DescriptionThis package contains the HP StorageWorks XP Hardware Providers software for Windows.

The hardware providers software works with the Microsoft Virtual Disk Service (VDS) and Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to enable Windows applications to manage HP StorageWorksXP storage systems and create shadow copies of HP XP storage system volumes.

Installation InstructionsIf you are installing the hardware providers for the first time, proceed with the installation normally.

If you have a previous version of the hardware providers installed, then remove the previous providerversion using the Windows Add/Remove Programs Control Panel. Alternately, the installer willautomatically remove the previous installations of the hardware provider software. Before removingthe hardware providers, issue a net stop VSS and/or a net stop VDS command from thecommand line.

You must install HP StorageWorks RAID Manager Library before you install the hardware providers.If you do not, the providers will install but will not function. For information on RAID Manager libraryversions, see Prerequisites on page 4 .

There are two installers for the hardware providers: HP_StorageWorks_VDS_VSS_Hardware_Provider_XP_v7_01_00_x64.exe HP_StorageWorks_VDS_VSS_Hardware_Provider_XP_v7_01_00_ia64.exe

NOTE: Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core and Windows Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 run only on x64servers.

For installation instructions, see theHP StorageWorks Hardware Providers for VDS/VSS installationguide (T1634-96089, November 2009). The guide is included with the installation software packageand provides detailed installation and configuration instructions.

Compatibility/Interoperability For the VSS Hardware Provider, if any XP volumes are imported, they will be imported into ALLof the XP Host Groups that contain a WWN of an HBA configured in the server. This could be anissue if you use HBAs from different vendors, since the different vendor HBAs may have differentdriver parameters.

NOTE:This may cause a failure if the multipath software tries to failover I/O from one vendor type HBAto another vendor type HBA. HP recommends using only like vendor HBAs in a server to avoidthis potential issue.

VDS Hardware Provider software running on Hyper-V Guest OS and VMware VM will not providemultipath (MPIO DSM) related information and will not perform multipath operations.
