WELCOME It is a privilege to present the 2019/2020 season of Sacred Music in a Sacred Space. Now in our eighth season, we are proud to bring some of the finest musical offerings to Hampton Roads.

This summer, the Choir represented Norfolk on its fifth international tour. During our first week in scenic Wells, England, we sang services in the historic Cathedral Church, dating to the 12th century. We then headed to St. Martin-in-the-Fields in busy London for Choral Evensong. After sightseeing in London and Paris, we sang at the American Cathedral and the church of St. Eustache in Paris. We thank you for your prayers and support!

We are proud to continue offering excellent music in our beautiful space. Our Parish Choir and Choristers go from strength to strength — in addition to Sunday services and major church festivals, there are chances to hear them in concert, including our Remembrance concert on November 3 and our Advent Lessons & Carols on December 1.

We are thrilled to have our organ back after a 15-month restoration project — it sounds better than ever! We are grateful for your support, which will make this instrument accessible for future generations. If you haven’t had a chance to hear it, international concert organist Nathan Laube will be here on September 13 to play it in grand style.

Finally, we continue to strengthen our community bonds by offering our space to local musicians, including the Virginia Chorale and the Norfolk Chamber Consort. This year, we are pleased to offer concerts by the U.S. Army School of Music and the Men’s and Women’s Glee Clubs from the U.S. Naval Academy. With the military presence in Hampton Roads, I cannot think of a better collaboration for our community.

We hope that you will enjoy this season’s offerings and support our mission to offer Sacred Music in a Sacred Space!

Kevin Kwan Organist & Director of Music

FRIENDS OF MUSIC Joining the Friends of Music is a great way to support Sacred Music in a Sacred Space. Parish members and non-members alike are invited to contribute to the operating costs of running a series of this scope. Ticket sales and free-will offerings alone cannot finance the series. Contributions from Friends of Music are therefore vital to continuing our tradition of excellence in presenting great sacred works performed by our Choirs as well as by distinguished visiting artists. Please consider making a donation to this annual fund, benefitting both the parish and the wider community. Contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent provided by law and may be made in memory of family and friends.

Please make checks payable to “Christ & St. Luke’s” and write “Friends of Music” in the memo line.
