– Group Directions:• Break into 4 groups (Org, PR, Engagement, & Communications)• Check that each group has at least 1 youth and 1 adult • Harmonize and capture the group thoughts and rank the
recommendations 1-x for each topic workshop• All but facilitator will rotate to each topic area for a total of 4 workshops
– Facilitator Directions:• Each group will have a facilitator to keep the conversation moving• Participate fully in the conversation and exchange of ideas• After the first “workshop”, brief the incoming group on the top
recommendations which were part of the discussion and start the next round of conversations
• Identify with the group the top recommendation from each “workshop”• Be prepared (with help from the group) to present the top 3-4
recommendations at the end of the day from your topic area (15 min.)

Next Steps• Continue to share information from CA 4-H Future
Task Force broadly with the youth, adult volunteers, and staff
• Be positive and speak in terms of opportunity and collaboration using the attached talking points
• Continue to solicit ideas and recommendations and forward to Andrea E Henderson ([email protected])
• Drive Excitement, Engagement, and Momentum for 4-H’s Evolution into the Future
• Shannon will send out an email and create a subcommittee which will determine a meeting date in January
• FTF will have a follow-up call in March on updates from the sub committee and any continuation plan
Talking Points• The Future’s Task force met to discuss preliminary recommendations
on the areas that had been identified across the state as the top areas of opportunity to make the best better for the future of 4-H.
• The areas which were discussed were 4-H Public Relations, Communication, Engagement, and Organization which were identified and validated as the top priority areas of interest in all of our state-wide conversations to date.
• We had 4 workshops which introduced some preliminary recommendations to improve these areas in our organization,
• It became clear from our discussions, to support any efforts in the organization further discussion on the organization structure would be beneficial.
• As an outcome, a sub committee of the FTF will be formed to further explore potential organization models.
• The goal is to look at the current structure and alternatives to determine what might best meet the needs of the members, volunteers, and supporters to position 4-H for continued growth the next 100 years.
• We are still requesting additional recommendations and the survey tool will remain open until March 10th or a electronic recommendation form can be submitted to Andrea E Henderson ([email protected])
• The recommendations we reviewed are attached in word. Some recommendations have been consolidated to avoid duplication.

Organization:The CA 4-H organization is complex and has multiple areas which have become unintentionally siloed. If the organization is able to reorganize to best meet the growing and changing needs of the members, volunteers, families and supporters; the organization may be in a better position to help 4-H grow for the next 100+ years.Funding: Continue to build a stronger case for support; reduce costs for youth participation; and increase resources.4-H Public Relations:4-H is more than agriculture, it’s more than cows and cooking. There is a desire to increase awareness, visibility, outreach and participation in the program. Development of a 4-H PR plan and associated marketing materials is needed. Engagement: Build and improve relationships with members, potential members and volunteers, and external advocates; increase knowledge of programs/opportunities; recruit and retain more members and volunteers; and increase diversity of youth and volunteer participants.Communication:Increase communication across the 4-H organization, share opportunities across sections, and improve the flow of information.
