Investigation work proceeding as planned

Two months into the study, the Central Kowloon Route Investigation consultants are now busy pouring over building plans, street maps and records of underground services of Kowloon. They are looking for new alignment options for the CKR.

For each option, it will be necessary to examine its impacts and requirements. For example, we have to assess how an alignment will affect the living, working and leisure activitiesof nearby communities, and how it will fit into the existing road network. These factors will be important in the selection of a preferred alignment later.

We have already started consultation activities to inform concerned parties about the progress of the study and to collect their views. The Stage 1 Public Forum this month is one of the major events.

According to the study programme, we hope to proceed with the design of the route next year after we have identified a preferred alignment that is generally supported by the community.

Issue No. 2, November 2007

To assess the Social Impact by the project on the Yau Ma Tei District, and to examine the Local Culture of the District, we must have a good understanding of the area first; and the best way to understand the area is to take a walk around. Our first tour was targeted at the night market in Temple Street which ended up as a fruitful one. Not only did we experience the unique local culture, we also had a taste of delicious local snacks. We will let you know more about our tour in the forthcoming issues.

There are many buildings of great heritage value in Yau Ma Tei near Waterloo Road. Amongst these, the Yau Ma Tei fruit market is about one hundred year old. The adjacent Yau Ma Tei Theatre was once the biggest theatre in Kowloon. The Kwong Wah Hospital is the first hospital set up in Kowloon. Apart from these, the Yau Ma Tei Police Station is also an important historical building.~Å ÆÊ˪ÌÍ £Î
