In-revisin- g our tariff laws and re- ducing customs revenues some in- terests should not be neglected. Indeed, protection to our manufac- turers and laborers can' and should be afforded by taxing only such im- ports as come into real competition and admitting others free.. No one disputes that the xepublicsn party w in favor of thus affording protec- tion to our domestic industries. Revenue laws should be enacted with reference to our local condi- tions and wants. We should legis- late in the interest of our own pe'b-rath- er than the interest of mankind at large. Judge Gresham. Who is Your Beet Friend. Your stomach of coarse. Why? Because if it is out of order yoa are one of the most miserable creatures living. Give it a fair honorable chance and 6ee if it is not the best friend yoa have in the end. Don't smoke in tho morning. Dont drink in the morning. If yoa most 6moke and drink wait till your stomach is through with breakfast. Yoa can drink more and smoke more in the even- ing and it will tell on yoa less. Justices Bradley, Field and Harlan dissented, while Justices Gray and Lamar did not sit in the case, so that the decision stands four to three in favor of the Bell company. The court finds that no evidence was adduced show- ing that Bell obtained inside in- formation from the patent office relative to other inventions, thus clearing the patent office and the patentee from the charge of fraud and collusion. The dissenting mem- bers of the court base their opinion on Drawbaugh's telephone inven- tion, they claiming that the evi- dence shows overwhelmingly that he was the first inventor of the speaking telephone, although not cognizant of the value of his inven- tion. This point, the decision holds was not sustained by the evi- dence. ' How Men Die. If we know nil the methods of approach adopted by an enemy we are the better enabled to ward off the danger and postpone tho moment when surrender becomes inevitable. In many instances the 'inherent strength'of the body suf- fices to enable it to oppose the tendency toward death. Many, however, have lost these forces to such an extent that there is little or no help.. In other cases a little help to the weakened lungs will make all the difference between sudden death and many years of useful life. Upon the first' symptoms of a cough, cold or any trouble of tho throat or longs, give that old and well, known remedy Boschoe's German Syrup, a care- ful trial. It will prove what thousands 6ay of it to be, the "benefactor of any home." y-- vyrvvv would enjoy your dinner J j and are prevented by Dys- - pepsu, use Acsers dyspepsia uaaieis. A young lady who' has been teaching school at Columbus, Kas., for some time, and wlio was the belle of all the country lying round about, has distinguished herself in an unusual manner. After she had "moved in the best society" until all the voung men in town were wondering how they would act if they were married to her. it was finally discovered that she had been for a year the corresponding secre-ta- rr and business manager of the most extensive gang of thieves in the west. The organization em braced horse thieves, various styles or burglars, several murderers and other choice malefactors, and their doings were all directed by Miss Blalock, the heroine spoken or. .The long contested Bell ttele-

phone case lias at last been decided, the' United States supreme courthaving affirmed the validity of-- theBell patent.. Justices Bradley,Field and Harlan dissented, whileJustices Gray and Lamar did notsit in the case, so that the decisionstands four to three in favor of theBell company. The court findsthat no evidence was adduced show-ing that Bell obtained inside in-

formation from the patent officerelative to other inventions, thusclearing the patent office and thepatentee from the charge of fraudand collusion. The dissenting mem-bers of the court base their opinionon Drawbaugh's telephone inven-tion, they claiming that the evi-

dence shows overwhelmingly thathe was the first inventor of thespeaking telephone, although notcognizant of the value of his inven-tion. This point, the decisionholds was not sustained by the evi-dence.
