ØYSTEIN BAADSVIK RECITALOctober 24, 2016 | 7:30 p.m. Wise Auditorium

Øystein Baadsvik is the only tuba player to have carved out a career exclusively as a soloist, rather than becoming a member of an orchestra or accepting a teaching post. His multi-faceted musical career as a soloist, chamber musician and recording artist has taken him all over the world. The unique virtuosity and musicality Baadsvik brings to the tuba has established him as an exemplar of the instrument. Free admission.

FALL CHORAL CONCERTOctober 27, 2016 | 7:30 p.m.Wise Auditorium

TJC Concert Choir and Chamber Singers’ fall concert includes a program of literature from the Renaissance to the present. The Concert Choir, a mixed choir, will perform a variety of literature from multiple time periods and genres, while the Chamber Singers, a small auditioned ensemble, will present literature from earlier periods of music, including madrigals from the Renaissance. Free admission.

HARMONY & UNDERSTANDING POPS CONCERT

TJC’s song-and-dance troupe Harmony & Understanding, directed by Prof. Andrea Trent, will entertain audiences with their annual Pops Concert, “Old Time Rock ’n’ Roll,” assisted by TJC’s Jazz Ensemble II under the direction of Dr. Steven Meier. It’s a show that’s sure to please all ages. Free admission.

Enjoy an action-packed evening of the finest jazz in East Texas, as the TJC Jazz Ensembles, under the direction of Heather Mensch and Dr. Steven Meier, join forces with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra to host world-renowned trumpeter Allen Vizzutti. Vizzutti has performed with Chick Corea, Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band, The Airmen of Note and Army Blues, Chuck Mangione and Woody Herman. He has also recorded with Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, the Commodores, and on various video-game soundtracks such as Medal of Honor and Halo.

Through a wonderful collaboration, the TJC and UT Tyler choirs combine to perform a concert showcasing the quality of each program, as well as a major choral work, in the beautiful First Presbyterian Church sanctuary.
