Happy New Year!

WINTER WEATHER…

Our new snow removal company is contracted to come out to plow and

shovel sidewalks at 2inches of snow depth. Keep in mind that they are

working hard to clear hospital parking lots and other emergency areas

throughout the city but will get to Eaglepointe as quickly as possible. Also,

it wouldn’t be a bad idea to put some ice melt/sand or salt down on your

walkway until they get there to avoid any slip and falls.

Freezing pipes can always be an issue in Colorado so watch those

temperatures and consider leaving a drip at the faucets.

Our current trash removal contract with Bestway will end on February

28th. This will be the last day they pick up Eaglepointe, so please put your

trash bin out so they can collect them all on that day. I will send an update

as to when you can expect Waste Management to deliver your new trash

& recycle bins.

There are at least 62 million cases of the common cold every year, but you can avoid it. Here are three surefire ways to stay healthy this cold and flu season:

PRIORITIZE SLEEP – You need 8 to 7 hours each night year-round, but it’s particularly important right now because your body needs the time to rejuvenate to fight off any bugs. The more sleep you get, the less likely you are to catch a cold.

AVOID SHARING – You’re not in kindergarten anymore so refusing to share items like your lip balm or toothbrush won’t get you into trouble. So don’t feel bad about saying, “no thanks!” to sharing plates of food, drinks, eating utensils and even office equipment to avoid germs this time of year.

BEWARE OF HIDDEN GERM SPOTS – You probably already know the importance of washing your hands but you may not know that you need to spend extra time washing the areas where germs hide: the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. Surfaces on and around your thumb and index finger are the most critical areas to scrub.

Hugs, kisses, and special little rituals with your kids help them have higher self-esteem, few behavioral problems and greater academic achievement. So just remember a casual hug has more meaning than you might think.

how to banish the sniffles

refresh your spaceCleaning your home doesn’t have to be a time-consuming process. Give your roost a boost with these time-saving strategies.

BUST THE DUSTGive each room a once-over with the vacuum, then target underneath furniture and rugs. Furniture sliders make moving heavy pieces a snap. Tackle couch and chair cushions with the upholstery brush attachment, then suck up dirt inside and around the frames, switching to the crevice tool to reach tight spots.

SANITIZE SURFACESSpray kitchen counters, sink, and fixtures with an all-purpose disinfectant. For a greener option, use a one-to-four-part mixture of distilled white vinegar and water. Run an eco-friendly wipe over other potentially germ-laden spots, including cabinet pulls, doorknobs, light switches and inside trashcans.

HIT THE GROUNDThe traditional mop-and-bucket method simply spreads dirty water around the floor. Opt instead for a device with a removable, washable pad dampened with water and, if desired, the right cleaner for your floor. Start mopping on the side of the room opposite the door and make your way toward the exit, rinsing and respritzing the pad as needed.

PEN PALSVirtual workout buddies can motivate you to move. In fact, Pacer (Android and iOS, free) users with multiple companions take 30% more steps per day and are 50% less likely to give up on goals compared to those without teammates.

PUMP UP THE COMPETITIONMany apps have monthly contests, with goals like charting 2.5 hours of exercise a week or cutting out sweets. Lose It! (Android and iOS, free $40 a year for premium service) offers hundreds of these challenges and found that those who sign up for one shed twice as many pounds as those who skip them.

KEEP TRACK OF YOUR MEALS Writing down your food picks helps you weed out bad choices. Perhaps that’s why MyFitnessPal (Android and iOS, free) members who log meals via the “Recipe Tool” (which imports nutrition facts from online recipes) lose 40% more weight than those who don’t. On days that dishes aren’t recorded, users are six times more likely to exceed desired calorie counts.

4 tips for a financial new years resolutionGET REACQUAINTED WITH YOUR FINANCES The first step toward financial improvement is to get the lay of the land. That means checking the status of all your financial accounts, taking stock of your assets and debts, and evaluating your monthly cash flow. This will enable you to identify particular areas that warrant improvement as well as evaluate if upgrading an account would be beneficial.

MAKE A BUDGETThe best way to make a budget is to gather together all of your bills from the past few months and then make a list of your recurring expenses in order of importance – with true necessities like housing, food and healthcare obviously taking precedence. You can then compare the cost of these expenses against your monthly take-home and eliminate any outlays that would outpace your spending power. After that, just make sure to compare your ensuing monthly spending to your planned budget to make sure you’re abiding by it.

AUTOMATE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE One of the most easily avoidable mistakes that people make in regards to their finances is missing due dates. Often due to pure forgetfulness, tardiness can have serious ramifications on your financial life – such as missed credit card payments fostering credit score damage. Luckily, avoiding such a negative event is as simple as setting up recurring monthly payments from a checking account. You can do so for your full balance, the minimum amount required or a customized amount, and this applies to a variety of different types of bills – from credit cards to cable.

BUILD AN EMERGENCY FUND Roughly 56% of Americans do not have a rainy day fund, according to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s National Financial Capability Study. Like someone without insurance, folks who lack an emergency fund are merely tempting fate and putting themselves at risk of financial catastrophe in the event of prolonged job loss or significant emergency expenses. Building up some monetary reserves should therefore be one of the first orders of business for any financial makeover.
