when we go on a missionsence its easy to serve withea that we are going tobut we often forget the

orming work that Jesus doesown lives as we serve. Wecited to see God at work ines of the Mexican people,ne of our goals is that peopleome on a C-Quest trip wouldme transformed. Check outof the testimonies fromr trip team members:

people from Mexico havet me true joy as well asude. They show amazingnts of respect to each other,ir land and history, and to

e is a lot I have learned fromeople that we have had thege of encountering here ino. To them, people are more

MEET THE BURNS FAMILYThe Burns Family serves with C-Quest inProgreso, Mexico

Tell us about your family. We are an ordinaryCalgary family. Back home Derek worked as anelectrician, Julie worked in IT, and the kids wentto a Spanish bilingual school. We enjoy spendingtime as a family, playing games, working onprojects, swimming and exploring. Emily and Troygo to a local school in Progreso. Working in the

heat takes some adjustment as does learning to communicate in a newlanguage. We attend a local church and watch sermons from CentreStreet Church, our partner church from Calgary, online.

Why did you decide to move to Mexico to serve with C-Quest?When I was a little girl I prayed every night for years, God, please dontmake me a missionary, anything else, but not that. Now I know God waspreparing my heart, even then. We feel God used so many moments tolead us to Mexico. In 2010, we went on a short-term mission trip to Tepic,

Mexico. When we got home we felt that things had to change in ourlives. We needed to downsize, simplify and build community.

What has been the best thing about being in Mexico? The weatherand the beach are amazing! Its also great to spend more time with ourkids as they are done school at 1:00. Our joy however comes in seeingGods people work to share His love in this community. We love seeingthe changes in people as they come down for missions for the first time.We also find joy in the support weve received from friends, family andpeople we hardly know.

Whats the weirdest thing youve eaten? That would have to betamarind. Its kind of a legume but they make popsicles and candies outof it. Next up is guanabana, which is a fruit that is ripening on our counterright now. We hear its delicious.

What has God been teaching you lately? Patience. Living in Mexicorequires patience with our expectations. We need to be patient withourselves as we learn, as we try new things, and as we try to accomplishprojects. We have to keep trying and get back up when we fall down.
