BURRANEER BAY PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER TERM 3 – WEEK 5

A Message from Mrs Moss

125 Year Anniversary Celebrations

Only three weeks to go until we hold our 125 Year Anniversary celebrations. Burraneer Bay Public School is celebrating 125 Years of Public Education. What an enormous milestone! We have been busy planning a range of activities to recognize this very special event.

On Friday September 14, 2018 we are holding our Education Day Celebrations. Everyone is invited to attend. The day will begin with a K-6 Combined Assembly. The students will receive values awards and pennants and our bands, choirs and dance groups will perform. Our classrooms will be open after the assembly so that parents can visit and see the amazing learning experiences in which the students at Burraneer Bay are involved. After recess there will be grade performances involving every student in the school. You are invited to stay and share a picnic lunch with your family.

On Saturday, September 15 we will be holding a 125 Year Anniversary Fair packed full of memorabilia and activities. This will be held in the school grounds from 10am to 2pm. This will be a great day out to celebrate the school’s history. We would really like former students to come and have a look at the school because it has really changed since they would have been here. Please spread the word, so that all of our ex students and their families can join in the celebrations.

The library will be set up with plenty of memorabilia that details the history of the school. Like all good celebrations, there will also be performances by our students, fun activities, rides, stalls and food.

What a fantastic way to mark Burraneer Bay’s 125 Years!

Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival (SSSMF) Congratulations to the students who participated in the dance and choir performances at the Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival (SSSMF) and Dance Extravaganza. All of the parents who have attended have really enjoyed the concerts and the staff have all been very impressed with the students who have represented the school. Ms. Pantelis attended the evenings to “witness our students sing beautifully and dance brilliantly. Mrs Millar was absolutely amazing as the conductor and made me feel so proud to be a part of such a wonderful school.” The SSSMF is in its 38th year. Its growth and the quality of the performances both reflect the dedication and hard work of the staff and community of public schools in the Sutherland Shire.

Sydney Eisteddfod DANCE GALA The Extension Dance Group and the Year 2 Girls Friday Group received an invitation to perform as special guest artists at the Sydney Eisteddfod DANCE GALA on Sunday August 26th 2018 at 2:30pm at the Opera House. What an amazing achievement. Thank you to all the parents who have supported their child’s participation in this prestigious event by purchasing tickets. Thank you to all the staff involved in these events for your dedication and commitment.

BURRANEER BAY PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER TERM 3 – WEEK 5

Hatch and Grow

The ducklings have arrived! It has been a very exciting week for our kindergarten students. They have watched the ducklings hatch and waited eagerly for them to find their feet and waddle around their surroundings. It has been priceless to watch the students (and the teachers ) as they interact with the ducklings.

Our Kindergarten students participate each year in the Hatch and Grow Initiative. This is such a wonderful learning experience for the Kindergarten students. The students watch the ducklings hatch and then are involved in the

ongoing care of the ducklings once they are moved to the grow pods.

Online Payments

We are asking that parents please pay online via the school website for all school payments. POP is safe, easy and secure. Online payments can be easily tracked and you are issued with a receipt number as proof of payment. There are no fees for online payments for parents.

Kindergarten 2019 Enrolments

I have really enjoyed meeting the families of our Kindergarten 2019 students who nominated to participate in a School Tour this week. I felt extremely proud to be part of the Burraneer Bay school community as I walked around and show cased all that we have to offer. Our kindergarten play area received five stars from both the families and the 2019 students. The families were excited to see the students engaged in a range of learning experiences. Our kindergarten students were in the library; Year 1 were doing Gymnastics in the hall and Year 2 were rehearsing for their 125 Years Grade item. Year 4 were learning how to play Volley Ball; Year 5 were participating in Dance Sport and Year 6 were in the Steam Room using the latest technology.

2019 will be here before we know it.

If you have a child / sibling attending Kindergarten in 2019, please ensure you go to the office and ask for an enrolment form. We have received numerous enquiries from parents who are interested in enrolling their child at Burraneer Bay PS in 2019. We have two very special Kindergarten Orientation days planned for early next term on October 30 and November 6 and we would hate to think that the children missed being part of this wonderful experience.

Learning in KT

Mrs Takacs was very excited to return to school this week. She was amazed by how much the students had grown and how much they had learnt. KT have been learning about Living Things and Life Cycles and have enjoyed watching the duck eggs in their classroom hatch and grow.
