BMO COMING TO CF TEC

OUR ONE AND ONLY PLANET

Beginning in 2016, in anticipation of Earth Day’s 50th birthday celebration in 2020, organizers began to spotlight environmental challenges that needed urgent attention.

In 2016, the global theme was Trees. The goal was to plant 7.8 billion trees over 5 years. In 2017, the theme focused on environmental and climate literacy. The theme for Earth Day 2018 is equally ambitious and urgent, focusing on creating awareness and changing behaviors surrounding the use of plastics in every area of our lives and in reducing global plastic pollution.

Will spring ever get here? That seems to be all people are talking about as we close in on May with ice storms and gray skies. This past January we proved that there is a tonic for beating the winter blues….all you need are puppies! January is always a challenging month. With the fun of the holiday season a fading memory and spring an eternity away, if you’re not careful, the winter blues can set in. So much so that the Monday that falls mid-January has been dubbed ‘Blue Monday’, the most melancholy day of the year. At Cadillac Fairview, we didn’t like the sound of that so we decided to do something about it. We set-up Puppy Parks in the office lobbies of CF TEC, TD Centre and RBC Centre to help distract our tenants from the January blues by taking a cuddly puppy break and having a cup of coffee on us.

Unfortunately, the CF Puppy Parks are closed for the season, but you can battle still the icy April blues by cuddling with your pooch or visiting the local Humane Society.

Our Blue Monday pilot program was inspired by the Centre for the Addiction and Mental Health’s (CAM-H) pet therapy program. As part of this initiative, CF donated $5,000 to CAM-H’s pet therapy program.

CHANGING TEMPERATURES

On April 2, we launched our new Destina-tion Management elevator system at 250 Yonge Street, more commonly referred to as destination dispatch or destination orienta-tion. After months of planning, installation and patience from the occupants of 250 Yonge, going live proved to be a great suc-cess. The new lobby touchscreen keypad system used to select a designated floor and then direct users to their assigned elevator, was highly effective and well received.

Exactly what is Destination Management?Elevator systems respond to input from the users in the form of a push button actuation. The user presses an up or down button at the landing and when an elevator arrives, the user presses a destination floor button in the elevator car.

Destination Management systems are different. The user, instead of pressing an up or down button at the landing, selects the desired destination floor from a keypad or a touch screen. The system receives and

responds to this input consisting of both trip origin and trip destination.

System Benefits:q The new system is provides the elevator control computer with more information, meaning that the computer knows that a call has been registered at a particular floor and how many calls have been registered and to which floors. More information results in greater precision.

p Greater precision means that the computer will assign “duplicate” calls to one elevator. For example: if an elevator is designated to travel to floor X, then it may be given a preference to answer any other floor X calls in its line of travel. In the case of multiple calls and multiple choices, the computer will instantly decide to where to go for optimal efficiency.

At Cadillac Fairview, we’re committed to en-hancing the CF TEC client experience wherever possible. Stay tuned.

DESTINATION MANAGEMENT A SUCCESS AT 250

Nothing short of amazing!

Each Spring, as the outdoor temperatures warm, we adjust our Building Automation System to effectively respond to the seasonal temperature change. This year, with spring arriving late, we have had to adjust the timing of the change over, but our objective remains the same: to gradually switch from heating to cooling, maintaining a temperature range within all office premises that is comfortable and constant as recommended by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). During this expected 3 to 5 week transition period, as daytime temperatures steadily warm while evening and early morning temperatures remain cool, indoor office temperatures can fluctuate., requiring fine tuning on daily basis. As always, our goal is to do everything possible to achieve a comfortable tem-perature balance during this seasonal change over.

Our automated system is calibrated to address both humidity and temperature requirements conforming to the highest standards set by the industry. We operate our properties to achieve a temperature range of 21-23°C (69-73°F). Although, during the Summer months, when out-door temperatures peak, we keep air-conditioned offices slightly above that range to minimize the temperature discrepancy between indoors and outdoors. Our objective is to achieve a comfort-able temperature range at all times and maintain a humidity level that is healthy, comfortable and safe.
