Rule of the Week
Welcome back
I hope you enjoyed a welcome break from school and are looking
forward to a terrific term. We’re off to a flying start to term 4,
although the first day back was a bit tricky with daylight saving
changes, some families confused about whether it was a pupil free
day and industrial action by office staff. It will be a busy term so
keep on top of the dates by regularly reading the newsletter and
checking the website calendar.
Gold assemblies
Students and staff have been hard at work all year transitioning to a
revised student encouragement system based on the You Can Do It
five keys for success. It is pleasing to see so many students eligible
for gold certificates.
To assist with planning for parent attendance at these important
assemblies I can advise that proposed dates for term 4 are 26
October, 16 November and 7 December starting at 12 noon.
NAPLAN
School staff have begun the analysis of our latest NAPLAN results. Our
marvellous assistant principals have put together a brief but informative
presentation about 2012 NAPLAN which they will present at the next P & C
meeting and post on the school website. For any questions about individual
student results, please contact Judi Armstrong for Year 3 and Karen
Wardlaw for Year 5.
Nias
Don’t forget that tomorrow we are asking for your support for a community
on Nias Island. For the donation of a gold coin or an item of stationery,
students can wear mufti. With any money collected we will purchase
stationery items or books to send to a school on Nias Island where
relatives of one of our kindy students attends. We hope you can help us to
help them.
P & C
Don’t forget the next P & C meeting is next Monday night 15 October at
7pm and the following Monday 22 October is the uniform review meeting.
This meeting will be held in the staff room after school on Monday 22
October from 3 – 4pm. Interested parents, carers and teachers are invited
to come along to discuss our uniform policy. The meeting will become part
of the annual P & C calendar. If you cannot attend the meeting in person,
please email your opinions to the P & C secretary at
Rule of the Week
This week’s rules are about canteen expectations. Teachers and students practised and talked about the following expectations that relate to our school’s four values of Care, Courtesy, Cooperation and
Commonsense.
The reason for these rules is to ensure that the canteen runs
smoothly and everyone can be served.
Hope you have a great week at our great school.
Trish Peters, Principal.

PSSA GIRLS’ SOCCER
On Tuesday, the K.P.S. girls’ soccer team headed off to
Gosford Leagues Club oval to play Kempsey East. All of the
team played fantastically leading us to a victory of 2-1. We had
a great day playing against a friendly team. Next week we will
be going to Newcastle for the state finals with our heads high
in the hope of playing just as well as or better than we already
have!!!!
Good luck to the wonderful girls’ soccer team who have just
made the state finals. Coach Ennis, the team, parents and
spectators are travelling by bus to Newcastle on Monday to
play against the top 3 teams from around the state in the hope
of becoming state champions.

Class Item - 1T
In 1T we have been learning about different types of energy
like electrical, thermal, mechanical and solar. Our favourite is
chemical energy because it gets us up and going. Milla, Taylah, Ella, Ashton
Batteries are a type of electrical energy. You need to charge
batteries when they have been used and that’s called potential
energy. A Leapster and a torch use batteries. Lucas, Rory
There is solar energy and thermal energy. Solar energy is
power from the sun and thermal energy is power from fire.
Nuclear energy comes from a nuclear power plant. Ben
Mechanical energy is used for planes and mouse traps. It helps
you travel around the world, trap mice and rats and watch TV.
Chemical energy comes from food. Gabriella
Energy is the power to be strong and active and to be able to
do work. Potential energy is stored energy and kinetic energy
means moving energy. Energy is gathered by sleeping. Jesinta, Kate, Ashlee
Stored energy is food, drink or fruit. Moving energy is soccer,
swimming or football. Analisse
Energy is the power to be strong and active. Potential energy
is stored energy and kinetic energy is moving energy. Our
favourite is kinetic energy because we like to dance.
Chelsea, Sasha, Kasey
Thermal energy is fire energy and these are the things where
thermal energy comes from: a candle, a bush fire and a bbq.
Jaida Kinetic energy means to use your stored energy. Potential
energy is stored energy. I use kinetic energy most of the day
by running around at lunch and recess. Emelyn
Potential energy is stored energy and kinetic energy is moving
energy. I learnt that there are more than three types of
energy for example people, electric and fuel. There is also
more than one way to use nuclear energy because I thought
that you could only use it for making bombs but it can make
electricity for a city. Gary
Batteries make things work. They make the Wii remotes work
when you play it. Thomas
Fuel is used for cars, trains and rockets. Cars can use
different sorts of fuel like diesel and rally fuel. Zane and Connor
The lights can turn off and on. Electrical energy keeps things
working every day. I like thermal energy because it makes
things hot. Hunter
Potential energy is stored energy. Kinetic energy is moving
energy. Nuclear energy is our favourite energy because it can
run a whole city. Dylan, Jaxon, Ethan
