    INTRODUCTION

    Welcome to General Instruments CFT-2100 set-top terminal, your

    connection to cable entertainment. The CFT-2100 features an easy-to-uson-screen display system to view channel listings, set channel controlpasswords and many other options that will enhance your television viewThis guide introduces you to the CFT-2100 and provides instructions forup and operation.

    Key Description

    1 F Displays the Quick Functions menu. To use quick functions:

    Press F and then press MUTE to set the best stereo level volume (press VOLI orJ to return to normal)

    Press F and then press DELETE to clear favorite channel settings

    Press F and then press SELECT to cancel an Impulse Pay-Per-View event Press F and then press CATV to display the sleep timer screen (for complete instructions see the section,

    Timers)

    Before proceeding, read the steps for disablingand restoring the remote control.

    Disabling the Remote Control

    You can temporarily disable your remote control:

    1 On the main menu, select 7 CONTROL PANEL.

    2 Select 2 DISABLE REMOTE and then press ENTER.

    3 A confirmation screen appears on the display screen and the letterrLo are displayed on the front panel LED.

    Restoring the Remote Control

    Press any key on the front panel of the CFT-2100 to restore the remotecontrol.

    Installing Batteries

    Before you can use the remote control, you must install two AAA (1.5-voalkaline batteries:

    1 Press the battery cover on the back of the remote control and slideopen.

    2 Insert two new batteries in the direction indicated on the inside of battery compartment.

    3 Replace the battery cover.

    If the CFT-2100 does not power on, check the orientation of the batterieor replace with new batteries.

    BASIC OPERATION

    NOTE

    The on-screen display is set on a 15-secondinternal timer. If you do not complete yourselection before timing out, you must start again.Read the instructions before beginning.

    Using the On-Screen Display

    The on-screen display contains easy-to-use menus for operating yourCFT-2100.

    There are three main menus that enable you to access other screens. Whinstructed to access the main menu always press MENU to display the first

    menu. Press CURSOR vorw or press PAGEvorw to navigate through themenus.

    Changing Channels

    You can change channels in three ways:

    Use the number keys on the remote control. For example, to chanto channel 10, press 1 and then press 0.

    Use the CHANvorw to step through the channels.

    Use the Channel Guide for a list of the channel numbers and name

    Adding Favorite Channels

    You can store your favorite channel numbers for quick and easy access.

    To add favorite channels:

    1 On the main menu, select 3 FAVORITE CHANNELS.

    2 Select 1 FAV CHANNEL GUIDE.

    3 Press CURSOR vorw to highlight the channel you want to add to thfavorite channel list and then press SELECT.

    4 Press DISPLAY to exit.To quickly add a favorite channel, press the channel number you would lito add and then press PROG.

    Tuning Favorite Channels

    To tune a favorite channel, press FAV on the remote control. Continuepressing FAV to step through all of your selected favorite channels.

    Adding Passwords

    The parental control and the Impulse Pay-Per-View features enable you tcontrol channel access using a password. You can create a differentpassword for each. You can lock and unlock channels at anytime.

    To create a four-digit password (for example, 1234):

    1 On the main menu, select 7 CONTROL PANEL.

    2 Select 4 SET PASSWORDS.

    3 Select 1 PARENTAL CONTROLor 2 PAY-PER-VIEW.

    4 Enter your four-digit password using the remote control and thenpress ENTER.

    5 Verify the password by entering the same digits again and thenpress ENTER.

    Tuning Channels with Parental Contro

    To tune a channel locked by the parental control feature:

    1 Tune to the channel you want to watch.

    2 Press SELECT to access the Unlock Box Password screen.

    3 Enter your four-digit parental control password and then press ENT

    When you unlock a channel, all channels are accessible until they are locked agA key icon displays when the channel is unlocked.

    To re-lock channels:

    1 On the main menu, select 2 PARENTAL CONTROL.

    2 Select 2 LOCK BOXto lock channels.

    3 Begin normal operation.

    Impulse Pay-Per-View is an optional feature that enables you to purchase

    special programming without a phone call to your cable service provider.You can control the purchase of programs by setting a password.

    To purchase Impulse Pay-Per-View events:

    1 Tune to the channel broadcasting the Impulse Pay-Per-View event.

    2 When an E flashes on the front-panel LED, press SELECT to purchasthe event.

    3 Enter your Impulse Pay-Per-View password and then press ENTER.

    To cancel the purchase, press F and then press SELECT. If you cant cancel

    event, call your cable service provider.

    When you use the CFT-2100 to record programs on your VCR, the remcontrol is automatically disabled to prevent accidental changing of channe

    The remote control is restored when the recording process is complete.

    The sleep timer feature enables you to program the CFT-2100 to turn ofafter a preset amount of time.

    3 Press SELECT to highlight either 30 MIN, 1 HR, 2 HRS, 3 HRS, orDISABLE (to stop a timer that has previously been set).

    Press PAGEvw to navigate through the message

    Press MENU to go to previous page to read other messages

    4 Press DELETE to erase a message.

    Changing the Background

    You can change the appearance of the on-screen display by changing thebackground.

    The two selections that can be changed are MENU (on-screen display) anSTATUS (Channel Guide and Channel Lock screens).

    To change the background:

    Moving the Screen Display

    You can customize the location of the display on your TV screen.

    To move the screen display:

    The AC outlet feature enables you to turn your TV and CFT-2100 on and

    at the same time. To use this feature, insert your TV electrical plug into tAC outlet on the back panel. This feature is set to SWITCHED OUTLETthe factory. To disable, you must change the setting.

    Restoring the system to default settings erases all of your selections for

    screen appearance, screen position, optional time display, and AC outlet It does not erase passwords or reset timers.

    The default settings are:

    A black box for the on-screen display appears in the lower center othe screen

    The channel number appears on the front-panel LED

    The AC outlet is set to SWITCHED, controlling both the TV andCFT-2100

    To restore default settings:

    1 On the main menu, select 7 CONTROL PANEL.

    2 Select 5 RESET DEFAULTS.

    3 The system is reset to default settings and exits.

    Problem Possible Solution

    The remote control is notresponding

    Check for an obstruction between the remote control and the CFT-2100.

    Check that the batteries have been installed properly and replace with new batteries if necessary.

    Check if the remote control has been deactivated.

    There is no sound coming

    from the TV

    Check to see if the sound has been turned down.

    Press MUTE on the remote control to restore sound.

    The word MUTE will not appear when the system displays:

    Active Menu screens

    Event screens

    Credit screens

    Parental control screens

    The CFT-2100 is notreceiving a cable signal

    Turn on your TV only to see if you are getting a video signal. If you are not, call your cable serviceprovider.

    Check that the cables are securely connected.
