My family sometimes visits relatives in Puerto Rico at the

holidays. During our visit, we would go deep into the

mountains to buy a "special lechon" for our Christmas dinner,

which was usually ordered weeks in advance. ("Lechon" is

a charcoal slow-roasted pig.) The car trip was about an hour,

which gave us a chance to talk and catch up with each other.

Then came the excitement of choosing the pork that will be

one of the highlights of our special feast. It is one of the many

special memories of my life. I hope each of you has such a

special memory -- and I wish you all experience many more!

Natalie Fuentes Hernandez- My favorite family

tradition is getting up really early to open presents

with my kids and nephew on Christmas morning.

I also like to bake my favorite holiday dessert,

which is “Chewy Fudge Brownies”. You can find

Jeff Sinnock- Every year, my family takes a trip through

town, and we call it "jingling". Everyone takes a set of

bells with them, and we drive around town when it gets

dark to look at the Christmas lights and decorations.

Every time we see a home or business that is nicely

decorated, we stop and jingle our Christmas bells.

Jackie Edmondson- My family has been collecting Frosty

Ornaments from Hallmark since 1982, so every year my

children pick a new one for the collection and we decorate

the Christmas tree while having eggnog and cookies, and

listening to classic Christmas songs from the 40’s.

Stephanie Cabanas - This

amazing melt-in-your-mouth

cookie is a special holiday

memory for me. My Mom

would make her mother’s

recipe for these cookies and cut

them into Christmas shapes.

Then my sisters and brother

and I would have fun

Dorothy Graves’ Shortbread 1 lb. butter, 1 cup icing sugar

2 cups flour, 2 cups corn starch

Have butter soft, mix all ingredients together well,

flatten out and cut into fun holiday shapes. Bake until

light brown at 300 degrees, about 20-35 minutes.

para mí de las fiestas. Mi mamá

hacia la receta de su madre por

estas galletas y cortarlas en

formas de Navidad. Entonces mis

hermanas y mi hermano y yo nos

divertirse decorando con colores

guinda y rocía. Nosotros todavía hacemos peticiones especiales para mamá que la

hagan, incluso ahora que estamos todos crecidos!

Dorothy Graves' Torta Dulce 1 libra de mantequilla, 1 taza de azúcar en polvo

2 tazas de harina, 2 tazas de almidón de maíz

Tener mantequilla blanda, mezclar bien todos los

ingredientes, aplanar y cortar en formas divertidas de

fiestas. Hornear hasta que se doren a 300 grados, unos

20-35 minutos.

de campanas con ellos y nos dirigimos por la ciudad cuando

oscurece a mirar las luces de Navidad y las decoraciones.

Cada vez que vemos una casa o negocio que está bien

decorado, paramos y tintinear nuestras campanas de Navidad.

Jackie Edmondson- Mi familia ha estado recogiendo adornos

de Frosty de Hallmark desde el 1982, así que cada año mis

hijos escoge uno nuevo para la colección y decoramos el árbol

de Navidad al tiempo que el ponche de huevo y galletas, y

alrededor de una hora, lo que nos dio la oportunidad de hablar y

ponernos al día con los demás. Luego vino la emoción de la

elección de la carne de cerdo, que será uno de los puntos

destacados de nuestra fiesta especial. Es uno de los muchos

recuerdos especiales de mi vida. Espero que cada uno de ustedes
