Greetings Hylanders,
We’ve had a great and
eventful year so far and
I’m proud to be a
Hylander!
We have some exciting
things coming up in No-
vember and December
and we want to make sure
that you’re aware of them.
We have some important
testing coming up in No-
vember that has a signifi-
cant impact on your stu-
dents’ future at CHHS and
beyond. You can learn
more details about that on
page 3 of this newsletter.
I also want to highlight the
scholarships that we have
available to our seniors on
page 2. Please encourage
your students to take ad-
vantage of these great
opportunities for financial
support.
In December we have Life-
touch coming in to take
our seniors’ photos for the
yearbook. There are more
details coming closer to
the photo sitting days, but
take a look at page 2 to
learn more about it today.
I also want to draw your
attention to a very im-
portant group of people
that I hope you will consid-
er becoming involved
with.
We have a Parent Advisory
Committee (PAC) that
meets once a month at
the high school to make
sure that our families are
engaged with what is hap-
pening with their students
here at CHHS. They also
work to build a bridge be-
tween families and staff by
supporting our staff with
wonderful things like serv-
ing dinner before confer-
ences.
The next PAC meeting will
take place from 6-7pm on
November 10th at the high
school and we hope that
you will consider coming
to check it out. It’s a great
way to be involved in your
students’ education.
Remember to keep it REAL,
Dan Wrobleski

We’re introducing an exciting
new opportunity to our Seniors
for their yearbook photos this
year!
Lifetouch photography will be
coming out to CHHS on Decem-
ber 3, 4, and 10 to provide
each of our seniors with a 10
minute sitting for Senior photos.
These are the photos that will
be used for seniors in the 2016
yearbook so each student
must have a sitting on one of
these days. Students will also
have the opportunity to pur-
chase photo packages if they
would like.
During their 10 minute sitting,
each senior will go to three dif-
ferent cameras, which will end in
10 different poses instructed by 3
different photographers.
Before students leave the sit-
ting, they will be given a sneak
peek proof sheet to take home
with information for ordering.
We are confident that this will
be a great option for our stu-
dents’ personal senior photos if
they choose to use this oppor-
tunity in that way, and that we
will be able to improve the
quality of our yearbook as well.
Please watch for details as the
dates get closer. We’ll be sure
to keep you informed and
make sure that you’re ready for
your senior photo shoot!

port them through the applica-

Winter activities and athletics
are off and running. We have
One-Act Plays, Robotics, Key
Club, Future Problem Solving,
Knowledge Bowl, Chess Club,
Math team, Basketball, Dance,
Wrestling, Boys’ Swimming, and
Gymnastics. We have plenty of
activities to get involved in so
please take advantage of them.
Research has shown that stu-
dents’ GPA’s rise when they
participate in athletics or activi-
ties.
We have great advisors and
coaches to serve your children.
The activities department offers
students the unique opportunity
to develop their talents beyond
the classroom through practice,
to learn sportsmanship through
competition, and to display
leadership through team. In Co-
lumbia Heights Public Schools,
we believe extracurricular activi-
ties promote lifelong student
success.
Important Information about Upcoming Testing
Activities and Athletics with Mr. Miller
The ACT PLAN test is a state-wide
test that will be given to all sopho-
mores on November 11, 2015. The
purpose of this test is to identify
how students are doing in four core
subjects; English, Math, Reading,
and Science. It will also give rec-
ommendations for areas to im-
prove in order to be better pre-
pared for the ACT college en-
trance exam that will be taken in
their junior year. This is a timed ex-
am that is required for admission
into many colleges and universities.
Students will take the PLAN test,
along with a career interest survey
in their advisory.
All sophomores at CHHS will take a
reading exam called the Optional
Local Purpose Assessment (OLPA)
in their English classes during the
month of November.
All juniors at CHHS will take a math
exam called the Optional Local
Purpose Assessment (OLPA) on No-
vember 11, 2015. Students will take
the OLPA exam in their advisory
classrooms.
The purpose of the OLPA tests is to
provide practice for students who
will take the Minnesota Compre-
hensive Assessment (MCA) in the
spring, which is required for gradu-
ation. The results from each of
these exams will be used by our
English and Math teachers to learn
how they can better serve our stu-
dents in their classrooms.
We are excited for this opportunity
for our students to showcase what
they have learned as we know
their scores will reflect their hard
work.
Please support your students by
ensuring that they have a good
night of rest the evening before the
test and come prepared to give
their best effort. If you have any
questions, please call the main of-
fice at (763) 528-4601.

Howdy Y’all!
It’s almost that time of year again.
The time when everyone breaks
out their overalls and matching
flannel shirts to kick up their heels
at the Sadie Hawkins Dance!
Make sure you don’t miss all of the
down-home fun on Friday, Novem-
ber 20th! The party will get started
at 8:00 pm and won’t be over until
11:30 pm so you’ll have plenty of
time to get hitched by Marryin’
Sam for $1.00 and then get di-
vorced for another $1.00.
You’ll also have the opportunity to
put your friends in jail for only $1.00!
If they want to get out, they have
to pay the jailer $1.00...or find
some kind soul to give them a kiss!
Concessions will also be available.
Tickets cost $8.00 in advance and
$10.00 at the door. Grab all of your
friends & get ready for a great
night! All proceeds raised the night
of Sadies’ will be used toward the
Junior/Senior Prom.
See you at Sadies’, Y’all!
All of our CHHS Bands and
Choirs have been working hard
to put together a fall concert
that you won’t want to miss!
On Monday, November 16th,
you have a chance to come
and enjoy the fruits of their labor
at the combined Band and
Choir Concert that will take
place in the PAC at 7:00pm.
The concert will conclude with
a combined performance of
the bands and choirs, over 150
musicians on stage! Donations
to the music program
