INTRODUCTIONMy name is Chloe Fong and this portfolio isa demonstration of the CAD work I have doneover my rst year at the University of Brighton .

It consists of CAD models of some of the nal prod-ucts as well as initial development ideas to the threeprojects:Things, Light and Shade, and Blue Skies .

The models are made of Solidworks andRhinoceros 5.0, rendered on Keyshot.

All designs are my own except for a model ofKay Aplins tile and a Amazon Kindle USB charg-er, where design rights and/or trademarks be-long to their respective companies/persons.

THINGSThis project consisted of three elements:Form, Surface and ProportionWe explored asthetics of objects,there was no requirement for fuction.

Form was to design an object that would tthe dimensions of a 45x45x60 cuboid , touch-ing all six faces.The design had to incorpo-

rate a square, an elipse, a triange and a circle.Surface was tile design emphasis on tes-selations if the pattern was repeated.

We were to asked to keep all but one the di-mensions of a given object and change

only one proportion for the proportion task.

Form Twist

This rst idea consists of the lofts of the four specifed shapes.

Ideally it would be made of transparent plastic, but as the briefspecied MDF , this idea was not taken forward.

USB is increasing becoming an everyday object as it is thestandard for chargers, external storage and data transfer.

ProportionGolden RatioThe golden ratio is deemed to be the most aesthetically pleasing, I

made a CAD model of a USB with golden proportions to see if thiswas true . It looked very simular to the original model .

Kay AplinKay Aplin is a Brighton based Scottish tile de-signer. She specialises in ceramic tiles for out-door spaces and has been commisioned to

do pieces ranging from playground installa-tions to gifts for the royal wedding. All the tilesshe produces are handmade in her studio.

Light And ShadeLight and shade was a group project done be-tween myself and Claire Ellison. The brief wasto design a light paying particular attention of

mood lightingand sustainably. The Client wasan online company who required the light to beflatpack into an A4 envelope for easy shipping.

The Cube Skeleton

This concept was inspired by molecular structral models used foreducation . The tubes would have LEDs within it and the balls atthe end would connect the light together to create cubes. All the

element could be dissasembled and packed within an envelope tobe shipped, the balls would also come in a variety of colour.

Blue SkiesBlue skies was an open project which we couldnd our own briefs for. It focuses on the fu-ture of design and how products would look inthen. By looking at current trends, we were todesign , without limitations of current technol-ogy, a product that would be t for the future.

The nal product I chose to submit wasan interface design project which could notbe made on CAD. The following is delvel-oped intial idea for the D&AD awards 2013.

Perfume Bottles for

lartisan Parfumeur.Lartisan Parfumeur is a botique perfumery inParis. They wanted designs for a new range offragrances inspired by emotions. In the future,packaging should not only be for one of the vesenses, but should incorprate all the senses.

The bottles for the company at the moment are justglass pentagonal prisms. The idea is to engage theusers visual senses as well as olfactory senses.

The following concept objecties the essenceof each scent and encases it into a bottle, re-ponding to their key word bottled emotions.
