The Presentation of the Lord February 2, 2020
It had been revealed to Simeon by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord….There was a prophetess, Anna, who gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem. Luke 2: 22-40
Today’s Solemnity of the Presentation of the Lord (celebrated 40 days after Jesus’ birth) celebrates the challenges and joys of family. We all have such hopes and dreams for our children and we all know too well that life can be cruel to dreams and that fragile hopes are easily shattered, and we want to protect our sons and daughters from such realities. We want the best for our children, and Joseph and Mary confront those same hopes and fears in today’s Gospel. Every parent’s life is “pieced” with turmoil, disappointment, illness, desperation, and fear. Certainly every mom and dad know what Mary and Joseph went through. We want our sons and daughters to embrace and be embraced by the love we have known and seek to know better. We want them to be grasped by the hand of God who has grasped us by the hand. It is as a family that children can best experience that love in their lives. The most important gift we can give them is this—faith in the God who made them, faith in the God who loves them, faith in the God who will be with them on their road to eternity.

Catholic Charities 2020 Annual Appeal The 2020 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal will take place next weekend in our parish. Please refer to the insert in this week’s bulletin which includes our parish’s goal and an overview of the importance of Catholic Charities in our communities. This year’s appeal is Faces of Hope. Your generous support will transform the lives of others, to offer dignity, possibilities and companionship to those who are most vulnerable. As in the past, an in-pew commitment process will take place next weekend, February 8th & 9th. All who have not received the mailing from Bishop Perez, or have not had a chance to respond to it, will be asked to consider making a generous pledge to support the ministries and services provided by Catholic Charities. If you have received the mailing, please respond generously to it and we ask you to also complete the in-pew envelope and indicate by checking the box that you have responded by mail. We invite you to view stories of inspiration and more information at: CatholicCommunity.org/2020Appeal.
