    Introduction to Creo parametric 2

A powerful software used to create complex designswith great precision. Once you understand the feature-based, associative,

and parametric nature of Creo parametric, you can

appreciate its power as a solid modeler. To make the designing process simple and quick this

software package (CAD/CAE tool) has divided theprocess into different modules:

Sketching using the basic sketch entities. Converting the sketch into features and parts. Assembling different parts and analyzing them. Documenting the parts and the assembly in drawingviews.

Feature-based nature Feature: the smallest building block. A solid model created in Creo is an integration

of number of such building blocks. Each feature can be edited individually to bring

in the desired change in the solid model. This property provides greater flexibility to the

    parts created.

    Feature-based nature (Example)

    5/25

Feature- based nature (Example) In a non feature based software package in

order to change all the outer counter boreholes to drill holes keeping the central counter

bore hole, BCD same and to change thenumber of holes from six to eight; you need todelete the entire part and then create a newpart as per the new specifications.

Creo can do this by just modifying some valuesin some part.

    An advantage: Yes or No

    6/25

Bidirectional Associative Property Ability to ensure that if any modifications are

made in a particular model in one mode(Sketch, Part, Assembly, Drawing, etc), then

those modifications are also reflected in thesame model in other modes.

Parametric nature The features of a part become interrelated if

they are drawn by taking the reference of eachother.

You can redefine the dimensions or theattributes of a feature anytime.

    The changes will propagate automatically

throughout the model, they developrelationships among themselves. Parent child relationship (will be handled in

    more detail in part modeling)

    Important definitions

Parameter: A numeric value or a word thatdefines a feature. For example all dimensions insketch are parameters, and can be modified atany time.

Relation: an equation that relates to entities.Weak dimensions and weak constraints: are

    temporary dimensions and constraints and

appear in light blue color, and areautomatically applied to the sketch, and canalso be removed from the sketch without anyconfirmation from the user.

    13/25

    Important definitions

Strong dimensions and strong constraints: appearin dark blue color, and are not removedautomatically. All dimensions added manually

to the sketch are strong dimensions.

Before starting the work, set the working

directory for better organization of files, otherwise the object file will be saved to thedefault directory. (Select working directory fly-out)
