Dear Lord,

Through the darkness, I look for your wisdom.

I want my heart to be open to you.

But sometimes in these days, it seems that

so many things come between us.

Help me to be awake and aware

of the radiance you bring to my life.

Help me to be grateful each day

for the blessings of family and friends.

Let me be a peacemaker

in my own life, and in the world.

Let me pray especially for this difficult world

and those who are so in need of an end to violence.

My heart begs for this as my Advent prayer today.

May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring

us to everlasting life. Amen.

“Where three or more are gathered in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20

December 4, 2016

Dear Parishioners,

In this Second Sunday of Advent, St. John the Baptist preaches

repentance, not to scare us into holiness, but to prepare us for Jesus,

the One Whom our heart has been waiting! In case you missed our

communal Reconciliation at St. Joseph the Worker, Wed., Nov. 30,

6:45 pm, plan to make either Wednesday, Dec. 7, 9:30 am or Dec.

14, 6:30 pm at St. Columbkille.

Let us make haste to be ready to receive Jesus on Christmas Day!

Advent Blessings upon you,

Fr. Gabriel

Vocations Corner—December 4, 2016

The Vocations Committee invites you to pray for Vocations, especially those to Priesthood

or Religious Life!

Are you being Nourished? Just about everyone loves ice cream, cheesecake,

cookies (especially when they’re right out of the oven and the chocolate chips are

all gooey!) soda, and anything else that is loaded with sugar! These things make

you feel happy, and they can certainly fill you up, but the one thing that they lack

is nutritional value! In other words, at the time that we are face to face with

goodies, they seem wonderful, but in the long run, they aren’t as good for us as

other more wholesome and balanced good choices.

A lot of times when we define ourselves with our friends, hobbies, likes and

dislikes, it can be easy to want to have fun and to seek pleasure and fulfillment.

Like going to a buffet and heading straight to the dessert table. But as great as it

seems on the surface, deep down, we know that arranging our lives in this way will

only result in an upset stomach or heartburn. In fact, maybe many of us right

now are suffering from spiritual heartburn! Our hearts long to be nourished by

the food that gives us life rather than just a brief moment of pleasure.

Just as each individual has specific foods that are optimal for their personal

health, the same is true of our spiritual lives. We need to go to the Lord and ask

Him to show us what meal plan constitutes a balanced diet for each of us. If you

want to be in the best spiritual shape of your life, go to God and ask Him to show

you His plan for you. That is how you can assuredly be nourished.
