DECL Concerns (August 8, 2013)
I. Department: -Improvement of Philippine regional literature classes >according to some CL majors, they learn nothing from their regional lit classes (“too chill”) -more interactions between the majors (through events such as lectures and workshops) -priority in DECL major subjects
II. Facilities -Cleaner CRs -Street lights in the Vanguard area -Wi-fi in CAL (not just in the atrium) -Free printer >demanded by most of the students >one suggestion: printer in the CAL lib -Working projectors >we really need projectors that work -Elevator
III. Other Comments: -“DECL rocks” -“Love DECL (parang ayoko nang umalis)” -More DECL parties -Awesome grad party and yearbook please

st Department of Art Studies General Assembly
September 3, 2013 A.Y. 2013 – 2014 Prepared by: Isabella Del Catillo Representative to the CALSC, Department of Art Studies Account of the Proceedings On August 16, 2013, presently enrolled students of the Department of European Languages (DEL) were invited to take part in the first of its kind Departmental Assembly, a venue that gives them the opportu-nity to speak out and be heard out. Spearheaded by the Department Representative with full support and cooperation from the five department-based student organizations, the CALSC and the department administration, the occasion ultimate served to allow the students to address their issues and concerns that may have to do with DEL, the student council, the college and the university registration process, and the basic social services they offer. To provide, therefore, a context of the actual college and university condition of the above-mentioned subject matters, the following people and offices have been invited to deliver lectures and presentations that may dispose pertinent information:
The Office of the Student Regent (OSR) A representative of the Student Regent discussed current university provisions on STFAP, student
loan and the role of the OSR in upholding the rights and protecting the welfare of UP students. The Basic Social Services Committee of the University Student Council (BSS-USC) Incumbent USC Councilor John Paulo delas Nieves, head of the BSS Committee discussed ser-
vices of said nature that students are entitled to during their stay in the university. These include dormitory application, access to different university offices and the likes.
The CALSC CALSC Chairperson John Toledo presented the results of a recently conducted survey by the coun-
cil that deals primarily with the enrollment/registration process in the college. It provided an un-derstanding of the student’s perception of the registration process and proposed solutions that may prove helpful to the reduction of problems that beleaguer the process.
The Department of Art Studies Chairperson DAS Chairperson Prof. Cecilia Dela Paz sat down to address the students of his plans for the de-
partment as its new head.

On access to Botor Library Main points: the need for a librarian or a faculty that regularly stays in the library; the lending
and borrowing of books and resources Directed to: Prof. Manarpaac Response: Prof. Manarpaac went to ask the students about the time periods they usually go to
visit the library, to which majority responded during the afternoon. He promised to work out a suitable schedule in which faculty members are to stay in the library
On the European Languages section in the School of Economics Library
Main points: Is it accessible to students?

Response: The available books are accessible to students as long as they are accompanied by a member of the faculty
On the availability of the Basic Social Services offices of the university

On council updates of their activities
Main points: concern raised by Prof. Manarpaac; there is a need for updates on council activi-ties; report back on the progress and it must not be only during elections that student lead-ers are visible

Response: CALSC responded that it regularly publicizes its activities through room-to-room vis-its. It also promised to hold another gathering of the college’s students at the end of the year. USC responded that this year, the profit gained from the UP Fair will go to drinking fountains
On students that have Tourism as minor
Main points: Why do they not allow Tourism minors to undergo OJT during summer?
Directed to: Prof. Manarpaac
Response: It is not included in the present curriculum but it is currently being reviewed and a complete revision may be underway.
Other questions (unanswered)
Why do most EL professors base grades and ratings only on examinations? Other criteria should also be taken into consideration like homework, seatwork, class recitation and attendance.
Why not offer more languages?
Why do we have a limited choice of fields to minor in?
Would it be possible to have higher Russian classes given there would be enough demand?
If I don’t want a career in teaching or in the DFA, as a BA EL student, what other avenues are open to me?
What is the department’s “game plan” to redeem its Center of Excellence title?
Why is not possible to minor in Linguistics?
