ORIENTATION Meeting

PRIOR to the Orientation meeting, the parent-guardian / learner must carefully review and complete all information, and be in compliance with all expectations , including, but not limited to, dress code, grooming, and supplies. Learner is prohibited from attending and / or participating in school-sponsored and / or school-related activities, and prohibited from being on school property or within 300 feet of school property / at a school-related or school-sponsored activity / off campus during the term of placement in DAEP. This restriction applies until the learner fulfills the DAEP assignment at this or another school district.

Criminal Trespass Sec.30.05. Texas Penal Code

A person commits an offense if (s)he enters or remains on property or in a building without effective consent and (s)he :

(1) Had notice that the entry was forbidden (2) Received notice to depart, but failed to do so. “ Notice ” means: an oral or written communication by the principal or

someone with apparent authority to act for the principal. “ Property ” means: public school campuses or grounds upon which the school is located, and any grounds used by the school for assemblies or other school sponsored activities.

You have been duly warned to stay off all school property, including Coppell Independent School District campuses. If you are reported on any campus and / or within 300 feet of school property, other than CISD Victory Place @ Coppell, Compass, which is located at 550 N. Denton Tap Road, Coppell, TX 75019, at any time within the placement period at Compass, criminal trespass charges will be filed with the local police department.

COMPASS DAEP DRESS CODE

All learners are held responsible to follow the dress code everyday. Violations will be documented on the Success Sheet.

Dress Code Expectations: ● LEARNERS MUST BE IN FULL COMPLIANCE OF DRESS CODE AT THE TIME OF

ORIENTATION TO BEGIN PLACEMENT. ● Good hygiene and clean, neat clothing is expected at all times. No stains, rips

tears or holes in clothing. ● ID BADG E : ID badges are to be worn at all times while on all CISD secondary

campuses for security reasons. ○ Learners must bring their ID badge to orientation . A lanyard will be

provided which will be the only lanyard allowed. ○ ID badges will not be taken home and are to be kept at school. They will

be returned at the Transition Meeting upon completion of placement. ● SHIRTS : Solid white polo style shirt.

○ You may purchase the white polo shirts for $18 each from VP@C pending size availability if you choose. (SchoolPay link: https://schoolpay.com/pay/for/Compass-and-Turning-Point-Students--Polo/MdMK )

○ Solid white short-sleeve or long-sleeve t-shirts may be worn underneath for warmth. Solid white sweatshirts may also be worn for warmth. Sweatshirts can not have zippers, pockets or hoods. No hoodies.

○ Undergarments must be white or beige and not able to be distinctly seen through the polo shirt. ○ Shirts are to remain neatly tucked in at all times.

● SLACKS : Khaki dress slacks/dockers (not khaki jeans)

○ No additional pockets- only 2 front and 2 back pockets that can be pulled inside out. ○ Slack size may be no more than one size larger than the natural waist size and must be pulled up to the normal

waist. Slacks may not be fitted tight to the body. ○ No cuffs or rolling up of pant legs is acceptable. Hem of pants must not be frayed or drag on the floor. ○ No shorts or leggings may be worn under slacks.

● BELT : Black or brown simple, dress belt required. Only traditional dress buckles are allowed.

● HAIR :

○ Hair must be clean, controlled and kept close to the head. ○ No mohawks, spikes or decorative designs may be shaven into hair. No notches in eyebrows. ○ Bangs may not cover the face or touch the eyebrows. Hair bands and clips may be worn to keep out of face. ○ Long hair must be pulled back in a ponytail (close to head).

● SHOES : Lace up tennis/athletic shoes of any color ○ Socks are required of any color. ○ Laces must be properly tied and ends secured. ○ Pant legs are to be worn over the tops and not tucked in or behind the shoe tongue.

● MISC/ACCESSORIES :

○ No makeup is allowed. ○ No nail polish on hands or toes is allowed. Nails may not extend past the tip of the fingers. ○ No exposed tattoos or body markings including writing. All inappropriate items should be covered or removed ○ No jewelry including watches, tongue rings, earrings or piercings.

COMPASS EXPECTATIONS

ATTENDANCE: ● If your learner will be absent and not using the morning bus, you must call VP@C (214) 496-8032 and the

CISD Transportation Department (214) 496-8090 by 7:00 AM. ● Learners must be present in attendance a minimum of 5 instructional hours and have an excused absence for no more

than 2 hour maximum in order to be eligible to earn a successful school day. ● Learners are required to arrive to and leave from school via the bus .

BUS:

● Learners are expected to be at their bus stop 10 minutes before the assigned pick-up time. ● CISD bus transportation policies will apply, as well as the Compass expectations. ● Learners will be supervised on the bus by the driver and often a monitor. A discipline report will be submitted

daily and any misconduct will be reflected on the Success Sheet. ● Learners may not bring any materials with them on the bus unless prior approval by an educator has been

obtained (including items such as pens/pencils, cell phones, lip balm, & combs). ● ONE house key on a small, plain key ring permitted. ● May bring an empty , see-through, non-spill water bottle to fill at school - take home on Fridays to clean.

LUNCH :

BEHAVIOR: ● All electronic devices are prohibited (including cell phones) and will result in failure to earn the da y. Items

will be confiscated and only a parent may pick-up. ● Learners will submit to a physical search, as well as an electronic metal detector security check. Right to

search- Compass reserves the right to search learners at any time to maintain campus safety. All learners will be subject to a pocket check as well as a metal detector search. K-9 searches will occur randomly on campus.

● Practice appropriate social skills at all times (Yes Sir, No Ma’am, Please, Thank You, etc.). ● Walk with at least double arm length between other learners with hands behind back at all times when out

of your seat. Hands must be on top of the desk at all times when seated. ● Raise your hand to make all requests. Do not speak until you are given permission to do so. ● Ask for permission to get out of your seat. ● Sit using professional posture- sit up with feet flat on the floor in front of you, no slouching or leaning on

your arms/hands/desks/station walls. ● Learners are not to communicate with other learners in any manner unless authorized and supervised by

educators. ● PROHIBITED FROM ATTENDING OR PARTICIPATING IN A SCHOOL-SPONSORED OR SCHOOL-RELATED ACTIVITY,

WHETHER THE ACTIVITY IS ON OR OFF CAMPUS. Violators may be arrested for Trespassing. ● Serious offenses may result in expulsion to the Dallas County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program,

commonly known as JJAEP and / or arrest.

INSTRUCTIONAL: ● Arrive at the Orientation Meeting with required supplies of spirals and kleenex. ● Complete all daily assignments/homework/activities as deemed acceptable by the instructor. ● Take thorough notes from the e2020 lectures/lesson activities. Support will not be provided by Educators

until a good-faith effort has been made by the learner to take quality notes ● Participate appropriately in all classroom activities including Physical Wellness, book studies & counseling.

MISCELLANEOUS: ● Parents must hand deliver all prescribed and/or over the counter medications in their original container to

the front office and complete a Medication Administration Form in order for staff to administer medication. ● Keep food service account up to date or the learner may not receive meals. ● Compass learners are not eligible to receive Verification of Enrollment (VOE) forms for the purpose of

obtaining a driver license as they do not meet the qualification requirement of the district. ● Complete all daily assignments/homework/activities as deemed acceptable by the instructor. ● Success sheets will be emailed home daily. Our assumption is that you receive them and review them unless

we are notified otherwise.

EXIT MEETING: ● A few days prior to the final placement day, notification will be sent home regarding a Transition Meeting

date and time. A parent is required to pick up their learner from VP@C and attend the meeting at the home campus at that designated time. Attendees will include staff from both VP@C and the home campus to assist in communicating any needs or concerns and establish a plan for a successful transition back.

ANY VIOLATION OF ANY OF THE RULES WILL RESULT IN DAYS NOT EARNED, DAYS ADDED TO PLACEMENT, SUSPENSION, EXPULSION, ETC. COMPASS HAS THE AUTHORITY TO USE THEIR DISCRETION IN ENFORCING THE STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT SHOULD A SITUATION ARISE THAT IS NOT SPECIFIED BY THESE EXPECTATIONS. BECAUSE OF THE MANY CHANGES THAT OCCUR DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR REGARDING INTERPRETATIONS OF THE TEXAS EDUCATION CODE, THIS PLACEMENT PACKET IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT WRITTEN NOTICE TO LEARNERS AND PARENTS. HOWEVER, DUE PROCESS WILL BE OFFERED TO LEARNERS WITH REGARD TO ANY CHANGES. LEARNERS MUST COMPLY WITH THE NEW REFORMS. 2
