THIS Sunday they will be performing their homecoming concert at the 8:30 and 11:00 AM traditional worship services. ey’ve been having an awesome week touring Boston, D.C., Richmond, New York, and Philadelphia. e students will come with beautiful music and moving testimonies about what God has been doing over the past week. Don’t miss it! 2. Summer Small Groups: Leslie Lewis is ready to form some small groups this summer. While at Annual Conference this week, I got to hear Pastor Jorge Acevedo. He made a pretty bold statement about what it means to be a Methodist. He said, “If you aren’t in a small group, you aren’t a Methodist.” Many believe John Wesley’s greatest contribution to the church was his method of making disciples. A huge part of this were the small groups he called “bands.” is summer is a great time to get a taste of a small group. Contact Leslie at the church office to get in one! 3. NEW SERMON SERIES: I’m really excited about the new sermon series that Drew and I are working on called: Jesus at the Beach. Most of Jesus’ ministry took place in an around the Sea of Galilee. Jesus made his home in the beach side community of Capernaum. We all love the beach, especially, this time of year. Come out starting NEXT SUNDAY as Drew and I talk about JESUS AT THE BEACH. We’ll find out what Jesus did when he went to the beach! (P.S. Willie McDonald is working on a new promo video for this series, be sure to “like” our Facebook page so you can see it when it is released. 4. Annual Conference was held this week. I’m pleased to report that Bishop Leeland appointed Drew and me to serve at FUMC again this year. is is what we expected, but it’s always great to hear it officially. Please pray for our church and denomination. We are about 11 months away from the 2016 General Conference in Portland, OR. Delegates from all over the world will gather to consider legislation that could likely affect our local church both positively and negatively. I’m so grateful to serve this church. I’m excited to be entering my fiſth year of ministry here. It’s going to be a great year! Backpack Ministry Report June 2015

2014-2015 Backpack Ministry End-of-Year Parent Surveys:Results of the Parent Surveys that were returned: Everyone found the backpacks to be very helpful to the child. They enjoyed all the foods but some had their favorites like pop tarts, noodles, snacks, peanut butter. The thing they liked about the backpacks ranged from "all of it" to "it was extremely helpful" to "so glad to have things on the weekends."

We also got wonderful thank-you’s on the parent surveys.• "To First Methodist Church, I would like to thank you! May God continue to bless you guys

at First United Methodist Church!"• " I would like to personally thank all that were involved! Everything was/is greatly appreciated.

From our family to all of yours. Thank you and God Bless you for your kindness!" (Nana)

2014-2015 Backpack Ministry End-of-Year Teacher Surveys:The teacher surveys were so supportive of the ministry. They all felt the backpacks were very helpful to their students and loved the look in the children’s faces when they got their backpack every week. The children are proud of their of backpacks. It has helped the teachers out. The teachers are grateful for the program and glad that their children have food to eat over the weekends especially, knowing that there is very little food in these households.

We would like to give thanks to the teachers at Prattville Primary School and Prattville Elementary School who participated by helping to identify needs and helping to make this valuable resource of weekly food accessible to families. Special thanks goes out to Jennifer Bedwell and Nancy Lambert at Prattville Primary and to Toynette Bivens at Prattville Elementary for their management and support of this ministry at their schools.

To all who have donated to the Backpack Program, our sincerest thanks from all the hungry children you have helped to feed this year. The Backpack Ministry is so grateful for your donations of food and money to help us continue to feed those who are trying so hard to make ends meet. None of this would be possible without your continued love and support. The Backpack Volunteers are an incredible group of people who are so dedicated to this ministry. There is so much that goes into packing, delivering, and picking up backpacks week after week. These wonderful people always want to do more and more and give and give and are always there when you need them.
