Victorian State Schools Spectacular This annual concert, held on September 27th this year, is the showcase of musical, dance and drama talent in

Victorian Government Schools – Primary & Secondary. To quote from the ‘Press Release’;

A cast of 3000 students from over 130 schools will captivate audiences with show-stopping vocals,

high-energy dance routines, electrifying special effects and awe-inspiring circus tricks in a slick and

exciting three hour show.

The Spectacular will feature an 80-piece orchestra, 1500-voice choir, 1400 mass dancers, 23 lead

vocalists, 25 principal dancers, 25 ensemble dancers, 14 backing vocalists, 40 roller skaters and 30

circus performers from the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA).

Victoria’s outstanding young performers will light up the stage for 47 toe-tapping tunes from popular,

rock and classical artists including Lady Gaga, Daft Punk, Katy Perry, Tom Waits and Ella Fitzgerald

This is the third year that a group of Yr 5/6 Essex Heights children will be part of

the massed choir and they attended their first rehearsal on Wednesday

accompanied by Lisa Carne and Anne Scerri. This event adds another

dimension to our outstanding music and performing arts program and

the selected children are looking forward to further rehearsals and

then performing on September 27th.

Tickets are now on sale and I can recommend this as an outstanding

show.

To purchase tickets, simply visit www.ticketek.com.au/spectacular or

phone Ticketek on 132 849.

Guitar Concert On Monday this week we held our Guitar Concert in the Hall. These concerts showcase the skills and talents

of our instrumental students, and these were certainly evident on the night.

The Instrumental Music here at Essex Heights is outstanding and provides such wonderful opportunities for

the children to develop their own talents and an appreciation of music and performing. Thanks to Peter King,

our Guitar Teacher, who made this night possible. Also to Alyssa Kennedy and Lisa Carne for their support of

the program and the evening.

Finally, to the parents who came and provided the audience for the children to perform to, many thanks.

Prep Enrolments 2014 I am very busy at the moment with school tours for prospective families to join us in 2014 and beyond. If you

have children who will be starting Preps at Essex Heights in 2014, please ensure an enrolment form is lodged

at the Office by the end of this Term. This will enable us to begin planning for next year.

Woolworths – “Giving Local Program”

Parents who shop at the Ashwood Woolworths need to look out for the

Essex Heights collection point throughout June.

Each time you pass through a checkout, collect a small green token and

deposit it in one of three collection points for local organisations. At the

end of June, Woolworths will donate between $200-$500 to those

organisations depending on the number of tokens deposited.

An easy fundraiser for us if you are a regular shopper at the Ashwood

supermarket.

See you around the school,

Andrew Crossett

Let’s get ready to raffle!!

Essex Heights Primary School is preparing for a fundraising opportunity in Term 2 and 3 with the Our

School Raffle.

For every $2 ticket sold, $1.50 will come back to our school. Our School Raffle is a partnership between Victorian schools and Scouts Victoria. With decades of

fundraising experience behind them, Scouts Victoria handles all of the administration, the raffle booklets

and 123 statewide prizes, including a fantastic first prize of a Toyota Prius C Hybrid.

We hope your family will try and sell as many raffle tickets as you can – the more tickets you sell, the

closer we get to raise funds for equipment for our children at Essex Heights Primary School.

Tickets will be distributed to the youngest child of each family next week. All money collected, plus ticket

stubs, must be returned to Essex Heights by Friday 2 August 2013, in order for our school to enter the

Early Return Draw. The winning tickets will be drawn at Victorian Scout Centre on 13 September 2013 at

1:30pm. The draw result will be published on the website at www.ourschoolraffle.com.au.

All families that return fully sold books and money go into a draw at our school to win a Logitech Fold-Up

Keyboard for an iPad2.

You can find out more information at www.ourschoolraffle.com.au and follow us on Twitter

@OurSchoolRaffle and on Facebook (Our School Raffle).

Participants needed: FREE study for overweight young people looking for help.

Murdoch Childrens Research Institute at The Royal Children’s Hospital is running a randomised clinical trial of an online weight management program for overweight adolescents. Participation involves completing height, weight, blood pressure and waist circumference measurements and an online questionnaire at baseline, 3, 6 and 12 months. Parents are also invited to participate. Every 3 months there will be a draw for a $100 gift voucher for those participants who have kept their appointments. The results will demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of using the personalised, targeted Staying Fit program for addressing weight-related behaviours during adolescence. Recruitment has commenced and we are looking for 550 overweight young people aged 12- 17 living in metropolitan Melbourne.
