The usage of calcium aluminate cement for floor tiles can expand the usage area and
durability of the product because of the high performance specifications

If we have a look at the sulphate resistance performances of the portland
cement(PC) and calcium aluminate cement(CAC), after 30 days of sulphate
exposure the shrinkage behaviours start to differentiate.

Calcium Aluminate Based Floor Tiles
CAC has high acid resistance until 2 pH value.
Unlike Portland cement, CAC does not release lime during hydration. This
property gives good chemical resistance to acid corrosion and to a large
number of aggressive environments.
CAC do not release Calcium Hydroxide as a hydration product when used in
a formulation. Therefore, it shows high resistance in acidic environment.
Some of the usage areas are;
acidic or basic process pools,
livestock floors,
fertilizer plants floors,
hospital and school laboratories,
petroleum and geothermal wells

Here are the critical considerations while using CAC as a binder in floor tiles;
Hot curing process should never be done.
The equipment used must be clean and potable water used.
Water / Ratio must be at most 0.4.
Sand and aggregate gradation should be compatible with cement.
The minimum amount of water should be used.

Calcium Aluminate Based Floor Tiles
Here are the critical considerations while using CAC as a binder in floor tiles;
It may give different reactions than Portland Cement with different type of
additives. It should be used after having trials in the laboratory.
Materials that are placed in the recipe should not be left in direct sunlight. To
avoid temperature increase in the mix, it is advised to use ingredients with
ambient temperature.
For higher temperatures such as 1000 °C or more, calcium aluminate clinker, or
fireclay must be used as an aggregate in the recipe.
