NEW DELHI, Dec 8:

Actor Jacqueline Fernandezon Wednesday appeared beforethe ED here for a fresh round ofquestioning in a money launder-ing investigation involvingalleged conman SukeshChandrashekhar and others.

The agency will record thestatement of the 36-year-oldactor under the Prevention ofMoney Laundering Act(PMLA), officials said.

She has been grilled by theEnforcement Directorate (ED)earlier at least twice in this caseduring which she was also con-fronted with Chandrshekhar.

The agency suspects she is a"beneficiary" of the proceeds ofcrime allegedly generated byChandrashekhar after coningand extorting money from some

high-profile people.Her spokesperson had earli-

er said she was testifying beforethe agency as a witness.

"Jacqueline Fernandez isbeing called to testify as a wit-ness by the ED. She has dulyrecorded her statements and infuture will also be completelycooperating with the agency inthe investigations.

"Jacqueline also categorical-ly denies alleged slanderousstatements made about relation-ship with the involved couple,"the spokesperson had said in astatement in October.

The ED, on December 5, hadstopped Fernandez from flyingabroad through the Mumbai air-port.

The agency asked her toremain in the country as shemay be required to join theprobe.

The Sri Lankan-origin actorhas been questioned by the EDin multiple sessions in connec-tion with the over Rs 200 croremoney laundering case beingprobed against Chandrashekharand his actor wife Leena MariaPaul.

The agency last week alsofiled a charge sheet before aspecial Prevention of MoneyLaundering Act (PMLA) courthere and namedChandrashekhar, his wife andsix others.(PTI)

NEW DELHI, Dec 8:

The Union Cabinet today approved the continuation of PradhanMantri Awaas Yojana (Rural) for another three years to providefinancial assistance for the construction of the remaining 155.75lakh houses under the scheme.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters at a press briefingon decisions taken by the Union Cabinet that the scheme has beenextended beyond March 2021, and till March 31, 2024.

The total target is to construct 2.95 crore 'pucca' houses.The total financial implication for construction of the remain-

ing 155.75 lakh houses is Rs 2,17,257 crore, with a central share ofRs 1,25,106 crore and a state share of Rs 73,475 crores for achiev-ing cumulative targets of 2.95 crore houses in rural areas, an offi-cial statement later said.

"The continuation of the scheme till March 2024 will ensurethat the remaining 155.75 lakh households within the overall targetof 2.95 crore houses would be provided assistance for constructionof pucca houses with basic amenities to achieve the objective of'housing for all' in rural areas," the statement said.

As of November 29 this year, 1.65 crore PMAY-G houses havebeen constructed out of the total target of 2.95 crore. (PTI)
