beneficial.

Our working relationship with the other users of ourgrounds is excellent big thanks goes to those thatparticipate in ovals boards.

The retention rate of our younger players hasincreased, and to those who are moving on to furthertheir development we wish them well and are alwayshappy to assist in their playing development perhapssometime in the future they will come back and addfurther to the club.

Newcastle U 17 Rep Players & the President

I would like to thank all club members for their positive approach to the past season and lookforward to next year being bigger and better with additional improvements to the facilities whichshould enable our players to further improve.

Financial Report

Welcome to another successful year for Cricket Southern Lakes/Toronto Workers. I wouldlike to thank all of the Committee for their support and input during the season. The Club’s assets have increased by $10,631.28 from last season. This is due to thepurchase of a roller for $5,500.00 and an increased cash balance of $13,500.21. We haveno outstanding Debtors or Creditors.

To meet the Club’s established Order of Business we have closed off the Club’s books as atApril 30, 2015 therefore Raffle expenses and the 2015 Presentation Night figures will bereflected in next year’s Profit & Loss schedule.

The Club’s income for the year (May 1, 2014 – April 30,2015) was $109,596.06 and expenses $99,678.48. Thisproduced a net profit of $9,917.58 which is a reductionof $5,999.47 on last year’s profit. This reduction isreflected through an increase in clothing expenses($5,491.55), machinery maintenance ($2,230.57) and anincrease in the number of our social events formembers ($4,784.54) which on most occasions werewell attended. The revenue from our Saturday nightmeat raffle has decreased by $3,289.18 which, despitethe best efforts of Committee & Club members, nowcompetes directly with the Workers Club whichconducts its own meat raffle prior to the Cricket Club’smeat raffle on a Saturday evening.

As at April 30, 2015 the Club had total assets of$75,348.18 which included $32,121.13 in cash, plant

and equipment $30,353.05. Stock, clothing and rental board/security deposit make upthe balance of $12,874.00At the end of last season it was intended to lodge $10,000.00 on Term Deposit, this didnot eventuate however our investment account maintained a balance over $20,000 forthe last 12 months.

Going forward the Club has major expenses in the updating of the Club’s playing attire. Aquote has been received from Alpha Sports for $28,500.00 although this will be subject tosome adjustments as we move closer to the time of purchase. We are in the process ofnegotiating with sponsors to assist in meeting the majority of the expenses. It is intendedthat up-grades of playing areas will continue to provide the best facilities for our players.

On behalf of the Club I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tony Amodio for hisassistance and support over the last 12 months. In closing I would like to thank all members of the Club for their support.

The season of 2014/15, saw a re-emergence of the Club to the semi-final podium, with 2nd,3rd and 4th grade making this stage, with unfortunately only one, 3rd grade, taking home theMinor Premiership. Our heartiest congratulations to the fighting 3rds…a result so richlydeserved!!This is we believe a fine achievement within the ranks, considering the year before whenno side at all made the finals, but once again the side that needed to lead and showed somuch promise, 1st grade, fell at the crucial moment late in the season and did not achievethe result so required by the Club, both in end of season placing and Association ClubChampionship. Their success in the Country Cup though must not be forgotten, thus whytheir end of normal season result, does not justify of what kind of season they could havehad.A finishing result in the Club Championship of 4th did not truly indicate a year that startedwith so much promise, yet waned at the important part of the season. With a pre-seasonthat began very early with an influx of new players, indoor/outdoor sessions and trial gamesagainst St. George and Toukley, the enthusiasm was electric and promising for the yearahead. As Coaches, our aim is to improve every individual player and see those improvementsmove onto the playing field with success as our indicator. The past season has shown manyindividual and Club successes, and yet also show some areas that we collectively, mustdevelop and work on to continue our strengthening of the Club. This report is not too reinforce those successes, as they are listed in the Captains andCommittees statements, but as Coaches some areas do need to be noted for the seasonthat finished and for the season ahead…..

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT: with the continuing implementation of the TACE pre-seasondevelopment camp, its continuing popularity with all concerned at the junior level is a creditto the Club since its inception. The interaction of both Junior and senior members isexcellent to see the growth of cricket within our area. Congratulations.Another creditable note, is the continuing incorporation of the U15/16 side to the seniortraining sessions that allow this age bracket to improve their individual skill with theinfluence of the senior players. Their improvement allows the Club to continually fieldcompetitive sides each week, when players are unavailable particularly in the lower grades. We thank you….

TRAINING: the result of our grades in making the finals, confirmed the achievements of allthe hard work that the players did during the season at training. It appeared this year thatan emphasis on skill based and match intensity in both the bowling and fielding areas cameto the forefront, with results in games emphasising this aspect throughout the year atcrucial times. The batting department is much underestimated within the Club. Talent is brimming overthe edge, but we need to take training more seriously and use the time not to only refineskills, but practise and improve our match strategy. Batsmen should gauge the pace of theball, conditions, etc. and walk out of the nets knowing that they didn’t get out and workedhard during their time. These are aspects the Coaches will discuss and implement nextyear…

One disappointing point of the year, was the falling away of intensity following the Xmasbreak. This has been habitual in the last few seasons, and it must be addressed quickly. Wewere on a roller coaster as a Club leading into the break, but alarming fell away. This aspectmust be individually reviewed by every player and be eliminated from our culture.

FUTURE: this year within the Club, many players began to blossom and confirm their abilityin their respective areas, and their successes were enjoyed by all.

Ben Roberts, Adam Buchmasser, Brayden Downie, Andrew Somerville Blake Glennie andSean Scott making their 1st Grade Debut

Joe Price being named Newcastle Representative Player of the Year Logan Johnson Junior Newcastle Player of the Year Greg Hunt being Selected in the NSW Country X1 Six players selected in the U16 Bradman Cup side Four players selected in the U17 Country Squad, with two progressing to the next level One player selected in the U14 Kookaburra Cup side

In conclusion, may I also take this opportunity to thank all the tireless members of the clubthat supported us this year…the Curators, Parents, Committee, Supporters, Sponsors,Scorers, Life Members and naturally all you players.

It would also be amiss in me in not including and thanking my fellow Coaches, Bill Bannon, GregHunt, and in particular Mike McKenzie.Mike has now decided to retire from the Coaching scene and extend his Saturdays in getting a colddrink and comfortable chair, and watching the Kooka’s do their thing! His experience and love ofthe game has indeed developed a many number of players throughout the years, and the gamewould have been poorer without his involvement.Enjoy the sunny days ahead my friend…your richly have earned it.

The season as a whole was successful and a great building block for the future seasons. If we workall together towards a common goal and back each other up on the field and in training to reach ourgoals, Toronto will definitely be putting our name back onto the cricketing map!

Social Report

We have been a combined Senior/Junior club for 4 years and this year we decided to try and havesome social events that would incorporate both groups.

Our first event was a Trivia Night where some junior parents came and mixed with the gradeplayers and their partners, everyone who attended said they had fun and there were lots of prizesto give away.

Our second event was a Christmas Party at Ron Hill for all our members. We had over 100members come on the day. There were jumping castles and games fairy floss and slushies also. Itwas very hot and the jumping castle staff splashed plenty of water on all the kids to keep themcool. Santa came and gave away lollies and again everyone said it was a great day.

Our third event was a Junior Disco this wasn’t so popular but a lot of feedback was that the juniorswere unaware it was on. We will be having another one next season just to see how that one goes. The kids who turned up on the night enjoyed themselves and said they would love to haveanother one. The parents get to spend time out in the restaurant or bar while the kids are takencare of in the auditorium. Some parents ordered food from the restaurant and came back to thedisco and ate and joined in dancing as well.

Our fourth event was a Hypnotist night again everyone who attended said they had a great timethis was for the junior parents and grade players.

We had surveys go out to all the junior parents and all the grade players asking for more ideas fornext season and what it was that we could do as a club to make it more fun for the players. Wehave had lots of responses and we ask that you all check your emails, Facebook and texts on aregular basis next season so you can find out all the fun things we will be doing.

We hope to see you at our social events next season.

Fiona and Sharon

1st Grade

Hi guys and another season has passed by! They are defiantly coming and going quicker as I getolder! I would like to start off with saying what a great loss it is for Mike to be steeping back withhis roles at Toronto but he will be able to look back with great achievement with the people hehas guided and coached through the club and watch them mature and progress through thegrades.

Throughout the year there were some great individual performances from the team, it was apleasure to watch Nathan Hudson hit his maidencentury in 1st grade and to do that at where it allstarted at was a real buzz for me and to have himback at the club and to see the maturity he is nowplaying with is certainly great to see and furtherhonours can't be all that far away!

Nathan Hudson contemplates what next

Brinn Osland was once again heading for another wonderful season with the ball beforeInjury interrupted his season but he bounced back brilliantly and was certainly my bowler of theseason, always looked dangerous with the ball and beat the bat countless times.

David McCredie continued to impressme as the year went on and am blownaway by the talent this guy has and wasgreat to see him strike up a greatopening partnership with Nathen at thetop of the order and really was a greatlead off for the team to follow thiscoming season.

Joe Price Man of the Match and RepresentativePlayer of the season

Andrew Nicolai was once again thefall back guy when we needed awicket or chasing some quick runs, one of the most unselfish cricketers Ihave had the chance to with andwould do anything to help the teamout and was constantly ask toprovide for the team at his ownneeds come second! A wondercricketer to play with and givensome chances this year where hecan bat for himself I expect somepretty impressive results coming hisway this year!

Andrew Nicolai at top pace v Belmont Ron Hill Oval – Round 1

Josh Newell again continued to impress me when he was giving the opportunities and no morethan when he bowled us to victory in Tamworth. Hopefully with some more opportunities andsome more time on the training paddock he will be a very tricky opponent on the field for theopposition this coming season.

Greg Hunt and Paul Toole, I don't need to say too much about these guys as I know they arelooked upon each week to set the standard for the restof us to follow and bring the best out of us, we needthese wise heads to lead from the front this season forus to be pushing for higher honours.

Griffin Lea and Andrew Sommerville, unfortunatelyboth of these guys where cut short through injury so Iwill keep this short about these guys because I have afeeling that I won't be the only one writing about theseimmensely talented cricketers and be great watchingthem start to lead the Toronto attack!

Paul Toole – It’s a breeze when you’re not Captain!

Logan Johnson a youngster who joined us thisseason and stabilised the later middle order battingand was recognised as the junior 1st Grade player ofthe season, a big future is ahead for him.

Logan receives his award from Paul Marjoribanks NDCAChairman at our presentation night

Throughout the year we had some wonderful results and looking to be heading the right directionup the ladder but to many times we were left holding the can from some lacklustre performances,we lost to many times against the guys I expected to beat and in the end those games cost us atop 4 spot, but another year wiser and stronger and once again I expect to be pushing for thebusiness end of the season, cheers guys and here's to an exciting season approaching.

Second Grade

This season for 2nd grade was going great guns, right up until about March.

At Christmas we were flying high in 1st place, 14 points adrift of the field. We started back just aswell after Christmas with some tough wins including a reverse outright V Wallsend and a dominantoutright victory over Hamilton Wickham. It is without a doubt a turning point when two of ourfinest up and coming cricketers Andrew Somerville and Griffin Lea sustained injuries whichimpacted the depth of our bowling ranks throughout the club, yet we still pushed for some qualitywins.

For us to finish the season the way we did was disappointing and not a true reflection of theseason we had. The final round was washed out in controversial circumstances which meant wedid not have a chance to play for a win and potentially the minor premiership. Instead, wefinished 3rd which impacted our strategy in semi-final cricket. That said, some future superstarswere exposed to 2nd grade who got a look at half of the Newcastle Bradman Cup team: Joe Hart,Adam Buchmasser, Ben Roberts as well as Peter McCredie, Andrew and Griffin who were alsorecently selected in the NSW state squad.

Not to mention contributions from Corey Brown earlier in the season, this guy is a future 1st gradecaptain in my opinion and he will get it back on track very soon, it’s a matter of when not if! AydenMcKinnon also got a glimpse of higher opportunities and starred with a 6 wicket haul late in theseason V Charlestown (minor premiers).

Then the older brigade in Chris Kuszelyk, Rich Stark, Chris Dickson, Steve Wratten and later in theseason Luke Penfold. These guys all bring a wealth of experience which at various times shonethrough, what they bring to the dressing room is invaluable.

We were also very fortunate to get Corey Piccirillo for the season, amongst plenty of strongperformances was a freakish day out at Passmore Oval. In the one match Corey claimed two 7wicket hauls which culminated to 14 for 65 in the match – truly remarkable, which led the team tooutright victory over Hamilton Wickham! Corey fits into both categories above as he is both oldand young, he is a great role model for the young players and brings a wealth of first gradeexperience also.

The highlight of the season for mine (and probably the best win I have been involved in) was ourreverse outright victory against Merewether at Empire Park, the eventual premiers, back inOctober. It was a low scoring affair on a very green track;

Week1: we batted first and managed 91. We bowled and they past us 9 down after Josh Newelltook his first 5fa for the weekend (he claimed 5 wickets the following day to win the match for usin the Country Cup in Tamworth), Josh ripped through a “star studded” line-up which includedmultiple 1st premiership winners from recent seasons, we eventually bowl them out just a fewruns past our score. We batted late in the day and lost 2 wickets.

Week 2: we started the day 2 down with a lead of nearly 20. We knew we had to bat most of theday to set up an opportunity for outright victory. We managed a score of 130, which in hindsightwas not too bad in the conditions. We then set to bowl them out for an unlikely outright victory,

Page 36: Contentssouthernlakes.nsw.cricket.com.au/files/2316/files/201415... · 2015. 6. 22. · GREG HUNT T20 PAUL TOOLE 2ND GRADE AARON GRAY 3RD GRADE SCOTT MARJORIBANKS ... 27 Steve Wheelhouse

they were chasing 125 with plenty of overs left. The run chase got off to a flyer, they were 60 runswith a blink of the eye. We then had a few break throughs to get a sniff before rain stopped playwhen they were 6/110 – still requiring about 15 for victory. The rain delay was about 1 hour andwe lost 16 of the remaining 28 overs, which meant we had 12 overs to take 4 wickets or for themto score the 15 for victory. The crowd had now swelled as the other grades had finished, allMerewether fans of course! We went out after the rain delay and bowled a few tight overs, maidens in fact. They couldn’t lay bat on Michael Pratt. Enter Raymond Steadman, after justbeing sent back from 1st grade his confidence was high I threw the ball to Ray with hope he couldpull off a miracle. A miracle he did, Ray bowled the spell of his life to snatch an unlikely outrightvictory with only a few runs remaining, the final wicket was a well hit ball straight in the air, theball was wet, the air was sticky and Ray screamed out “MINE”. He took the catch as safe as ahouse to the delight of his team mates. Ray was the hero, finishing with 4 wickets, we were thevictors. To win in front of the jovial crowd and in those circumstances was a thrill and a greatexperience for all involved. We gave the dressing room the best version of our club songimaginable, probably the best ever!

I mention this game, as this was the story of our season. We won games we shouldn’t have, wedominated in games which showed our class but overall we had a great season and with a bit ofluck late in the season I am sure we would have been there on grand final day.

Thank you to Jude Hall and Fiona Somerville for doing the majority of the scoring throughout theseason, thanks to Chaddie for feeding us at every home game.

I had a lot of fun this year and look forward to seeing the young fellas grow into their games moreand more in season 2015/16.

GO THE KOOKAS!

So close. Losing the final was a pretty rough way to end what was an incredibly successfulyear. I have no doubt that over the course of the season we were the best side and thatwinning the minor premiership, making and hosting the final was a just reward for thelevel of cricket that we played this season.

With the exception of a few of us we were a very young side. Watching these young guysdevelop throughout the season has been a delight.

Having some more experienced cricketers in the side aswell to assist me in my first year of captaincy has beenbrilliant and I really appreciated all the input fromeveryone in the side, regardless of experience level. Itwas a pleasure to play with everybody who stepped ontothe field this year. I think that winning the minorpremiership is a big achievement, and harder toaccomplish than winning a final. I think that it is an evengreater achievement given that everybody involved is stilldeveloping and improving their games.

The standards that everyone both played and trained at this season were a big contributorto our success on the field. With this continued application there are going to be a lot offirst grade cricketers in the seasons to come that played in this side.

All season was a team effort. This showed in our batting wherewe had 9 batsmen average over 25 and also had 13 playersscore 14 fifties and 2 hundreds between them. Watching Griffindig in and score his first grade hundred was a pleasure foreverybody that got to see it and was just one example of thevalue that our batsmen placed on their wickets this season. Wewere a very difficult side to bowl out all season and showed alot of fight.

Scorer Judith Hall

Our bowling this year was similarly a group effort. 19 different bowlers sent someoneback to the pavilion over the season. Dicko, Joey and Pratty all took over 20 wickets, andall only played half a season going up and down the grades. That they were able toperform so well in difficult circumstances is a credit to them and their commitment to theclub. I believe that a lot of their success can be attributed to the people bowling at theother end as well.

I saw some of the best catches I’ve ever seen taken this year, but for every screamertaken, a ball rolled through someone’s legs (mine included). The amount of improvementstill in everybody should scare the rest of the comp, and everybody with designs onholding onto their spots in higher grades. Everyone who played this year has shown that

Page 40: Contentssouthernlakes.nsw.cricket.com.au/files/2316/files/201415... · 2015. 6. 22. · GREG HUNT T20 PAUL TOOLE 2ND GRADE AARON GRAY 3RD GRADE SCOTT MARJORIBANKS ... 27 Steve Wheelhouse

they are capable of playing at higher grades, and I look forward to seeing them achieve itnext season.

I had a blast this year and can’t wait to do it all again next time around. Hope to seeeveryone back when we kick off preseason.

Fourth Grade

What a great season. First off I would like to thank all of the guys this year for making it a veryenjoyable year, and we performed very well as a team with some great personal performances bymany players.

To show what a great season we had we only need a quick look at the team season stats. Played14 games, won 9 (1 outright) drew 2 for a 64% win ratio. Scored 2093 runs at 23.78 in 529 overswith 10 50s. Bowling we took 126 wickets at 15.69 in 662 overs with 4 fifer’s. As a captain I amalways happy with numbers like these. Also I think that our fielding was very good this season. Wedid have some sessions where we let off the intensity however by and large we were very good. The only statistic we went backwards in was 100 run partnerships with only one this season.Statistics wise the best batsmen this year was Jason Street (who did a terrific job behind thestumps as well). Jason scored 286 in 4s at 40.86. Josh Westwood averaged 90.5 in 5 innings andBlake Glennie averaged 111 in 2 innings.

The best bowler this year was probably Mitch Glennie. He didn’t take the most wickets but hehardly went for any runs and also took most of the big wickets. Mitch bowled 115 overs for 232runs and 17 wickets. Great work big man. Other notables were Scott Johnson taking 21 wickets at14.6, Cam Smith 12 wickets at 14.6, and Steff Kardamis with 11 wickets at 8.4.

This season we got off to a terrific start putting 6/313 on against Stockton at Awaba with the evergreen Greg Singleton putting on 65 and a youngster called Josh Westwood putting on 97. It was apity that Josh got called up for 3rds two weeks later, I think he would’ve made quite a few runs forme. Mitch Glennie bowled well to take 4-23. It was a sign of things to come.Next we beat Mereweather with Blake Glennie getting a late call up and making 71 not out. JoshWestwood put on 42 not out to take his average to 130 odd. Again great fielding helped us reallyrestrict the Mereweather score.

Our first loss was a close one against City at Awaba. 268 vs 259. Cam Smith got 6-70 and JasonStreet scored 76 and Greg Singleton got 54.

We had a second defeat against Ham Wicks and it looked like we had wrecked the great start tothe season. It was close with 182 vs 178 in a one dayer at Awaba. We were missing some regularsbut we had amble replacements.

Next we had the biggest disappointment of the season with a Forfeit by Wests.

Then we beat Waratah at Waratah on a difficult deck with Braden Downie taking 3/8 opening thebowling. The runs were knocked over by Westwood and Garaty. Greg was unlucky in this gamegetting a duck (Sorry Singo I had to put that observation in there).

Next up we put on 8/236 against Charlestown Awaba. Awaba at this stage was playing beautifullyfor the batsmen but this was a pretty good score against a good side. Jason Street got 78 andDownie smacked 25 at the end. We kept them to 220 but it was a tense game.

After Christmas we defeated Wallsend away outright with Scott Johnson taking 7/34 for the matchand Aiden O’Brien making 49 and Alex Matthews making 65. Next we demolished Belmont awaybowling them out for 42 with Alex Kardamis opening the bowling and taking 6/9 off 8 overs. Pity itwas a one dayer.

Page 44: Contentssouthernlakes.nsw.cricket.com.au/files/2316/files/201415... · 2015. 6. 22. · GREG HUNT T20 PAUL TOOLE 2ND GRADE AARON GRAY 3RD GRADE SCOTT MARJORIBANKS ... 27 Steve Wheelhouse

At this stage we were near the top of the table and looking like we should be there. We had tofinish strong however because there were quite a few strong sides. Next was Uni at Awaba. In 40overs we hit 184 with the enigmatic Xavier Vile scoring 71 and Jason Street chipping in with 49.They finished on 8/88 with the wickets shared. It was also the first game that Luke Garatycaptained in my absence. And from all reports did a fantastic job in this game and also thefollowing one against Ham Wicks. This game was only our third loss of the season where theybatted on a dry Hawkins oval and we batted on mud patch a week later. Steff Kardamis showedthe young fellas that he still had it by bowling 18 overs 4/36 and restricting them to 195. In replywe got to 116 in 50 hard fought overs and apparently Alex Matthews made the best 5 you will seeon a difficult pitch. Steff also top scored with 47.

In the penultimate round of the season we beat Charlestown at home. In one of our bestperformances we scored 157 in 66 over on a trying deck against a fired up and capableCharlestown outfit. Jason got 44 and Steff 52 but there were other strong performers who playedwell but didn’t necessarily get the rewards on the scorecard. In reply we kept Charlestown to 124in 65 overs through accurate bowling and good fielding. Steff took 5/31 in 16 overs but MitchGlennie’s 2/37 in 20 overs was the best I had seen him bowl and a great testament to howimproved he has been this year. The final round of the regular season was away at Cardiff and waswashed out. This left Cardiff in first and allowed us to get leapfrogged by City who took secondand left us third. This would have implications the next week but mainly it was disappointing tonot be able to test ourselves against the best team in the competition.

The semi-final against City was played at Learmonth Park. It rained all week and I knew it would bedifficult because the higher ranked side goesthrough if the game is drawn or washed out. However Learmonth was in perfect conditionand we only lost 4 overs on the first day. Some great bowling again by Mitch Glennie4/24 off 19.3 overs saw us in the game withCity posting 131. The second day saw morerain but the pitch held up really well and wehad 44 overs to score the runs. We ended upjust short at 9/118 but I was really proud ofall the guys because we were neveroutclassed the whole season and especiallythis game. Full credit to City for preparing agreat deck and playing good cricket.

Skipper Cameron Young in full flight

The whole season was played in good spirt with some great games and I really we enjoyed myself.I think we were probably on our day the second best team but sometimes these things happen. Iwould like to thank Garaty, Jason and Steff for really stepping up and being the strong seniorplayers each team needs. Also Mitch, Scotty, Cam, Xavier and Aiden really stepped up to the nextlevel this year. The young players coming through in Alex, Jake, Connor, Dan and Tom the Kookasare in great shape for the future. Thanks again for a great season guys see you next year hopefullywe can go two better!!!!

In addition I would like to thank all of the parents who helped out in little ways throughout theseason, with scoring, or picking up tea or picking me up when I had no car. It makes my life alloteasier.

Under 21’s

The campaign The Toronto’s U/21 cricket looked extremely promising from the outset of theseason. Led by Captain David McCredie, the team looked like it had the potential to push for afinals birth. Unfortunately a few of a games clashed with Representative duties and first gradegames, which meant that not once during the campaign, was the squad able to field a full strengthteam.

After a few years of having older heads in the team, there were only 3 players above the age of 18in the squad. What is exciting about this team, is that the boys were able to be extremelycompetitive even when being many years younger than most of their counterparts.

This team has HUGE potential, with many of the players having second grade cricket experiencewith many pushing for the first grade team. The young Kooka’s brigade comprising of NSW U/17Country players Peter McCredie and Griffin Lea, these boys will be hoping for further honours infuture years, which is most promising for the club.

Even though our results were not great it was an enjoyable season.

Dennis Broad Cup

It was a tricky year in the DB Cup this time around. We finished last in our group, one win off topspot and only a combination of wet weather and the NDCA’s decision not to play our final poolgame kept us out of the final. Thanks to Corey Brown for taking over the side for the second gameat the last minute.

Corey’s 81 * with the bat and the 130 opening stand with Oliver Sims (45) ensured we chaseddown a big total with four overs to spare and 9 wickets left in the shed. That was really the onlyhighlight with the bat as our other two scores were too low to be competitive although with afantastic team effort in the field we pushed Stockton to the last over.

There were a lot of positives to come out of the three games and we are definitely improving inthe T20 format. As we get more exposure and play more games we will keep improving and I’mlooking forward to next season already.

Under 15 T20 Winners

It was another great season for the boys in the U/15’s. We achieved so much during the yearplaying cricket with great performances in every game we played. Over the course of the seasonthe team played extremely well winning all but one game in the standard 15 rounds making usminor premiers and a home semi-final. We continued our ways winning the semi-final whichplaced us in the Grand Final. The result we were after in the final wasn’t to be but the boys playedtogether as a team and put in 100% to the end. This was unfortunate as we had a great seasonand wanted to finish the season on a high winning the major premiership.

Throughout the year we were involved in the U/15 T20 competition where we defeated Ham-Wicks in the final making it two years in a row for the club, hopefully the club can continue thispattern next year. I would like to thank all the boys who played in these games they allcontributed and worked as a team which was the biggest part of us being so successful.

Thanks to Mike Mackenzie for all his help and involvement in the T20 and throughout the season.Special mention to our coach Dave Appleby for consistently helping and putting up with us duringthe season at training and games, all the boys appreciate how much hard work you put in.

Thanks to ‘’Clarky’’ for preparing the wicket each week for us at Awaba we appreciate all the hardwork you put in as we wouldn’t be able to play without you doing so. Thanks to all the parentswho contributed throughout the season for the team and their sons.

All things going forward we can’t wait to start a new season and go one better next year!!!

C & S - B1 Team

The 2014-15 season had a new look for the B1 side with the majority of the team new to the club.

The challenge was to get everyone to work together as a team, this happened very quickly.

With the new players, the team had a consistent look each week. This allowed the players to knowtheir roles within the team. The team suffered by the lack of player numbers each week, whichaffected the entire club this season.

Bowling was the strength of the team, which was led by Anthony Farrell – 25 wickets @ 14 andbacked up by Dave Nixon – 19 wickets @ 16. Dave’s season was cut short by injury and was a lossto the team. Both these figures could have been much better if the fielders had held their catches. The other bowlers that worked hard were Cameron Hoswell, Dave Jenson, Sean Scott and MichaelTantos, all of these players left their mark on the scorecard at various times throughout theseason.

Batting was where the team struggled throughout the season. The batting order was consistentlychanged but by the end of the season we were becoming more consistent. This led to the teambeing more competitive each week and we were unlucky not to beat the top teams towards theend of the season.

The mainstay of the batting was Cameron Hoswell – 347 runs @ 31. Cameron managed to get theteams only century this season. Anthony Farrell backed up his bowling with the bat and managed265 runs @ 22. Cameron’s season was stalled by work commitments which could have made hisstats even better.

The Best & Fairest was Anthony Farrell with his outstanding contributions with both bat and ballwhilst the most improved player throughout the season was Sean Scott. Sean gained confidencethroughout the season especially with the ball. This led to him being more confident with the batand his scores increased. Sean ended up taking 17 wickets @ 14, including his first 5 wicket haul insenior cricket.

The captain’s award went to Dave Jensen, who gave a whole hearted performance each weekboth at training and game day. Dave also managed not to drop a catch throughout the season, afeat he kept reminding us of.

With this season under their belt, we have a number of players that now want to play gradecricket next season. This will make our grade sides even stronger, which is a bonus for the club.

Overall it was a successful season for the team and the club and hopefully this will lead to moresuccess next season.

After last season, I can proudly say that this season was one of the more enjoyable seasons, I haveplayed in, for a long time. As the season started I strongly believed that the team we had wascapable of achieving much better results than the past few seasons, to which I feel we did onmany occasions throughout the season.

Although we may have only won three games, we were extremely competitive in the majority ofthe games this season and were unlucky not to record a few more wins. The old saying of ‘catcheswin matches’ really did apply for the first half of the season, but with the dedication the guysshowed in fixing up this problem, the catches came and so did the wins.

Being the co-captain with Arun Mukherjee, Ifeel it is appropriate to acknowledge theexcellent bowlers we had throughout thisseason. Without this excellent bowling attack,we would have really struggled and it was thebowlers that really allowed us to win the gameswe did. The bowling attack deserves to bementioned and these players should becongratulated for their excellent bowling thisseason. They include Adam Sable (who took a 5for), Connor Brady (who bowled somesensational spells without luck, includingmissing a hat trick when the Knick dropped just

Adam Sable and Egan Jones

in front of 2nd slip), Daniel Moore who always took a wicket in a spell, Tom Appleby who bowledwith real venom with no luck at all, and all the remaining bowlers who included, Arun Mukherjee,Ewan and Kenneth Cummins, Andy Moses, Brandon Piggott and Will Kirby who all bowledexceptionally well all season.

In saying that the batters are still required tochase down the runs and as such the standoutfor this season was again Ewan Cummins, whomissed the first half of the season but Ibelieved still managed to score around 300plus runs for the season. There were somegood knocks throughout the year by AndyMoses, Daniel Moore, Adam Sable and TomPayne (who contributed consistent scores atthe end of the year after buying a new bat hefinally liked). Special mention should be madeto Eagan Jones who guided us to our first winof the season when wickets were fallingaround him and kept his cool for a kid thatwas 14 years of age. He was really missedtowards the end of the season after moving toQueensland just after the New Year. Brandon Piggott and Daniel Moore

Being part of a team that worked really hard, it is only fair that all players be congratulated andthanked for an enjoyable season.

I would also like to acknowledge Arun Mukherjee who captained the team when I was unavailabledue to work commitments. Without his help and dedication, I don’t think the team would haveimproved on a week to week basis and as such should be recognised as the co-captain.

I would like to also thank all the players who did assist us from time to time when the club wasstruggling for players. They include Paul Clarke, Corey Barnes, Jake Berwick (who also bowledexceptional well), John and Hugh Cummins and anyone else I may have missed.

Special thanks to Mick who attended most games and scored for the team. This invaluableassistance allowed the senior members of the team to perform other duties.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge the management/selection committee who made the decisionto consider the C&S teams separate from the District Competition and selections to be made froma core group. This allowed us to build a good cohesive unit, and allowed us to get the results weachieved, as we were not having to have different team every week like we had last year.

On Sunday 21 September the whole Academy played an all aged game on Ron Hill Oval, it markedthe end and 9th week of a very successful preseason school. The two sides were captained byCoaches Bill Bannon and David Somerville who vetted the younger players so they had equalcompetition.

Leading up to the final week thestudents had worked hard atbatting, bowling and fielding andhad attended theory sessions ofscoring and umpiring. We areindebted to Judith Hall for herexpertise at scoring and JoeThomson for his umpiring, a bigthank you to both. Also, theplayers had participated in twoseries of fitness tests and hadimproved on the second.

The Academy numbers proved to be the highest we have experienced with 31 registrations andwith excellent Coaches we were able to teach a very good syllabus, on the down side the weatherwas not as kind as it had been in the past. Our policy of "We never close" was only helped by theuse of the Netball courts on more than one occasion. If there was cause to be disappointed itwould be the coaching of more older players who did not take advantage of the opportunity to,not only, learn more of the game, but to ready themselves for the coming season. It must beremembered that TACE is an all aged Academy.

A big thank you must go to our Coaches, Bill Bannon, David Somerville, David McCredie and CoreyBrown also Judith Hall and Joe Thomson, with a special thank you to Greg Chad for manning thecanteen.

It may have been a small number of Milo kids this season but they were a very keen andenthusiastic group. The coach, for the first time, was Corey Brown and he showed a greatdeal of ability in teaching children and demonstrated a exceptional special of coachingcricket he managed to be able to easily communicate to this younger brigade a veryspecial trait indeed.

I remember when I asked Corey earlier in the season if he was interested in taking theMilo In2Cricket program and he immediately said yes, he would do it. He was given a littlehelp from a couple of people off the field but on the field he conducted the whole program. He has a very calm nature when dealing with young children and did not seem to getflustered at all.

I want to congratulate Corey for his good work and also the following ten children whoundertook the program. Each time that I watched Corey and the kids they seemed to behaving fun and enjoying themselves. Well done Corey.

We would like to see a the participants back next year for either another round of Milo orT20 Blast which will be launched as a new format for players under 10.

Under 9’s

A great season for youngsters with a few of the boys already having a season under their belts andsome new faces enjoying their first season.

The boys played 12 games winning 10, one loss and a tie. Every game was played in the right spiritand they enjoyed their cricket immensely.

As a first time coach it was great to see the improvement in all the boys right throughout theseason. It was great to see Nathan playing his cover drives and Jamie pulling them for six, Connalwas Mr Consistency, Jordy a great wicket keeper, Austin just got better and better, Mr enthusiasmwas Sam, Matty the quiet achiever, Thomas with all the style and last but definitely not least Isaacimproved out of sight and simply loves his cricket.

I can only hope the boys can stick together for a few seasons and keep enjoying their cricket asmuch as I have enjoyed coaching them.

Thank you to all the parents for your support throughout the season.

Well done boys and I look forward to seeing you all next season.

Under 10’s

Firstly I would like to thank all the players for a great season I have enjoyed the time with them

throughout the year with lots of fun and laughs. Great bunch of kids. Secondly would like to

especially thank Bruce Jones for his help, assistance and support on and off the field and at training

every week during the year, thanks Bruce. Additionally a big thanks to all the parents whom also

made it easy for Bruce and myself supporting us and our decisions along with those that helped

scoring on match days.

Amazingly we played all 17 rounds this year without a washout and finishing up 3rd on the ladder

with 6 wins and only 1 point away from 2nd. Out of the 11 players 4 boys played every game well

done to Tom Borrow, Blade, Hayden and Cameron.

We had some close exciting games during the year winning by 1 run on an occasion enjoyed by the

players celebrating together. What was exciting for me as a coach was seeing the enjoyment in the

game of cricket along with the skill improvement in all facets of the game, knowledge and

sportsmanship shown by all over the year.

We had some great team efforts during the season one game that comes to mind is round 13 against

Charlestown we scored 1 for 164 with notable individual efforts with the bat from Tom Borrow (33

retired not out), Hayden Roberts (31 retired not out) and Cameron Mott (19 not out) while with the

ball Jonas de Winter took 2 for 3 in the same game. The season finished off with a thrilling win in

the last game lead by Thomas Kristofferson smashing 30 not out to win the game.

I hope all the players will come back next year.

The under 11's where a pleasure to coach and had an enjoyable year with new and returningplayers developing a good team spirit, sportsman/(women) ship and cricketing skills.Slightly outclassed in the graded division 1 after re-grading the team had four wins, finished offthe season with momentum some nail bitting wins and a desire to chase a total.

All aspects of the play improved throughout the season with economical bowling, wickets andfielding after the Christmas break. Translating some of the training potential to game day with theball.

Contra to the grade trend we rotated players and most weeks everybody batted and all playershave some runs for the season.

The statistics highlight some impressive individual performances. However these can only occurwith your fellow team mates. The developing team work and selflessness are the takeaways thatthe players should be most proud off.

Thanks to parents, Julie Ping (Manager) and all the players for another enjoyable year.

I hope to see you all at the T.A.C.E. to polish the skills ready for the start of 2015/16 season.

The season of 2014-15 for the Under 12’s was a year marked by some outstanding individualperformances, but this was overshadowed by a team that bonded well together and played foreach other.

It was a complete pleasure, week in and week out, to see the boys improve both not just in thetechnical side of the game, but in the way they played the game! Every Saturday, the playersprepared themselves in all aspects that they had trained so hard for during the week anddisplayed this when the time came.

The way the team played the game, was emphasised in us leading the competition most of theseason, we made the semi’s only to be beaten by a better team on the day.

In conclusion I would like to thank Chad Matthews for assisting Craig in coaching and all theparents for turning up every week to training and the game. Lastly I would like to thank the boysfor a great year and I hope to see them all again next year.

The 2014-15 season was a learning season for all the players. The players trained the same waythat the senior teams train and play. This was well received by the players and they embraced thechange.

Even though the team didn’t make the final, they won the minor premiership by 6 points. This wasan outstanding achievement in a Div 1 competition.

The team had some outstanding performances with the bat and ball.

Dylan Perry-Smith with 24 wickets led the bowling. Josh Gittins with 16 wickets, Brady McRitchiewith 15 wickets and Tim Wilson with 12 wickets were the main wicket takers for the season.

The two outstanding bowling performances were Dylan with 6 for 12 with his fast swingingdeliveries and Josh Gittins who took 5 for 7 runs with his leg breaks.

The best batters for the season were Brady McRitchie with 219 runs, Rowan Adams with 211 runsand Adam Sable with 208 runs.

Brady’s runs included twice carrying his bat through the innings, batted the entire 30 overs andbeing not out.

Rowan carried his bat once and had a top score of 74. Adam had the highest score for the seasonwith 91. He was dismissed trying to achieve his 3 figures.

The team lost Egan Jones half way through theseason after moving away. He was a big loss tothe team. Egan had already taken 11 dismissalsbehind the stumps and scored 70 runs

The 2 players that improved greatly throughoutthe year was Noah Fittler and Ryan Sykes.

Noah had a top score of 39 and took 7 wickets.Ryan’s season was cut short by injury, his greatfielding and catching were missed by the team.

Adam Sable and Egan Jones

Overall it was a very successful season for all the players and I would expect that this improvementwould continue next season. Hopeful they will go one step further and win the trophy.Bill Bannon

International Match V Afghanistan

The Toronto Workers Cricket club played an Afghanistan combination in a 35 over match atHeaton Park Jesmond late in the season, around the time of the World Cup.

Toronto Workers won the toss elected to bat on a very hot day in Jesmond, Toronto got off to asteady start until Warren Craik was caught for 12 when score was 27. Ewan Cummins was thenjoined by Jason Street and these two put on great partnership. Ewan Cummins was retired on 51.Jason was then joined by Xavier Vile and these two continued the good work. Jason was finally outcaught for 45 when score was 169. Xavier was retired on 52. Toronto managed to mass acompetitive total of 7/198 off its 35 overs. But how can I not mention youngest Josh Gittins hescored 3 and upstaged some of his older players. Best Batsmen for Toronto were Ewan Cummins53 not out, Xavier Vile 52 and Jason Street 45.

Afghanistan innings got off to a rocky start when Adam Sable removed Jawad for a duck when thescore was 4. Afghanistan woes continued in 3rd over when Brandon Piggott bowled Abdul for 4when the score was 10. Adam picked up another wicket in 6th over which then had Afghanistan3/18. Mitchell Glennie was then introduced to the attack with immediate success when had Safibowled for 3 when score was 4/30.

Then Ewan Cummins came into the attack he too picked up a wicket when he had Zahir bowled for8 when score was 5/30. Afghanistan then made a recovery until the 21st over when BrandonPiggott bowled Jalil for 19 when the score was 76. Then Afghanistan lifted the run rate untilKenneth Cummins picked up the last 2 wickets. Afghanistan finished with 8/147 off 29 overs dueto the match being stopped due to rain and lightning. Best Bowlers for Toronto were Adam Sable2/12 off 3 overs, Kenneth Cummins 2/20 off 3overs and Brandon Piggott 2/23 off 6 overs. Onecatch was taken by Ewan Cummins and one stumping by Adam Sable. Best Batsmen forAfghanistan was Nabi 51 not out.

Finally I would to thank Mark and Aaron for arranging the day. And I’m sure Toronto WorkersCricket Club will play Afghanistan again in the coming weeks.

High Tide at Ron Hill Oval after the storm, batting on another great wicket!!

J R Hill Oval

Ron Hill Oval is Toronto Workers District Cricket’s home ground and practice facility. The ground isused for all 1st and 2nd Grade matches plus other special one day games such as Country Cup, TomLocker Cup, Dennis Broad Cup, Under 21 competition and occasionally it is used for representativematches.

The ground is slowly improving and is now one of the best in Newcastle District CricketAssociation. When conditions are dry the outfield is very fast. On Saturday 7 March the wicketwas good and outfield fast and 480 runs were scored in 90 overs.

Curator Graham Jenkinson was again the curator for his fifteenth season and the wickets werewell prepared, flat and true. However Jenko resigned on 4 December 2014 and Robert Hollandtook over as caretaker curator who was appointed curator in February 2015.

Ron Hill Oval was aerated by LMCC in September and shortly after they sprayed the oval with aninsecticide to kill bugs and beetles and also an herbicide to control broadleaf weeds.

The equipment is all in good order. In December we had some problems with the roller andCameron Young did a temporary repair. Eventually a new part arrived and we had Richard Best, mechanic, install it. The roller went well for the rest of the season.

We had the blades of the Masport mower sharpened and after that it cut very efficiently. There isstill a problem with the depth of cut.

The practice wickets were very good especially after Christmas.

Andrew Nicolai found the wicket at Ron Hill Oval to his liking for the trial against Blacktown Cricket Club on 20September 2014. At the end of his innings of 49 he hit four consecutive sixes.

Second hand roller purchased for $6000 for Awaba Oval - the old one died. This roller is exceptional and has a vibrator.

Awaba Oval was very wet at the start of the season. The photo shows Roger Black, Paul Clarke and Arun Mukherjee whomowed the whole oval with their Victa lawnmowers to allow it to dry.

Note the old dead roller in the background – sold for scrap.

Tulkaba Park

Note a fair bit of grass on the wicketindicating that Curator AnthonyDuggan is doing a great job.

Anthony spent hours each week toprepare the wicket and as the seasonprogressed he got more and moregrass to grow. By the end of theseason his wickets were very good.Well done Anthony.

Rathmines Oval

The ground is very good for juniors in that it is very fast. We replaced the synthetic grass surfacewith material that we got from Newcastle Hockey Centre. We had the synthetic Grassprofessionally laid by K&M Sports Nets from Arcadia Vale.

Finnan Oval No 1

The Toronto Awaba Junior Football Club has been improving the outfield and it is very nice andlush now. The Blackalls Park Community Operating Committee replaced the synthetic grass aboutChristmas because the old was worn and had started blowing up at one end in strong wind.

The cost was $2980 and NC&SCA and NJCA both contributed to the cost.

Finnan Oval No 2

This ground with a very old and worn concrete wicket is not in use. LMCC has agreed to the wicketbeing removed and a new one installed between the small sided soccer fields. LMCC will do thework but it is several years away in their budget.

Todd Street Oval

This oval is very good for junior cricket despite the fact that it slopes west to east. Vandals burnttwo holes in the synthetic grass and we decided to remove the grass and replace it with materialfrom Newcastle Hockey Centre. The work was undertaken by K&M Sport’s nets and is very goodfor the kids using the ground.

Two rolls of synthetic grass from Newcastle Hockey Centre on back of Ute to be transported to Waterboard Oval. Thereis enough synthetic grass in the two rolls to put synthetic on four cricket wickets.

Toronto No 2 Oval

This ground is used by Under 9s and despite it often being wet it is quite suitable for this agegroup. The Under 11s did play there a couple of times during the season and some shots were hitout onto the road.

The synthetic grass was old and a patchwork quilt and we replaced it with synthetic grass from theNewcastle Hockey Centre, laid by K&M Sports Nets.

New synthetic grass on Toronto No 2 Oval installed in September 2014.

Croft Oval

Because we only had 8 junior teams this season Croft Oval was not used. There was a seriousdrainage issue at the ground where water laid at the northern end of the cricket wicket and theBlackalls Park Community Operating Committee had a subsoil drain installed from the end of thecricket wicket to the west to a drain.

The ground seemed to dry up very well but the trench subsided about 100mm and we had it topdressed. It again subsided about 50mm and it will be top dressed again about 12 March 2015 so itis safe for the soccer season.
