ABEND S878 AFTER MANY WSS LOGONS
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
A REXX control block in storage is not freed when a user
disconnects from Workstation Server (WSS). Hundreds of
thousands of connections and disconnections can lead to an
S878 abend of Workstation Server (WSS).
This fix ensures that the REXX control block in storage is
freed upon disconnect of a user.
SYMPTOMS:
Workstation Server (WSS) abends with code S878.
The associated dump shows that hundreds of thousands connections were
made to Workstation Server (WSS) and a huge amount of storage is
occupied by REXX CRXPB control blocks.
IMPACT:
Workstation Server abends with code S878.
CIRCUMVENTION:
Restart Workstation Server more frequently.

DO NOT GENERATE DUMP FOR SOME VSAM OPEN REASON CODES
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When ESP tried to open a VSAM file and received
return code 8, it always treated it as a severe
error and generated an SVC dump to help diagnose
the problem. However, it may not be always necessary
or convenient to have this dump. For example, for
authorization failures only error messages are
useful. Authorization failures can happen on
Workstation Server when an unauthorized user is
requesting a report. An SVC dump of WSS is not
necessary and confusing here.
For the following VSAM OPEN reason codes, a dump is
not generated now:
152 - Authorization failure
177,178,179 - Open rejected due to VSAM sphere
conditions
180 - Wrong VSAM catalog is specified in JCL
229 - Initialization is already in progress.
For this error IBM recommends OPEN retry.
ESP will retry up to 5 times before generating
a dump and returning with RC=8
SYMPTOMS:
An SVC dump is generated by WSS each time an unauthorized user ?????
IMPACT:
Unnecessary dumps are generated, resources are wasted,
users are confused.
CIRCUMVENTION:

ESP MAIN TASK ABEND U2902
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
ESP abends with U2902 when an NJE job comes via TCPIP connection to an
MVS subsystem and the first 4 characters of the NJE job name matches
the MVS subsystem name. The fix correctly classifies the NJE job
name as opposed to the MVS subsystem name.
SYMPTOMS:

connection to an MVS subsystem.

SCHEDULE STATEMENT OVERDUE PARAMETER NOT WORKING
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
An event's SCHEDULE statements can specify the
OVERDUE parameter that defines how many event
triggers that were missed while the event was on
hold should be retriggered when the event is
released. By default, this number is equal to 1 and
the maximum that can be specified is 10. However,
due to an error, the actual number of re-triggered
events could be higher than the value specified by
the OVERDUE parameter, and even higher than the
absolute maximum of 10. This PTF fixes the defect.
SYMPTOMS:
ESP accumulates more pending event occurrences than
specified by the OVERDUE parameter, explicitly or
implicitly. When the event is browsed, the list of
pending occurrences can be seen as a list of EXECPEND
statements. When the event is released, all these occurrences
will be triggered.
IMPACT:
After being released from hold, an event can be triggered
more times than intended.

XCF START TRACE ABEND S0F8-04
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
If an XCF START TRACE command is issued in page mode to a
zIIP enabled subsystem, an abend S0F8-04 will occur.
SYMPTOMS:
Subsystem abend S0F4-08.
IMPACT:
Subsystem outage.
CIRCUMVENTION:
When subsystem is zIIP enabled XCF START TRACE command can
only be safely issued from ESPPARM initialization file.

EVENT ADDING DAILY
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
If any time-frequency keyword (for example hourly, daily, weekly) in a
SCHEDULE statement for an event is not specified and simultaneously a
day of week is set (for example Friday), the word 'DAILY' is
automatically added to the SCHEDULE statement after the event is
triggered or scheduled. When this fix is applied, the 'DAILY' keyword
is added correctly only to applicable SCHEDULE statements.
SYMPTOMS:
The word 'DAILY' shown with a weekday combination causes confusion
over the real time-frequency of event scheduling.
IMPACT:
There is no scheduling impact only confusing information is displayed
when an event is browsed or edited.
CIRCUMVENTION:
None.

INCORRECT LINE SIZE IN TSO WITHIN A STARTED TASK
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When ESP is invoked in a TSO environment created by a started
task, the line size is set to 0, causing incorrect formatting of
the command output.
SYMPTOMS:
In an STC, VTLIST always splits the variable display to the second line:
A= +
'1'
B= +
'2'
IMPACT:
REXX code that reads the command output breaks when moved from batch to
an STC.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
An 'ESP CALENDAR' command coded in an application within JOB scope
is meaningless since at the point of command execution, scheduling
criteria are already resolved.
A new message ESP2783E is issued in simulation to inform about it.
ESP2783E CALENDAR COMMAND WITHIN JOB SCOPE HAS NO EFFECT
SYMPTOMS:

command within a job definition.
IMPACT:
Job selection may differ from expected.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When USERMOD 190 is on, the IJ (Insert Job) command
issued in the CSF main panel results in error 190E
(ENDJOB missing). This happens when an inserted job
becomes due for processing. ESP generates an internal
definition for such a job without the ENDJOB statement.

RESPONSE TRUNCATED
---------------------------------------------------------------------
There can be a problem with restarting a job
which generated large amount of dynamic
allocations during its run. It can happen
that the subsystem request extension runs out
of space and the following error message is
issued :
"ESP ENCORE UI Service error -
The response for this request is truncated
because space ran out in the subsystem
request extension"
This fix allows more space to be allocated
for the subsystem request extension when
necessary and also it extends the maximum size
of the EXH record to avoid the error.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM RESOLUTION:
Apply the following PTF to the system.
Warm restart CA ESP Workload Automation subsystems.
Restart Workstation Server started task and
Workstation clients.
TSO users reenter ESP sessions.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Using CSF and Application Monitor extensions written in REXX can
occasionally result in TSO S0C4 abend. This problem occurs only if
the extension has keyword ISPF specified in the CYBESCSU member.
The ISPF keyword invokes ISPF services under a separate TCB and if
there is a shortage of space during processing of the extension, the
additional space is obtained under the TCB used by ISPF and not from
the TCB used by ESP. When the extension finishes its processing,
the obtained space is deallocated, but the

Don't generate dump for some VSAM reason codes
---------------------------------------------------------------------
When ESP tried to open a VSAM file and received
return code 8, it always treated it as a severe
error and generated an SVC dump to help diagnose
the problem. However, it may not be always necessary
or convenient to have this dump. For example, for
authorization failures only error messages are
useful. Authorization failures can happen on
WorkStation Server when an unauthorized user is
requesting a report. SVC dump of WSS is not
necessary and confusing here.
For the following VSAM OPEN reason codes dump is
not generated now:
152 - Authorization failure
177,178,179 - Open rejected due to VSAM sphere
conditions
180 - Wrong VSAM catalog is specified in JCL
229 - Initialization is already in progress.
For this error IBM recommends OPEN retry.
ESP will retry up to 5 times before generating
a dump and returning with RC=8

ESP MASTER'S CHECKPOINT MAY FILL UP DURING THE STARTUP
---------------------------------------------------------------------
There could be a situation when the checkpoint data set of
the master is filled up by the XMEs from the proxies, if
the proxies are started before the master. It may
cause a dead lock between the application and the
tracking managers, when the application manager needs
to wait for checkpoint space, while the tracking
manager waits for the application manager to complete
its initialization.

When a job with JOBID=0 is selected in CSF

After applying the fix the Encore restart panel

STARTRAK PROBLEM PRODUCT NAME: ESPWA PROBLEM NUMBER: 1360

Enable filtering by TAG and SUBAPPL in LSAR
---------------------------------------------------------------------
LSAR command will accept two new optional
parameters, TAG and SUBAPPL:
TAG{(tag1 {tag2} ...)}
SUBAPPL{(subappl1 {subappl2} ...)}.
The values of tag1, tag2, ... and subappl1,
subappl2, ... are used to restrict the LSAR report
to records with matching tag and/or subappl fields.
Wildcard characters, hyphen and asterisk, are
accepted. An empty value or a value containing a
delimiter must be enclosed in quotes:
SUBAPPL('')
TAG('MONTHLY JOBS').
Filtering by TAG/SUBAPPL is available in all types
of LSAR reports. When TAG and/or SUBAPPL is coded
in an LSAR command for a regular or a PROJECTED
report, the corresponding column is added to the
report output. Specifying TAG/SUBAPPL without
values adds the attribute to the output without
additional filtering.
The FORECASTING ACTIVITY dialog (option S from the
main entry panel) will also accept the new
parameters.

Monitoring for manual jobs with JCL errors
---------------------------------------------------------------------
When a manual job is tracked by a TRACKDEF definition
that specifies a model where MONITOR group or
generic monitor events are defined, that manual job
must trigger those monitor events. However, when
there was a JCL error for a manual job, it did not
trigger the monitor events. This fix implements processing
of monitor events for manual jobs with JCL errors.
