get to know you. Please take a moment to fill out a welcome card and place it in either the collection bag
or the office mailbox. If you are a guest, please do not feel obligated to give during the offering; today

Joining the Church... After attending our services on a regular basis, we hope you are led to a deeper
relationship with this community—one that involves sharing in our covenant with God. Are you willing to
make that commitment? A decision to join any community of faith requires prayer, experience, and
discernment. We welcome everyone who is thinking about joining the church to meet with one of our
pastors in order to pray about and to explore this desire.

After a lengthy battle with cancer, early Wednesday
morning our sister Alice Laarman was called home
by the Father. She was 60 years old. A memorial
service will be held in our church on Tues. Dec. 6 at
7:00 P.M. We extend our prayers and condolences to
her family, and also to her close friends who were
family for Alice. We think particularly of Irene Kraay,
a dear friend of Alice, who so lovingly cared for Alice
these last months. Condolences for the family may
be sent to Alice‟s mother, Hermanna Laarman at #22
- 110 Caverly Road, Aylmer, ON, N5H 2P4.
Rick Spier, father of Coralee and Michael Lewis-
Spier, went to be with the Lord Wednesday
afternoon surrounded by his children and
grandchildren. Funeral will be held on Tuesday Dec 6
at 11 AM at Haney Presbyterian Church, 11858 -
216th street, Maple Ridge. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Bibles for Missions
Thrift Store at Maple Ridge. Please keep his wife Lois
and family in your prayers.
We pray for Frijke Lucas as she continues to make a
slow recovery from her recent bypass surgery.
We extend our condolences to Valarie and Clarence
Vandervelden as Valarie‟s sister passed away this
past Sunday. May the Lord surround you with
comfort and peace.
Pray for Rev. Henry and Aileen Numan. Aileen has
grown very weak as her body succumbs to cancer.

What’s happening
TODAY
Music in the Pews/Christmas Carols: will be held today, Dec 4 at 7 PM in the Sanctuary.
The Honduran team will also share their experience
in the service.
Sanctuary Décor: The prophet Micah likes to
employ the mountain metaphor in his short book.
Because of Israel‟s idolatry, Jerusalem, situated on
the mountain of the Lord, will become a mound of
rubble. But planted throughout Micah‟s
announcement of pending judgment are seeds of
hope. Through the judgment will come deliverance
and new beginning for God‟s people. New life will
break through the rubble. Moreover, the mountain
of the Lord will one day be established. What Micah
could only see in part, we see more clearly. As
Christ came unto the world the mountain of the
Lord was established, but not yet fully. The smaller
mountain depicts Christ‟s first coming. In Matt.
28:16, it was on a mountain that Jesus said all
authority on heaven and earth was His. But when
Christ returns (depicted by the larger mountain)
then all people, from all nations will know Christ as
King and Judge. Advent deepens our longing for
the mountain of the Lord to be fully and completely
established in our world.
What’s happening

The Persecuted Church:
Vietnam: Vietnam is known as a
communist country. Officially, freedom of religion
exists, however, churches must be registered with
the government. Recently, a gang burst into the
home of Pastor Ngunyen‟s during a prayer
gathering. All present were threatened with death if
they did not stop the prayer meetings. The pastor
and those present would not agree to stop their
prayer meetings and as a result were severely
beaten.
Nigeria: Many people are still in shock over the
mass killing in early November. The situation is
very dangerous for Christians.
Eritrea: 3 Christians died in a military camp. They
were put in a dungeon cell and tortured physically
for 2 years without medical care. They refused to
recant their faith.
India: Local police detained and beat new converts
from Islam after the video of their baptism was
posted on YouTube.
Egypt: The election results haven‟t come out yet.
There are rumours that the voting process was
corrupted by many who „guided‟ those who didn‟t
understand the procedure to vote.
China: There is training going on for pastors of
underground churches. This is wonderful news as
many have not received proper training .The need
for well-trained pastors is great.
New Guinea: Someone from a tribe in New Guinea
found a Bible in their native language and read it.
He became a Christian and passed the Bible around
for others to read. Soon the whole tribe converted
to Christianity. There were filled by the Spirit and
baptized, without missionaries or pastors. Praise
God. Have a blessed week. -Willy Van Delft
Education
“SCIENCE and WORLDVIEW”, Geneva
Society Public Lecture by Arnold
Sikkema: will be held on Dec 6 at 7:30 PM at
Trinity Western University, Langley in Northwest
Auditorium. The Lecture will cover: Early modern
science, beginning with the physics and astronomy
of Copernicus, Kepler, and Galileo, led quickly to
the Newtonian mechanical worldview and
contributed to cultural shifts from superstition and/
or Christian theism through deism to the bald
“scientific atheism” of our day. No one is immune
from the concomitant effects on our understanding
of our place in the universe, and of God‟s
relationship with us and with the cosmos. What
difference did the advances in science — from its
early modern origins up to the present — make to
the general perception of the world; and taking this
into account, what habits of mind can allow the
scientific endeavour to properly contribute to
forming our Christian worldview?
RAYE POINTS
P R
He will lead you through unfamiliar territory. He will turn the darkness into light before you and make the rough places smooth.
These things I will do, says the Lord; I will not forsake you.
Once again, I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you,
who directs you in the way you should go. You are not alone,
you are engraved in the palm of My hand!

THANK YOU from JOHN KNOX! We would like to extend a
huge thanks to our extended
community at New West CRC for your
overwhelming support at Winterfest. We were so
blessed to see so many alumni, grandparents, and
friends of John Knox enjoying the festivities! Thank
you for all your help as well: making soup or
oliebollen, donating handmade craft items or
other baked goods, helping out in the kitchen...
your support is incredible and we are grateful to
you. Though the main purpose of the event has
changed from being a fundraiser to a community
building event, we are pleased to report that we raised
approximately $7,000 for the school! Part of this
money will be used to equip our kitchen, which we
hope will also be a benefit to the church. Thanks for
attending Winterfest—see you next time!
