CABOT UMC NEWS May 19, 2020 “A community of faith striving to be Spirit-filled while experiencing Christ’s limitless transformation through relationships, worship and service.” Based on the Arkansas UMC conference recommendations, we’ve still got a little time before we can begin to meet together. In the meantime, we’ll be planning and preparing for your safe arrival as the Body of Christ reunites in the near future. We encourage you to continue your online small groups or Bible studies and don’t forget about our Sunday morning 10am worship experience on the Cabot United Methodist Church YouTube channel. Once we do begin to reconvene, it’s going to be different. We will all be expected to follow safety recommendations which means our worship experiences are going to be altered in some way. Our goal moving forward is not to recreate what we used to have. It’s to develop something new that allows people to experience the love of God, the peace of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit in a safe and healthy environment. Not everyone in our faith community will feel comfortable returning at first and that’s okay. We don’t want people feeling guilty just because they’re not ready to be in groups of people. And we certainly don’t want our “at risk” population returning too soon. I say all this because I want you to know that we miss you and love you, and we’re looking forward with great anticipation to reopening but we’re going to be smart, cautious and methodical (Methodist) about our return. This situation is very fluid, and we are simply responding to the recommendations and guidelines suggested by our Governor and Bishop. The size of our congregation makes this challenging but God willing, we will be together soon. Together on the journey, Bro. Stephen CABOT UMC NEWS

“A community of faith striving to be Spirit-filled while experiencing Christ’s limitless transformation

through relationships, worship and service.”

Based on the Arkansas UMC conference recommendations, we’ve still got a little time before we can begin to meet together. Our Men At Work have still been busy building wheelchair ramps for people in need. This ramp was built for an 89-year-old

woman in Ward whose daughter and caregiver were struggling to get her up and down the steps of their home. Thank you, guys, for all you do!

The Chancel Choir “Care-a-van” Round 2! What an adventure for the 9 cars and their occupants as they wound their way through the streets of Cabot,

Austin and Ward to “lay eyes” on some dear church members! We miss you!

Our church office has resumed their normal business hours of 8:00AM-

4:30PM Mon-Thurs., and 8:00AM-Noon on Fridays. Don’t forget that we

still have a drop-box installed outside of the main church office entrance for

you to drop off tithes & offerings, paperwork, cards, etc. if you don’t wish to enter the building.

You must wear a face mask if you need to actually enter the church office for any reason.

Please contact us at 843-3541 if you have any questions or needs.

Our church office and CDC will be

closed on Monday, May 25, in

observance of Memorial Day.

Ozark Mission Project has made the difficult decision to suspend our in-person camp

programming for summer 2020 in order to keep our camp participants safe from the

COVID-19 pandemic. However, OMP is announcing a FREE, alternative virtual camp

experience, OMP Connect, from the safety of your home. This camp is available for

campers who complete the 4th-12th grades by June 1, 2020.

Campers will join OMP for a week of fellowship as we incorporate neighbor care,

worship, construction, and more. Our vision is to keep campers connected with

each other and their communities and learn the ways that God’s love is constant,

even amid the current pandemic.

OMP Connect will take place during the week of June 8-12. Even if you did not yet

register for camp this summer, you are still invited to take part in OMP Connect. We've

extended the registration deadline to Monday, May 25. You can register for OMP Connect by

filling out this form: https://form.jotform.com/200993786631162. You will need to register as an

individual/household. We will not be registering everyone together as one church/group.

ATTENTION: Current 4th-12th Graders (those who

will complete 4th-12th grades by June 1, 2020)

Remember, YOU are eligible to attend OMP

Connect this year – and it’s FREE! Please see details

below. Don’t miss the FUN!

Remember the story of Old Mother Hubbard? Trying to place a food order with

the AR Food Bank brought that story to mind when Linda Powell went to order food for our CUMC Food Pantry: the cupboard was bare. If you are willing and able, the Food Pantry is in desperate need of the following items that will need to be purchased and brought to the church. If you cannot get to the church during regular office hours (Mon-Thurs 8:00AM-4:30PM and Friday 8:00AM-

Noon), please contact Linda Powell at 501-258-0373 and she will make arrangements to meet you. This church has been faithful to keep our Food Pantry opened with your generous financial gifts, but now we need you to shop for us if you can. Please stay safe. God Bless. Corn Peas Green beans Macaroni and cheese Saltine crackers Canned fruit Corn muffin mix Spaghetti noodles Personal hygiene products (soap, toothpaste/toothbrushes, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant)

New Children’s Worship Video links are posted each

week – one for 3 different age levels –

preschoolers, 1st-4th Graders and 5th & 6th

graders! These links can be found on our church

website on the “Children’s Ministry Information” page under the “Children’s

Ministry” tab on the main menu. Children & families are invited to watch these

together each Sunday!

Children’s Sunday School classes are being held by Zoom each week as well – ECA (Nursery), Pre-Schoolers, 1st-4th Graders (Rotation) and Root 56 (5th & 6th graders). These classes are led by some of our faithful teachers and are enjoyed by children as well as the leaders! It’s not quite the same as meeting in person, BUT it’s always so good to see many smiling faces! Watch for an email late each week with the Zoom links for these classes. If you are not receiving these emails, please just let Darlene know! Thank you!
